Around SBN: Ray Allen Fighting Age, Injury And His New Role

We do not like each other. With Florida State, I hated him. I hate him now. If I see him out, I'm not going to talk to him. I'm not going to slap him, but I'm not going to be pleasant.

Every time he sees me, he starts cussing. I see him and I start cussing. It's going to be like that the whole game.

-LB Channing Crowder, talking about Jets RB Leon Washington.

I, for one, am tired of Channing's mouth. If he was producing and playing well, I'd feel differently. But until he makes some plays out there, enough is enough.

I think we are giving Channing too hard of a time Matty

Though he hasn’t made many “huge” plays, he’s done all the little things right. In the run support he has filled his gaps. He’s been good in pass coverage when it isn’t against tightends. His zone drops have been solid and he has a very quick first step after the release.
In terms of blitzs, he hasn’t been very effective in terms of sacks but neither was zack. I have seen numerous times when he has pressured the QB. One time during the falcons game he RAILED Matt Ryan just as he released it. Though the pass was a TD, Ryan certainly felt the hurt.
So even though he hasnt been a play maker yet, all the little things that he is doing right is certainly being seen in terms of our run defense. A lot of credit, of course, must go to the D-Line but I think Channing has been solid.

this is well said

so the guy doesn’t make big plays. He’s a run stopper, and he does that well. He can’t cover, we know that, he knows that, I’m sure the coaches know that, yet they still ask him to cover people. That’s like asking a dog to fly. Everybody involved knows that the dog can’t fly, so why ask him to fly?

His blitzing has been better this year, but the pressure isn’t supposed to come from Channing, it’s supposed to come from our HOF Pass Rushing OLB’s, Porter and Taylor.

I do think Crowder takes too much blame for things we shouldn’t expect him to be able to do, since he’s never claimed to be good at them, or ever showed that he was. He’s good at playing the run.

Way to be an example for the youth Channing, just get this over with and play.

These guys forget they are role models. Go to a high school varsity locker room and it is fool of these kind of idiots. Among other things, because this is what they get from the professionals they look up to.

King James said it best when talking about B Edwards yesterday : “We are role models on and off the field”
And thats from the second coming of Michael Jordan.

Yeah thats what happens when you carry a city on your shoulders.

Under the pressure of the game and all the emotion it would take a robot to be perfect.
Sure, he tripped on that one, but when that’s all you can say about that sport’s biggest superstar then it a pretty weak argument against him. The guy has been a class act thus far specially off the field. The guy is married to his high school sweetheart for god sakes, and has two kids. Just look at other big shots from any major sport. Kobe? unfaithful, Plaxico Burres? Barry Bonds? Roger Clemens, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, Brandon Marshall, Michael Irivin, and the list goes on and on. The bigger the spotlight the harder it is to be a good or normal citizen. Thus, a role model.
In today’s crazy celebrity world tell me to my face that LeBron James is a bad role model

No doubt.

How many of us would want one stupid moment in our life (we all have had them) to be the basis for how we are precieved by others? If you go and kill someone thats one thing but one moment of frustration boils over and his stomping off is not a big deal when you look at the whole picture.

Can't Agree More, Matty

I am tired of listening to him too. Not only does he run his mouth, but his stupidity and ignorance spill out too. He proves he is not the brightest lightbulb, and makes this team look stupid too.

Oh, and those who say he is trying to get people fired up – He is one highly paid cheerleader, and I am. Not sure if he fires the crowd up as much as he does the other team. The trifecta need to disallow him from speaking out like he does

by KnoxVegas on Oct 7, 2009 11:44 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

why would they disallow him from speaking?

He’s funny, and he fires his teammates up. He takes a lot of pressure off of guys in the locker room too, because he’s loud and he talks shit, so all the media cares about is “what’s Crowder gonna say next?” instead of “let’s go bug Henne about that pick 6.”

I haven’t heard anybody associated with the Dolphins express displeasure with him talking, so I don’t get the big deal

He's not funny, just stupid

There have been several times where he is just talking stupid. Just about everything he said about the game in England a couple of years ago was dumb. Also, it makes him and the team look bad when he runs his mouth and then doesn’t back it up – this happens a lot.

I am not sure he even fires up his teammates. I think things like this where he is trashing another player is just ignorant. Why does he need to run his mouth.

Crowder is an average player – at best, and he constantly runs his mouth, and I think a lot of people are getting over his antics, and just want him to shut up and play.

btw

those of you saying Crowder doesn’t do shit, he’s got 14 tackles on the year, 5th on the team. The top 3 are DB’s, since everybody loves passing on us. We’ve given up 2.9 per carry on the ground. Anyone who thinks that has nothing to do with Channing is crazy. Akin Ayodele, the other MLB, has 0 sacks. The only players on the team to force fumbles are Wake and Porter, both on sacks. So nobody on the team has forced a fumble from a RB or WR. Why this all falls on Channing, I don’t know.

Everybody wants him to be Zach Thomas, but we ran a 4-3 with Zach, a defense specifically designed to funnel everything to the MLB. Zach also happens to be one of the top 2 LB’s of this generation. It’s like trying to replace Marino out there. Our ILB’s and SS, the guys who should be leading your team in tackles in a 3-4 D, have combined for 58 tackles this year. Maybe Channing isn’t the best ILB, and he definitely could be upgraded (who on our team couldn’t?), but please don’t make him out to be the worst player on the team or somebody who actually hampers the team when he’s on the field. He’s good at what he’sasked to do, which is stop the run.

imo

he lacks something, i never see a “fire under his ass” or any sense of urgancey while on the field. The whole world knows he isnt ZT but as his under study you think he would be more effective. No body can honestly sit here and say Crowder is a good MLB i would say average at best. Crowder isnt the reason our run D is so good its the line that does a great job.

he does do whats asked but he could do it better.

Anybody notice with the trifecta and the drafts.
1st year both lines were addressed and we have 2 on each side starting
2nd year DB / WR addressed we know how thats going
next year LINEBACKERS inside and out

The trifecta is watching the same games as us and crowder is a good #2mlb in the 3-4 but not a good #1
