Sparano: Brown is out, Porter is in

Tony Sparano just finished meeting with the media in South Florida and here is what we know. He has confirmed that Ronnie Brown will not play on Thursday night. This should come as no surprise to anyone. Brown will go see a foot specialist before they know anything more about how long he might be out for. Let's hope for the best for Brown.

Meanwhile, Sparano basically called by Chris Mortensen a liar. He didn't use those words, but he did say that Joey Porter will play on Thursday. Asked if Porter will be the starter on Thursday, Sparano said he "thinks he will."

So much for Mortensen's report that claimed Porter wouldn't play on Thursday. The Dolphins are expected to use a rotation at outside linebacker, however - which is probably a good idea considering how effective both Charlie Anderson and Cameron Wake were last week against Tampa Bay.

Would have rather seen that headline read the other way around...

But oh well. I still think this game can be a win for us. Got to keep up with the Pats. They’re going to demolish the Jets next week. Lost to them in week 2 + smack talk + in New England + Pats ticked off about loss + Coach knocked in the media = A very, very angry Patriots team.

by SDefee on Nov 17, 2009 3:14 PM EST reply actions

Me too, but...

I think Porter might surprise us Thursday. When a player knows that they’re having a very sub-par season and is on the verge of the doghouse, it lights a fire underneath their a$$. Look at Ginn! He was benched and lost his starting spot for one game, but came back the next week with the 2 kickoff return TDs. Who knows…maybe Sparano is using a similar mental tactic on Porter.

by JayGatorPhin on Nov 17, 2009 3:31 PM EST up reply actions

Regrettably

…Ginn returned to being normal Ginn immediately after that breakout week.

I like Ginn, but I do not understand him at all.

by Jevant on Nov 17, 2009 5:16 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I don't either.

He COULD have another good week though as kickoff returner. Carolina is dead last in kickoff return yards allowed!

too funny

Maybe being benched last week will put this season in prospective for him and he’ll up his game.

What's Sparano thinking?

“Wake and Anderson had great sucess in tandem on Sunday- So let’s limit their playtime for a loudmouth who hasn’t contributed this season.” I question you Sparano (but only in my head).

Maybe its Joey's last chance...prelude to New England

It would be nice to get his talent in gear, but if it more of the same, sit him and let Wake/Anderson develop and give Quentin Moses a shot over Roth

Porter needs to sit.

Wake needs to start. How is this not obvious to the coaching staff? Wake always performs when he’s on the field and Porter hasn’t performed yet.

Favorite teams in order
1. Miami Dolphins
2. Any team that is playing the Patriots
3. Any team that is playing the Jets

too bad they both can’t lose. I will probably watch the game and secretly hope for that …..

Here's an oddity if I ever saw one.

According to the ESPN power rankings, the Patriots move up a spot from 6 to 5 after a loss, and we move down a spot, from 17 to 18 after a win. Gotta love it.

But what about Kory Sperry? Are we going to see him more?

And this is why I didn't jump to any conclusions based on yesterday's

post about Porter maybe being out.

Now we know and as expected – Coach did not defend joey in the media and then bash him in the locker room. He’s not that type of coach and in that I agree with Matty.

It sounds like this was all a one week thing and now it is done. I also think that it is accurate to say that JP will be part of a rotation, sharing his snaps with Wake and Anderson and JT.

You can thank the Panthers for your Wildcat

Charles Davis at NFLN shows how it was Dan Henning in CAROLINA that introduced the Wildcat to the modern day NFL…

http://www.nfl.com/videos/carolina-panthers/09000d5d8144939e/Brown-out

And he did it with who other than??? DeAngelo Williams whom you will become very familiar with on Thursday. And like Davis points out your Wildcat is nothing much more than a power run formation, something the Panthers are VERY familiar with. This game might very well come down to who can pound it harder.

Good point. But how much will you guys throw?

Because if we are running well, or take a lead, then we very well might only throw about 15 times.

Depends on the score and the running game cuz we basically will do the same.
We have a better QB, in my opinion, that can make accurate throws BUT, you have the receiver threat that we desperately need

Not to hound on Delhomme cause he can drop bombs on us but, on that token our receivers CAN, and i want to emphasize CAN, make plays i.e. Ginn Monday night vs Jets

Actually it was our QB coach David Lee

He is the designer of the Wildcat offense that he ran while coaching at Arkansas. What Carolina ran is not the same thing.

Let's look at the inner picture too... so why does a guy that gets millions to do his job...

… let’s see,… lift weights, run, push, smack, get to the qb, and tackle…

… has been doing it for a long time, is good at what he does, is a leader, AND pumps up his team mates at game time……………………………………… need to be motivated.

I believe his arrogance is what needs to be checked… that’s why he went to the basketball game.

Any of us have a job we would not have been fired or at least dressed down for doing what he did? (not be where we were directed to be) Oh, so he didn’t play one game. Hmmm, let us do wrong and be told not to work for one day… yeah, that’s punishment… and got paid for it still.

Sparano's Formula has been working(for at least a game)

Whenever he puts fire in a players ass they seem to respond very well the next game.

Tedd Ginn demoted then 2TD’s

Gebril Wilson demoted then plays excellent game as well

So i like it, and i think hes really really motivated. The guy needs to do something before the end of the season because if he doesnt he wont be able to play anywhere even if he still wants to leave or whatever. Not even the Browns well maybe the Browns but you know what i mean.

by soxoff on Nov 17, 2009 11:11 PM EST reply actions

... but why doesn't it last?

Seems it’s good for one game, then…. they disappear again.

And why does a professional, who gets millions, does a non-brain surgery job, in a popular – fan based job, need motivation?

Did Ronnie Lott ever need that? How about Howie Long? Or Dan Marino?

These guys, Ginn, Wilson, Porter, are showing weak shit…

Anyone want to start talking about the biggest issues on the Carolina Team?
1.They have Julius Peppers with a hand injury who is coming on only for pass rush
2.Johnathan Stewart might be out so it’ll be Williams vs Williams hehe
3.Steve Smith is a good receiver but Davis was able to blanket Moss, so I can see him possibly shutting him down for the most part.
4.They really don’t have a lethal TE and there’s is injured
5. How good is their O-line?

Do our recievers exist? Ginn crawls out the hole, Bess is stumbling but hope is not lost.

My take on the whole Porter bit.....

I think Mort might have got it right about Porter not playing Thursday. But once Sparano saw mister blabber mouth running his mouth about it, he changed his mind and is going to play Porter. Just to spite Mort and make him look like a fool. I wouldn’t be suprised if Parcells was behind this as well. Probably as a lesson to Mort to keep his mouth shut.
As for Brown being out, I am disappointed about that, but I’m also excited to finally see Hilliard and Sheets hopefully get some touches. Even after Cobbs went down neither has gotten a single carry! What gives?
