The Sky Is (Not) Falling
Hey guys, after reading all the fanposts, comments, and even finding this site has brought me to the conclusion for another smacking of our fanbase's face. THE SKY IS NOT FALLING HERE FELLAS, and Im here to explain why:
1) We are 2-4. BFD
Remember that time last year, where we were 2-4 and everyone here was hanging there heads in disappointment? We had just unleashed the Wildcat for the first time on the Pats, went into the bye came back and that pimp slapped the Chargers. Feeling good we went on to blow a game we should've one in Houston (which I saw with my own eyes) and then the Wildcat was reduced to the Pussycat against the Ravens. Remember that guys? I sure as hell do. And how did we respond? We went on to lose only one other game against the Pats and then went on to win the division after bending Favre and the Jets over on their home turf. Most of you will point and say "well we had an easy schedule and thats what helped us out". Fair enough. It did. But guess what? Were a better team than last year and that once "toughest schedule" looks alot easier than it used to. And lets be honest, did if anyone told us how good the Colts and Saints would be this year, would anyone think we would stand a chance? Putting my love for this team aside, my head would say no.
2) Speaking of that schedule...
So here is the rest of '08's schedule:
-Buffalo W
-@Denver W
-Seattle W
-Oakland W
-NE L
-@St. Louis W
-@ Buffalo W
-San Francisco W
-@ KC W
-NYJ W
So we had a favorable schedule, no one will deny that. So now lets take a look at the remaining games we have this year:
-@ NYJ
-@ NE
-Tampa Bay
-@Carolina
-@Buffalo
-NE
-@Jacksonville
-@Tennessee
-Houston
-Pittsburgh
So a little tougher right? Well we have New York again this stretch, Buffalo once, and the Pats twice, but once like last time. So thats 3 that are the same. Outside of playing the Pats again and Pittsburgh (who might not care at that point), is there any real difference other than it being "a little" tougher? When you consider that we are better, I don't think so. So lets stop here and now and focus on taking out the Jets on Sunday just like the team is, because we still can make a playoff run.
3) Speaking of playoff runs....
So to win our division we need to beat our division opponents, and win the games were are supposed to win. Well we have 4 of those such games left and we win them, we have a great shot at repeating. And as far as sneaking in as a wild card? Well we play the Jets, Steelers, Texans, and Jags (and we lost to the Chargers) so again, if we win those games, we have a plethora of those nifty little things known as tiebreakers in our pockets.
4) Keeping it in perspective
The foundation is there fellas. We can all see it. Lets see, we have our QB (I dont care what anyone says, Henne is the man and will only get better), our slots (Bess and Hartline) our backs (Brown, Polite, Cobbs), Our O-line (Thomas and Long are how old again?), a pass rushing monster in the making (Wake), two bookend DB's (Smith and Davis), a tremendously talented o-line anchored by Merling and Langford, and not to mention a great punter and kicker. And as for Wilson, lets give him some time; he's getting better. And all those guys I listed have less than 5 years of experience each. We have a young and healthy team. And the veterans we have will be replaced down the line, but outside of Ferguson, Taylor and Porter it wont be anytime soon. And lets not forget about potential stars such as Culver, Clemons, Turner, White, Nalbone, and Sheets.
5) What I'm watching for
We may not make the playoffs. BFD. Im not interested in making the playoffs honestly. From this point out I want to see Henne grow as a QB. I want to see Brown get a prowl bowl berth and a contract extension to go along. I want to see Davis and Smith scare the shit out of people with what they'll become. I want to see Long and the rest of the o-line continue to improve and make a name for themselves. I want to see Bess and Hartline run crisper routes and become elite slot receivers that tire the hell out of defenses who simply can't keep up. I want to see Haynos send Fasano to the Bench. I want to see Porter and Taylor play harder to show up Wake and to continue to teach him so he can replace them in the near future. I want to see Langford and Merling continue stuffing the line as they have been, because lets be honest, can anyone run the ball up the middle on us? I want to see this team continue to progress as they are doing, and lets not forget, Sparano is still learning too.
6) Check out the 2010 draft prospects
It is insanely deep, especially in the areas of need for us like NT, LB, and WR. Seriously, its gonna be like Christmas morning for a front office that is insanely good at picking through the dirt for diamonds. Personally I have a man crush on Brandon Spike and would dump my pants if we got him.
