Free Agent Receivers

Ok, so obviously most of us agree that Wide Receiver is probably our most glaring need. So I looked up what receivers will be free agents next year and decided to post some recievers I'd like 2 see the phins go after, so here it is, let me know what you think.

OBVIOUS EYE CATCHERS

1.Vincent Jackson- San Diego seems to like him too much to let him go, I think they will franchise him or extend his contract.

2. Brandon Marshall- Due to his off the field issues I don't think parcells will pick him up, but would love to see henne to marshall

3. Hines Ward- Can't imagine Ward in any place but Pittsburgh, but maybe porter can convince him to come?

LESS-KNOWN POSSIBILITIES

Jason Avant

Steve Breaston

Antonio Bryant

Lee Evans-Imagine Evans getting signed by us and have that welker effect on the bills, lol.that would be great.

Michael Jenkins

Kevin Walter

Brian Finneran

Mark Clayton

I know the second group isn't exactly a group of true number one receivers, but they all are better receivers then anyone currently on our roster. And have enough talent to give Henne some weapons, I really hope we get one or more of these recievers. I think we should get two or three free agent receivers and then draft someone like Dez Bryant. We could probably get Jason Avant and/or  Steve Breaston for cheap. Would love to get Mark Clayton and Steve Breaston and then either Lee Evans or Brian Finneran or Kevin Walter. Just wanted to post that and see what you guys thought, anyone else agree?

Breaston has potential...

Hard to get noticed when you’re on the same team as Fitz and Boldin, but I’ve always thought he could be a low end #1 or solid #2 WR.

by tenaciouslee on Nov 11, 2009 6:36 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

I actually agree

He has loads of potential. I mean, yes, the Cardinals passed 65% of the time last season and had a gunslinger at QB, but how often do you see a team with three 1,000-yard receivers? All three of those guys have to be immensely talented. Yes, each takes double- or even triple-teams away from each other, but you still cannot post 1,000 yards with two other guys posting 1,100, even 1,200 if you don’t possess a lot of talent yourself.

those stats are inflated

Breaston isnt as good as those numbers say. He will want a contract based off those numbers which undoubtedly will be unreasonable. He’s reasonably fast but not much else.

Lee Evans would be a nice pickup for the Phins. The pathetic Bills offense will have opposite effect on Evans. He has terrible #’s for a #1 wr. This may make him affordable and who knows he may still be a great WR. I think we should do it. Save some money and still get a vet who may still have big time potential

I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

by Souwantmyname on Nov 11, 2009 4:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I'd like to get Breaston...

he seems pretty good, but maybe not as good as a #1. But he is also a good return man.

However, I’m thinking we’ll be looking to trade with someone. Maybe for Bowe.

Steve Breaston my mouth. That was a classic.

We get defensive players too and this year i’ve gone back and forth from

if one more person ranks Vincent Jackson

over Brandon Marshall im going to delete my account on this site. seriously, i never want to read about vincent jackson again, you guys are jokes. I think Devone Bess in a San Diego Offense would be the same player at Vincent Jackson. SD cannot run the ball AT ALL bc LT is 46 years old. Thats why Vincent Jackson and Gates get so many opportunities to rack up stats. Vincent Jackson is the most overrated player in the NFL.

by DRoyce on Nov 11, 2009 8:04 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

the reason is cuz he is younger and not only that, he gets better every year

he doesnt have any off the field problems, and he is on place for a 1500 yd season this season

by finzrule on Nov 11, 2009 9:10 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Well

Brandon Marshall also has Eddie Royal to contend for catches. VJ is getting all the catches because Phillip Rivers likes to focus on him. Kyle Orton spreads the ball alot, kinda like our own Chad Pennington did last year. And also brandon marshall is younger of the two. But I understand the off the field incidents. if he gets in trouble in Denver imagine South Beach. Maybe we can add stipulations to his contract like Buffalo did T.O.

by esco6781 on Nov 11, 2009 7:21 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

calm down little buddy

Vincent Jackson is 6’5, has enough speed to get behind people, and has good hands. He knows how to use his body, and he goes up and gets the football. He’s a legit number 1. Just because you never heard of him before this season don’t mean shit, because the guy can play ball. And since he has no (publicized) off-field issues or locker room issues, he’s probably a better fit for our team than BM (who I imagine would clash a bit with Sparano). Brandon Marshall is a better WR, but I can’t see Parcells going after a headache over somebody close in talent who keeps his mouth shut.

btw, Vincent Jackson is DEFINITELY not the most overrated player in the league.

yeah agreed.. he's not better than marshall

however, he is still a solid reciever and is more likely to land in miami then bmarsh..

i think he is actually underrated

I’m sure the dude would love to get out of Buffalo also..

