Chris Mortensen reports Joey Porter won't play on Thursday
This is a bit surprising, but it comes from ESPN's Chris Mortensen - who has a great reputation and has a pipeline to the Dolphins through his relationship with Bill Parcells. Mortensen reported on Monday Night Countdown that Dolphins LB Joey Porter will not play on Thursday against the Panthers. Mort added that Porter might not play "anytime soon."
If this is indeed the case, you have to wonder what exactly is going on - or what occurred - between Porter and the coaching staff. Yes, Charlie Anderson and Cameron Wake played very well on Sunday against the Buccaneers when replacing Porter. But shouldn't Joey at least be part of the rotation?
Or perhaps the Dolphins approached Joey and told him he would be part of a rotation and Porter refused to accept that role. At this point, it's anyone's guess.
But what I do know is that I'm beginning to think that benching Porter isn't necessarily a downgrade in terms of production. Then again, it was just one game against the Bucs. After all, maybe Joey also would have had a good game if he had played.
It should be interesting to see how this unfolds between now and Thursday.

Porter hasn’t been performing well but is a hell of a leader on the field.
That aspect of him will be missed
I agree question is “what the hell is going on?”
But a statement just as good is, as long as Anderson, Wake, and JT get consistant pass rush, then as is well for the team.

This FO and specially this Head Coach pride themselves
on being straight shooters and like you have always said, being “no nonsense” guys. So I expect from them nothing them than a clear and honest explanation of what is going on with Porter. They will loose a lot of credibility if they don’t do that, there is nothing more pathetic than a fake “tough” guy.

PFT.com
is reporting via glazer(i think) that JP told the staff he wasn’t feelign well and they allowed him to go home to get better… and then they found out he didn’t go home…. don’t think that is the kind of thing that goes over well with these guys, let alone right after a game where you O for it.

Anderson and Wake showed explosive strength on Sunday
When players get older they might not lose speed but the lose their explosive strength and quickness. Great pass rushers have an explosive 1st step. Both Anderson and Wake showed that on Sunday on just about every play. JP (and to a lesser extent, JT) hasn’t shown any of that this year.

Well its time to move on
Joey Porter’s unsettling departure does kinda suck because u know he can pull through, all he needs is a spark and he could dominate a game. But at least we have production in Cameron Wake and Anderson. Wake to me is almost proven to me. Anderson is a question mark at this point. The reason is because hes really only had a minimal appearance. On the other hand wake has been stepping up when hes had his shot. In fact im excited for Wake. Hes my X factor for the Dolphins against the Panthers. With Channing Crowder and Ferguson back and healthy i dont think Porter will be missed.

Makes you wonder what the issue really is behind the sceens
anyway I think we should at least keep Porter in the mix at some level but if we are doing just fine without him then I hope we can at least make a deal fro him in the offseason

I'm not buying
I will believe Mortensen’s story when it happens. I can’t imagine Porter getting benched instead of losing playing time. The comments Porter made today about putting the Buc’s game behind him and that he is “ready to play” against the Panthers doesn’t make sense to me if he knows he is benched. Plus, Sparano loves the guy….A 3 -man rotation is possible, Wake, Anderson, Porter…..but I just am not ready to buy the Mortensen story! If its true, we will be fine though.
Is it possible the coaches are trying to motivate Porter by the competition at his position now getting playing time?

Via the AP...
Reports have suggested the coaches didn’t appreciate Porter’s lack of professionalism in both the rehab of his knee injury and his reaction when told that Charlie Anderson(notes) would share some of his snaps.

Joey Porter... 12 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 2.5 sacks... = weak
… add his comment on Michael Vick’s reenstatement, “All it was was dogs”, and you have an ass.
I wasn’t that high on his signing to the team, and I am less concerned now as to what he does or what happens to him.
The team is moving on, he will too… and so should we….
