Dolphins vs Bills: Prediction Time
It's time for our Saturday ritual - predictions. Below are some "expert" picks for Sunday's game between the Dolphins and Bills, followed by my quick thoughts and my "weekly locks" - which have been anything but thus far.
| Chris Mortensen - Mia | Adam Schefter - Mia | Tom Jackson - Buf |
| Ron Jaworski - Mia | Pete Prisco - Mia | Harmon Forecast - Buf |
| PFT - Mia | Peter King - Buf | Jason Cole - Buf |
| Charles Robinson - Mia | Clark Judge - Buf | Michael Silver - Buf |
The "experts" seem split relatively evenly around the internet. But, of course, they are all wrong.
I know I'm only 1-2 picking these Dolphin games this year, but I have a strong feeling about this one on Sunday. Many of you know I'm far from a "Chad Henne blind follower." I have been and will be very critical of him. But I just have a feeling that the Dolphins are going to open up the offense on Sunday against a depleted Buffalo secondary and let Henne air it out far more than some might think. The Dolphins will obviously have to protect Henne - but I think the offensive line is coming along well enough to do so.
Defensively, the Dolphins have to be more aggressive and generate a more consistent pass rush. If the Dolphins let Trent Edwards stand back in the pocket all day, he will beat you. He has weapons on the outside and we know the Dolphins have a tendency of giving up big plays. As pass rush will take some pressure off of the secondary. Oh - and my bold prediction - Sean Smith gets his first career interception on Sunday.
Dolphins win 20-16.
Meanwhile, Brian Galliford from Buffalo Rumblings also checks in with his prediction below.
I don't like the way Buffalo matches up with Miami, particularly given their grievous injury concerns. Even with Joey Porter possibly sidelined - and my gut tells me that that [insert expletive] will find a way to play - Miami's big, physical, athletic front seven will cause big problems for a Bills offensive line that's banged up at tackle and extremely inexperienced.
But I'm not particularly concerned about Buffalo's defensive injuries in the secondary, because we've got good depth there. Our defensive line is playing well, and I expect the focus to be containing the run in order to make Chad Henne beat us over the top. He might do it, but it's a longer shot for the Dolphins than letting Ronnie Brown run wild.
I expect this to be a low-scoring affair. Really, this is a pick'em game in my mind. Whenever I get to that point, I take either the home team or the more desperate team. Miami is both of those this week. Dolphins 23, Bills 17
My Week 4 Locks
Giants -8.5 over Chiefs - I expect a big day on the ground from Brandon Jacobs and I expect the Giants to dominate defensively.
Bengals -5.5 over Browns - Mark this down: the Browns will be the last team to win a game this year...if at all.
Cowboys -2.5 over Broncos - The Broncos are the biggest "3-0 pretender" I've seen in recent memory.
Last Week: 1-2
Season: 2-4

I am a Henne blind follower
With that said, I think this is the perfect game for him to start his career with. A depleted Bills secondary and a home game will do wonders for his confidense.

blind follower or hater?
its not blind flollowing if u want a guy to do well. id rather hope he does good than point out everytime he makes a mistake or bad throw. its like matty and others are just at the edge of there seat wishing and hoping he will fail. Matt Ryan wasnt the greatest QB in college but is turning out pretty good. give him a chance before you decide to kick him to the curb.

blind follower...
…as in those people (and there are some) that think Henne is going to be great simply because he’s a Dolphin and was picked by the trifecta.
That’s what a “blind follower” is.

Not a hater
Im not sold yet just because he was drafted by Parcells and Ireland, AND I am not ready to throw in the towel like some of the posts Ive read this week, based on a half of football in which he made really one big mistake that alot of young QBS make. He is in a situation where he can succeed, unlike say, Brady Quinn, who got benched after going 0-3.(Maybe the Cam draft yielded one positive result. ) the proof is only going to come with time. Tomorrow is the next step in his growth as a pro QB. I can see it now. If the Phins lose it will all be his fault to alot of fans, but if they win he will be the hero and sav ior of the franchise.

does it’s job, in both run blocking and pass protection, Dolphins win esy.

Im not worried about the offense, its the defense
The lack of a pass rush without JPorter in the game, and a weak middle defense. Not to mention the toughest test this year for a young secondary, Two #1 WR’s in Evans and Team Obliterator.
The offense needs to keep the ball for 45 min again in order to win this game

For God's sake
Let Henne throw the ball… far
If we can run this well when the defense has a total lack of respect for our big pass capability with Pennington, we could really start to do some serious damage on the ground and just unleash Ronnie
by SDefee on Oct 3, 2009 2:42 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
You'll probably only see 1 or 2 more deep throws.
I think it’ll take more than a week to work in the different protection schemes, route running and everything else that goes into a deep ball…..its not just a simple “run deep, throw deep” implementation.

I agree
but the WRs, O-line and coaches should be ready before last week. So route running and protection shouldn’t be a problem. the coaches should have the plays already drawn up
All that should be needed is For Henne ti get the timing down with his receivers.

23-13 Dolphins
with Wake getting a safety, Let’s hope we dont make Buffalo’s DBs into pro-bowlers. Let’s not stop running the ball, after it’s doing so well to start the game. We had imagination last year on offense, let’s pick up the pace. how about an end around to Ginn, maybe he wont drop that ball.

I'm 1 -1 now in this column
Gotta get back on the up side, so…
Here’s my lock of the week! I’m takin the Dolphins in a pick ‘em. Buffolo should be out manned on both sides of the ball. The only thing I worry about is big play deep throws, but they ain’t Indy, so I think we come away with the win at home.

Personally I think the Bills will focus in on the run game and limit what Ronnie and Ricky can do offensively. They have their DL guys and their linebackers except Poz. That should be OK. Our secondary is very deep at CB especially. Both safeties being out makes me nervous but with the Tampa 2 the safeties are safety valves anyways. Don’t get beat deep and we are OK. The Dolphins won’t score 30 points.
The Bills on the other hand are Jekyll and Hyde on offense. We’ll have to see which one shows up today. I think Trent gets the receivers involved today, Lynch gashes the middle of the 3-4 for good yards, and the Bills win it in a low scoring game like 20-10 or 23-17.