But if TO leaves I think they will probably franchise him because they would have no receivers left

most of these guys are # 2 guys, we have too many of those, we need someone to lead this team, a true # 1, someone we can count on from day 1

multiple FA WRs

Thanks for this post. I wouldn’t mind Antonio Bryant along with drafting a WR. I also believe we might be looking to trade for a WR like kdog said. I seriously doubt we will be signing multiple FA WRs. Just from a numbers standpoint; I see Hartline and Bess back on the team next year… at the very least. I’d include Camarillo; unless he’s used in a trade. Being that we only carry 4-5 WRs…. I’d love to sign Bryant (FA) – solid few years left; draft a stud type and trading for D. Bowe would be a cherry on top. (madden style)

Gil Brandt mentioned yesterday on sirius that Parcells is already anxious/excited for the upcoming NFL Draft. I love that….

The player I want most out of this group is

Kevin Walter.

Somebody please just WATCH him block. Devastating hits. He lowers the boom and makes big plays out there on defensive backs. And then, on the very next play, he can get open for a solid catch.

I do believe he needs a big-time number one around him to get that type of separation when going out for passes, but only because on our team, he would ultimately be doubled. He is very talented. Only problem is, I don’t think he’s getting any younger. He’s around 27-29 I believe.

Even still. As Nuda posted, I would be most likely to believe the theory that we sign one of these guys (hopefully a Breaston or a Walter) and draft another in early rounds.

NO Breaston

he is more of what we have… good, if you have a Fitzgerald drawing the attention.

Any reason you left Boldin off the list?
Also, Braylon Edwards is a FA next year. Personally, i would love to steal him from the jets… that would make it a twofer!

Combo of FA and Draft

I think it would be best to either sign or trade for a guy like Bowe, Breaston or Walter…All young and have a lot of talent…REMEMBER, this regime wants young players, not to bring in old ones. If we can get one of those along with a top wr in the draft like Dez Bryant, i think that would put us more than ok at the Wr position. We’d have Bess in the slot, Turner developing…Ginn deep threat and returning kicks, a young stud in Bryant or Mike Williams and a go to in Bowe, (maybe breaston could be a no. 1 on our team, i don’t know enough on him) but I do know he’s from michigan and i love that he had already played with Henne and Long. If it takes trading Ginn for Bowe i’d 100% do it and then get a dez braynt and we would have one of the best young tandems along with bess…Henne wouldn’t need more than that.

That list needs to be revised.

The only two I see that would be good for us would either be B. Marsh or Lee Evans. kudos on that one because I was just saying the other day if he was a FA after this season we should try and pick him up. Hines Ward is not a number 1. He is used in the slot at Pittsburgh and I think we have a great slot guy in Bess. Best scenario is to try and get a YAC guy like Boldin, who is also from Florida. Make him the #1 and put Ginn in the #2 slot and BOOM! You got a guy who can go underneath and turn up a big play and he is an endzone threat, you got Teddy who can stretch the field and Bess in the slot. Could be a very scary offense. And then that way we can get some more playmakers on D. That is our biggest concern IMO.

by TEC75 on Nov 11, 2009 11:24 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

i disagree

I think braylon or Vincent would be great for us considering their size and ability. Vincent is quickly turning into a top 5 wr just below fitz, andre, reggie, and randy

he’s so underrated and very well could be a # 1 for us, he’s fast and has better hands than anyone on our team. Besides he’s still young. i say we get him and draft a reciever they say that Benn from Illinois is going to be taken in the second round. and use the rest of the picks on defense

He is also a free agent and is putting up damn good numbers. I understand Roy williams and jason Witten demand that respect as far as getting secondary attention but the kid is good and young, plus plenty f upside. And did I mention he was drafted by Dallas when Bill was there.

This list doesn't take into consideration if next year is uncapped.

If it’s uncapped, Marshall, Jackson, Avant, and Breaston all would not be UFA, cause they don’t have 6 years in the league. And there’s no way Parcells gives up two first rounders for any of those guys.

by luvs2drnk on Nov 11, 2009 10:47 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Here's the info about an uncapped 2010 for those interested:

The one factor fans have heard the most about is that 2010 and 2011 would be “uncapped” years. But there are three main trigger points that will go off in 2010 if there isn’t a new CBA in place, and they may offset the fear of life with no salary cap. They are: 1) free agency will require six years of service (instead of four years in 2010 and five years in 2011); 2) teams will have three tags to use to restrict free agents instead of one tag, as they do now; and 3) teams that go deep in the playoffs could have some spending restrictions.

So chances are pretty slim some of these guys would be available.

by luvs2drnk on Nov 11, 2009 11:07 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Either a trade for Dwayne Bowe or Miles Austin (two guys that could be available)

or hit the draft for Williams or Bryant. No on most of the guys on this list, unless we can land Jackson or BM, which Ii doubt.

Sorry About leaving off Edwards

I was thinking since jets signed him that the list wasn’t updated, maybe it isn’t I’m not sure.

But anyways would be amazing for us and funny if we signed Evans and Edwards just cause it would make us a possible superbowl contender and really irritate the jets and bills, lol. I know it wont happen but it would make me so happy if they did.