7) Time to turn our attention to the Jetsies
A couple of weeks ago I maed a post entitled "Why Id rather have a pet dolphin than a jet". If anyone doesn't know I'm studying to be a Zoologist and so you can trust what Im about to say. So without further ado, here's mo pld post reincarnated into this one:
To begin, lets talk about some facts concerning dolphins:
-Although they live in water, dolphins are mammals and breath air through their blowhole, which is located at the top of their head. Some types of dolphins must rise to the surface to breathe every 20 to 30 seconds while others can hold their breath as long as 30 minutes.
They're mammals that can hold their breath for up to 30 minutes? So basically Dolphins dominate the air and the water. Jets can only fly and even then they need gas which is expensive as shit.
-Dolphins are highly social, playful, curious and intelligent.
So a dolphin will be my bff and keep me entertained? I'd like to see a jet do that...even if it's a transformer id still be a Decepticon dick who'd try to kill my ass because I'm a "human".
-Dolphins sleep by resting one half of their brain at a time so that one eye is always open. This allows them to rise to the surface to breathe and to protect themselves from predators.
FACT: Dolphins are always ready to go Rambo on your ass. Don't jets need an engine key or something?
-Male dolphins are called Bulls and female dolphins are called Cows.
So....this?
So dolphins not only sex their own ladies but other mammal's ladies too. Does a jet even have a penis?
-A baby dolphin is called a calf. Baby dolphins are born tail first and suckle from their mother for up to 4 years. Mother dolphins produce milk that is extremely rich in fat, often up to 50 percent.
Even the youngings get action. Does a jet even have a mouth?
-Each dolphin has its own signature whistle to identify itself.
Dolphins know who they are. And they know who you are too. Watch out. Anyone found a jet's penis yet?
-Dolphins have excellent vision and well-developed eyes.
To better kick your ass with.
-Dolphins are carnivores eating mostly fish and squid and sometimes crustaceans.
So dolphins like to be taken out to a nice seafood restaurant; which is a great icebreaker. And jets don't even have mouths which means that theyre anorexic. You know who else is anorexic? Paris Hilton. And she's a bitch.
-Dolphins have a thick layer of fat under their skin called blubber, which helps them to keep warm.
So basically you can't kill them with extreme weather. Jets pussy out in a thunderstorm
Also, dolphins are tight with the troops:
They love America:
They are armed and pissed:
8) Last but not least
I hope ya'll enjoyed those fun facts our beloved team's namesake. In all seriousness, though lets put some things into perspective. We may make the playoffs, we may not. But you know what? We have a great team with a great heart who fight week in and week out. The philosophy down in South Florida has changed. And even though they lost on Sunday, you can see it in the game. No team all year has lead the Saints, and certainly not by that many points, and though the Saints will most likely lose at some point, does anyone see another team laying a first half smack down on them like that? I don't. The thing is we lost. We lost the colts game. So enough with the "woulda shoulda coulda". Were 2-4 and weve lost some tough games. But I can't imagine a better test for this young team than this year. Seriously if young guys like Davis, Smith, and Henne have to go this now, is there anything that can't stand in their way? And enough of the GInn bashing. That website I linked to at the top made me sick to my stomach. A whole blog dedicated to bashing one player. He's not the reason were 2-4 and everyone knows it. Its ludicrous to focus in one (Ginn) or even (Wilson) and or even three (Crowder) players and say that they are the problems. This is a team sport after al. Speaking of Ginn, did anyone else notice him run down the field and strip the ball from Sharper after he coughed it up? I did. And to me that shows hes trying. And dammit the guy has the speed to be a great #2 if he plays with that much heart. A big number one, Ginn, Bess, and Hatline sounds pretty good doesn't it? It does to me.
So with that I say to all of you, the sky is not falling so take heart. And I cant wait till Sunday for our "clown" QB and "cheating" offense can bend the Jets over and give their tender ass the spanking it deserves.

We have a bright future
Nice post. Times like these call for a little perspective. We have the key building blocks in place in all the right places.
Food for thought: Indy and the Saints are two of the last three remaining unbeatens and we beat them both like a red-headed step-child…..until our defense let them off the hook.
We’ll probably finish around 8-8 and with another good draft, we should be contenders for years.
