Post-Game Celebration Thread: Dolphins win in Carolina

It got a little tight in that fourth quarter, but the Dolphins made a couple of big plays and they are now back at .500 following a 24-17 win.

I'm writing up my full recap (might not be as long as usual due to the time) as we speak. Use this thread to discuss your thoughts on the game in the meantime.

great game.

i was honestly kinda worried without ronnie being in the game, but ricky stepped in and played GREAT. defense did great, o-line did awesome, henne played consistant and smart and now miami has a week and a half off to relax and cure some injuries that happened today.

thats been the dolphins all season

the end of every game, except buffalo, has been down to the wire. Against the great teams the Phins have lost, against the bad teams the Phins have won. the truth is, were still one, maybe two, seasons from winning all of those close ones. We havent proven ourselves amongst the greats but clearly were not a team to be overlooked

Going for it instead of kicking the Field Goal. What do you think was the reasoning?

Danger of miss (other team has good field position)
Block and return for touchdown
Possibility of Lex making the 3 yards?
Show that you trust the Defense, unlike Belicheck?

didn't want to take a chance fucking up the kick

and he knew that they had no TO’s and little time to go a long way, meaning no run game. Basically, he said he believed Carolina’s special teams and a freaky play scared him more than Delhomme.

by Little Nicky 21 on Nov 20, 2009 12:03 AM EST up reply actions

interestingly enough i think it it shows he trusted the D

becuase the sure thing would be a 3 point conversion and let the D handle it on the 30 maybe but instead you got passing game where the trust fell on the corners and the front men to push delhomme to make a mistake

Yeahhhh buddy!

How bout it? We win!! To all that were concerned with Ricky now being the shot caller instead of Ronnie, worry no longer. Another note, Bess, you are the MAN! I’ve always enjoyed watching him play. Great game Bess. Okay, so, lemme jump to defense. Our secondary deserves some respect. They didn’t give up HUGE plays, only one passing touchdown. The only complaint I have on defense is the fourth quarter “curse” we seem to have. We start loosining up and give the opposing team room for a comeback. Tighten up, D! One more thing, Porter, I have a question: can you perform like this every game? Kthx. Haha, night y’all, and GO DOLPHINS!

one thing worries me about ronnie

he just isn’t pumped about playing. its like he’s just doing what he’s paid to do out there. hope he isn’t lacking motivation to play by seasons end. he has NEVER had to carry the load full time since he returned, and the reason he bailed on us the first time was b/c of the pressure, along with the wear and tear….

by JeffT on Nov 19, 2009 11:46 PM EST reply actions

I don't think he'd do that to Parcells

It sounds like the two have a pretty strong relationship. Parcells would probably have Ricky killed if he reenacted his 2004 training camp.

Hahaha

There was this hobby shop I used to go to when I was a kid…some 80 year old woman missed the plaza entrance, jumped the ditch, careened across the parking lot and drove into the front of the store. Then — get this — backed up in a 180, hit a car, and went to go get her hair done first because she was late for her hair appointment.

After hearing Coach's interview

I understand why we didnt go for 3. Taking a chance on screwing up the kick would be a bad idea, especially when our O-Line was all banged up. I agree with the call, but would love for our defense to play more agressive in the 4th Qtr.

Game

Was watchin all of it at B-dubs. Bess REALLY came through tonight. I know Ricky deserves most of the credit, but Bess made a ton of really awesome conversions. I think Henne and him just started to connect after that final drive last week.

Defense did some sick work in the opening quarters, but they really need to stop choking in the 4th. I was getting nervous and was about ready to throw something if Delhomme converted there.

Turf sucked really bad, it looked like. I saw 5-6 instances in which it looked like someone was getting hurt, plus the whoopsie trip by DC$ at the beginning of the game.

As for the Buffalo game, I was gonna go, but money’s kicking my ass, and a 5 hour road trip in short notice wouldn’t work. We’ve got Cinci and I think Pittsburgh for away games next season, so I’ll definitely be making those.

Keep it going, phins! 10 days of break time till we kill the Bills and start making our big move.

by Naki on Nov 20, 2009 12:04 AM EST reply actions

What a game!

Fins finally reach .500. Henne is 5-2 and we’re 1-0 without Ronnie Brown!

Laces out!

I think he’ll be fine. Ferg is a different story. His injury looks serious.

A Chance

It’s hard to believe that this team has a chance at the playoffs, but they do. Let’s speculate, Jets beat Pats this weekend and then the Phins beat the Pats and the Bills and then face the pats? That would be amazing…..let’s hope that Henne keeps getting better – Williams will be good enough, and I think the RB situation will be good enough (big question mark without Ronnie – is Lexie a good enough backup RB?), but this team will be as good as the QB WR combo can become. There were no big plays tonight outside of Williams, but maybe they can do something. We’ll see????

I'd rather the jets beat the pats, cause we beat the jets both times...

that would be more beneficial to us right?

Jets beat pats, then pats lose to Saints?

by afmo on Nov 20, 2009 12:42 AM EST up reply actions

the way I see it

Even if NE does beat the Jest, and loses to NO, we still get ahead in the division off a 5-1 record (assuming we beat Buffalo, which we should)

by Naki on Nov 20, 2009 12:43 AM EST up reply actions

Great win on the road....

Great win on a short week where we lose Ronnie and have to change our offensive strategy. Henne was excellent today for a young QB. Bess, Williams, excellent!
I thought the play calling was very good as was the coaching all around.
Hats off to the O-line that kept on fighting!

With 10 days until our next game, we need to heal up, and take a look at our run defense…oh boy…but for a couple days, we can celebrate!

Great win. Glad the coaches listened

Im Pretty sure they didnt but i did say keep the Wildcat at a minimum(they did) and Run traditional style football(they did).

I also would like to note that Lex Hilliard did a fair enough job and passed to get more carries for next weeks game for Ricky if he needs the rest. (sure didnt look like it)

Great win tho and what a great time to have off with all those injuries. Jeez I know the O-line will be fine but Jason Fergesun i hope hes ok.

Obvious game ball to THE O-LINE AND LUSAKA POLITE
