Who's your all-time favorite Dolphins player?
Most of us have been fans for a great while -- and we've seen some great players play for us -- but who's your favorite?
Mine would have to be O.J. McDuffie. I am a Big Ten fan all the way, and I remember asking for only one thing for Xmas when I was 10 years old: a white O.J. McDuffie jersey (it has the 75th anniversary patch on it, as does the aqua Dan Marino jersey I got for my 10th bday).
I am also really partial to Richmond Webb, but O.J. is #1 for me.

Dan Marino of course
Then O.J. McDuffie. I’ve been looking high & low for a 81 jersey, but have yet to find one :(

hmm yeah. The thing is, I'm pretty young
and I barely saw any of the other dolphin legends play. The ones I saw were always on a pretty bad team with bad coaching and bad managing. So with Chad, It was the best season I ever had as a dolphin fan by far. So saying Chad is basically a tribute to the 08 team, coaching staff and gm.

Ok, fair enough. I guess I get that!
Thats what I get for being an old guy. You should do some research, watch some tapes/dvds of some of the older teams highlights. Just for perspective.

Got it. Plus, every time I have to choose a favorite " ______ ", let it be a
player of whatever I always consider their quality as a person along with their quality as a player or actor or whatever. And I highly doubt a better person has worn a Dolphin uniform.

the Marino era was both blissful and painful, because we should have gotten him at least one ring to solidify in all minds that he was the greatest of all time

Yeah, Marino era was both incredibly exciting and heartbreaking
Especially when you consider what went down during his last game.
But, I have lots of fond memories of Dan, too. Some great examples I viewed include:
-Opening day of the 1994 season when Marino and Drew Bledsoe got into a rainy, mud-drenched shootout worthy of the O.K. Corral. Dolphins win 39-35
-Marino pantsing both the Jets and the entire New York/New Jersey Ghettolands crowd in Nov. 1994 with a fake spike and touchdown pass to Mark Ingram.
-My personal favorite is from week 5 of the 1999 season when Marino just absolutely killed the Indianapolis Colts (QB’d by a young Peyton Manning) by converting a ridiculous 4th and long situation with the best pass I’ve ever seen, and then outdoes himself with an incredible fade pass into the end zone for the game-winning score.

Number one...
Paul Warfield…he’s the reason I became a Fins fan, not a Jets fan (I’m originally from NY)
2. Nat Moore
3. Bob Griese
4. JT
5. (tied) Dick Anderson/Chad Pennington/Ronnie Brown/Davone Bess
Marino didn’t make it since he didn’t win the SB. and Csonka didn’t make it since he jumped to the WFL (and thus the Fins dynasty never happened)

by LeftCoastFinFan on Oct 9, 2009 5:28 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Nope, I won't ding Warfield...
because Warfield was at the end of his career so I don’t think it mattered. Csonka’s jump did matter, causing a dynasty-on-the-make to fail. Second, like I said, I became a Fins fan mostly because of Warfield.

Fiedler was a good player. But I always liked his story. An undrafted kid from an Ivy League school wins a playoff game?! Are you kidding me? Even Tony Romo has never won a playoff game. Sorry, I won’t apologise for liking Fiedler. :)

Okay, I will say Marino 1 and Ricky 1a
I really wanted to not go with Danny as #1, because he is the obvious choice, but how do you not?
After those two, I would probably say Zack, Welker (loved the way the dude played…hurts everytime I see him now), and Duper/Clayton.
Honorable mention woud go to Gadsden and Roby. Loved to watch Roby kick…dude crushed a football.

so true
& back then I could name the whole roster every year almost.
Back then it was reliable & good for fans & you grew accustomed to the players. You knew marino would hit duper to open the field & then the deep ball to clayton.
I remember seeing my first kick return td claytons rookie year & he was like an 8th round pick.
Robys kicks were a thing of beauty, such posture & style, such elegance.
I love this site & the people on it. I don’t post much but here everyday reading since 06. I just hate posting sometimes on mobile & I can’t start a fanpost on it

And you cannot begin to understand my level of envy right now.
O.J. McDuffie will always be my favorite Dolphin. And the team’s turn-around in the early-’90s was largely because we drafted a franchise left tackle in Richmond Webb.
We also took Keith Sims in that same draft. That 1990 draft was pretty damn productive for us!

Do you happen to have a photo with Dwight Stephenson?
Hes the greatest center to ever play the game. Dont everybody forget about Dwight!
Even Bear Bryant called Stephenson the best player he ever coached, regardless of position. Now thats high praise!
And if anyone needed any further reason to hate the Jets, it was against the Jets that Dwight injured his knee ending his career.

ABSOLUTELY agree that Stephenson is the greatest center to ever play
And it was a cheap shot by the Jets that ended his career.
This franchise has a history of great offensive linemen. I hope a few of our current players will be added to that list.
