Chris Chambers released

Adam Schefter just reported that the Chargers have cut Chris Chambers. He has to clear waivers, but is it possible Miami would put in a claim for him? I know he's not terrific, but maybe a homecoming to Miami would get him going, and it wouldn't hurt Miami to give him a shot if he doesn't cost a lot.

It's clear Miami needs something at WR to help out a little bit, and if Miami is trying to stay in the race this season, why not make a minor move like this and then address it more aggressively in the offseason?

we had him once, we dont need another WR who can’t catch.

But at least he can't catch "better" than the rest of our rabble.

I’m not seeing anything to lose by signing him.

I agree

He’s not worse than what we have, and he might be re-energized by coming back to Miami. He drops some passes, sure, but he can also make plays here and there. I think it’s worth looking into. I’d like to have him back for the right price.

he only catches better than Ginn

I don’t want him. Had him once, and for him to just be cut outright by the Chargers tells me he just doesn’t have it.

He's not a superstar

That’s for sure, and who knows why the Chargers are moving on without him. They have Jackson, they like Floyd, and they have Gates that gets a ton of throws too. Maybe Chambers just doesn’t fit in anymore.

He’s not going to be a #1 big time WR, but he can still help a team, especially a team like Miami that is getting nothing at WR right now. I think he would help Henne too, by having a veteran that can run good routes. Even if he’s not the player he used to be, and even if he was never a superstar to begin with, I think he still has some game and could help the Fins on offense.

We would lose the remaining 4 million on his contract

Chambers has only 9 catches for 122 yards this year…with a very good QB. I really can’t see him make a difference….

Veteran player who can mentor our young receivers. Just as long as he isn’t asking for too much money, I say we bag him.

only if he can still run a 4.4

he was originally a 4.3 guy, but even if he has slowed down a bit he could still be a deep threat. But that is ALL he could be good for. Otherwise, NO.

That would mean we traded both Chambers and Taylor for second round picks and then signed them back for car fare. I like this system!

Chambers can not be relied on to catch the ball.

if he can’t get open deep, he has no value. Cammy, Hartline and Bess are more reliable.

True, but they are all young receivers

I think Camarillo is the only receiver we have with more than three years experience, and it seemed like he got his hands together a bit more while in Southern California. I guess I am just not as opposed to this idea as you are, which is fine.

Plus if Chambers disappoints, we can toss his ass aside and look for a monster WR in the offseason

I would be remiss if I didn’t admit that Chambers was my favorite player when he was in Miami. He sucked at times, but he also put on a hell of a show at times.

It will be interesting to see if the Dolphins go shopping this offseason.

It will be interesting who we aquire this off season. But a WR will be #1 in our FA targeting. I think Vincent jackson is going to be hard to get because I am sure now that Chris has been cut they will allocate all the money they would have paid him to keep Vincent Jackson. I think in all honesty we have a better chance of getting Miles Austin. The simple fact that he was originally drafted by the Big Tuna means something. And he is an UFA this coming year. The Cowboys are paying some big checks on offense already bewteen Marion Barber, Felix Jones, Patrick Crayton, Roy Williams, Tony Romo and Jason witten. Thats a lot of money. And on offense other than our line the only person that is due for a huge paycheck is Ronnie. So I figure we have a great chance of getting Miles plus he would love a chance to be the #1 and be part of a dynasty that could boast a possible dynamic offense.

More that practically any player I can think of in recent memory

Chris Chambers frustrated me as a Dolphins fan. He was maddeningly inconsistent!

I suppose if he still has his speed, he would be better than Ginn as a deep threat. But he is not someone I would want to throw to on 3rd down.

The team that claims him only pays half of his contract, the remaining portion for this season. I don’t know what his contract is worth, but at least the Fins wouldn’t have to pay the whole thing.

Because SD's WR are way better than Miami's

Not saying he’s going to turn into a Pro Bowler in Miami, but SD has a ton of offensive weapons, so it’s not that big of a surprise that Chambers doesn’t stand out down there. Again, we all know Chambers isn’t a superstar, but I bet he could make a difference with the Fins. I want Miami to compete this year as well as build for the future. Adding Chambers could be a low-risk way to improve this season without risking future draft picks or big chunks of money. They could cut him after this season. Maybe he helps the offense become a little more dynamic, and suddenly the Fins can make a run at the playoffs afterall. As it is right now, the WRs we have are not going to take this team to the playoffs, not this season.

According to Norv Turner

They released him because they are liking Floyd more every week as he is emerging (and obviously younger than Chambers). Plus they lost a linebacker on Sunday, so they need to make room on the roster to replace that player.

If the price is right why not

he might be our best shot at a #1 for this season only. Sign him to a low 1 year deal. It will generate excitment if anything and we have Chambers, Hartline and Ginn and Cam as exchangable slots. Keep Ginn for ST and for trick plays because we need to utilize him better

WE NEEED HIM

Def need 2 sign him, Im going to cry if we don’t, not really but i would be disappointed. I love what Chambers would bring to this Dolphins offense, We haven’t had any receivers since then, and I know he isn’t randy moss level but he would bring alot of experience and make Henne look like peyton manning. Alot of ppl talk about how he drops alot of balls but look at Braylon Edwards he led the league in dropped passes or close to it and now the jets have someone that makes plays in the air. Thats what Chambers would bring to us.

Miami needs to pass on Chambers

Chambers has 9 receptions this year for 122 yards. That is less than Brian Hartline catches and yards. Chambers is a decent player, but not a game changer. The Fish will have to pick up according to ESPN the rest of his 4 million dollar contract too. Not money well spent.
Two other points, the Charges would not release him if he was a good player. He is also on the downside of his career to boot….. the Chris Chambers I remember was a guy that could make the spectacular catch, but drop the easy passes. Pass on Ginn…
We have Patrick Turner waiting to get playing time..

I don't know. I like Chris Chambers

Chris Chambers definately has his pluses and minuses. However, I think he would give us an upgrade at receiver. He can be a number 1 receiver. The drop ball thing is a problem but I like to look at stats
If you look at Yds/catch and Yds after catch, I think it would be a benefit to have him on the team. Look sign him up for the rest of the year. Look how J.T. is doing! Everyone said he was washed up too when the Redskins released him. I don’t think he is doing such a bad job.

OK Lets look at STATS Name Y/C YAC
CC 13.4/2.4
DB 6.9/3.5
GC 9.5/2.2
TG 11.7/0.9
BH 15.7/8.4

Therefore other than Hartline, I think Chambers is an upgrade. Now if you think B.H. can be a number 1 receiver, well then you shouldn’t go for Chambers. But if not, I still think this would be an improvement over the group we have now!!!
