We need another McDuffie/Gadsden

Okay so here is my analysis of what i have seen so far, and what i think our needs are going forward from the WR position.

Star-divide

First, we are in desperate need of that great posession receiver, in the mold of O.J. McDuffie on this team.  i believe we have him on the roster right now.  Davone Bess, can be similar to OJ in so many ways.  He is quick, doesn't have elite speed, but runs great routes, can get in and out of breaks rather quickly, and has pretty good hands when it comes to short yardage throws, and running with the ball after the catch.  I really believe he can be the guy that moves the chains for us on a consistant basis, but until he gets more targets, that might never come to fruition.  OJ wasn't super fast, but what he did great was knowing the yardage he needed to get the first down, and basically caught everything in site.  Bess can mirror that if given the chance.  If it's not Bess, than we need someone in the mold of an Eddie Royal, or even a Wes Welker type.

Look i know everyone here thinks Miami needs a true "Number One" WR, but i don't think that we will ever have one that will top the century mark in catches, as well as have double digit TD's as long as we run the Wilcat.  What we need are guys that can move the chains a la McDuffie, and a guy Like Gadsden that isn't affraid to go big and go over the middle.

Stop dreaming of the likes of Boldin, Brandon Marshall, and guys like that.  First of all, in order to get them, you would have to promise the sun, the moon, and the stars.  but i feel that within THIS system, they would be lost, because we don't throw enough as it is.  Now, some may say that if we acquired talent like that, it might force us to change our play calling and be more vertical.  Okay, i will give you that much.  But in the end, is it really worth it when all we need are guys that can consistantly move the chains?  Not overpay for a player that might catch the two to three downfield throws we make per game.  We need consistency, more than the big homerun.  That my friends will come with the running game once we can keep the chains moving, and not force teams to stack the box.

As always, please respond, and don't hammer me too bad on this on...LOL

you know what else we need?

another Dan Marino. another Richmond Webb. we could clone the Marks Bros if ya fancy?

sorry, i don’t mean to attack you directly, but we have like 20 posts all about what we need. this just happened to be the one i randomly responded to.

it gets to a point where the horse has already decomposed and all your beating is ribcage and spine.

we’re weak @ WR, the secret is out.

Omg...Bess is amazing

If he isn’t resigned at the end of the year….I’m going to question the Trifecta.

But with Ginn doing terrible, I’m sure we’ll see Bess play many years for the Phins

I miss #81. Dude was a badass

Arrelious Benn is like a taller, faster McDuffie, so maybe he’s the guy you’re looking for…

The problem is that all we have are OJs and Oronde's.

Camarillo, Bess, and Hartline are all in the mold of OJ McDuffie. Good hands, good route running, can get open, but all lack breakaway speed.
Then we got Turner, who follows in Gadsden’s mold. Big body, great hands, slow as dirt.
So in staying with picking a former Dolphin WR mold that we need. I would say we need another Mark Duper. A true deep threat with good hands, can make people miss, and can take any catch from goal to goal. We thought Ginn would become that player, but sadly we were mistaken.

Great point. Ginn isn't a pimple on Super Duper's ass

Clayton and Duper are the perfect example of two very different receivers coming together to provide a massive threat in the passing game.

We were weak at WR last year and someone got way over 3000 passing yards.

Spread it out. Have 4 go to WR’s. And run, run, run!

A coupla years back, an AFC team won a super bowl throwing to all “b” receivers.

Are you forgetting we had to play that style because of CP10's limitations?

Its not an ideal system as we all saw when we played Baltimore. It tore us apart on offense because they just played everyone near the line of scrimmage. The reason you “spend” for the superstar WR’s is so you can punish defenses for playing this way. This is also he only reason Ted Ginn is still on the team. He is the only one of our wr’s that can challenge deep (catching said deep ball is a different story)

So yes obtaining a pricy WR will change our a offense but never in a bad way…. They can however F up your team chemistry. So is it worth it?? IDK bu it seems every team that has won the SB recently has had good go to wr’s

I probably know Judo! How many of you can make the same boast?

u lost me with all that we dont need a 1wr jargain

Ginn/Fasano have dropped so many clutch time passes its rediculous. Yeah, our defense could’ve made stops to keep us in games, but if u put a boldin/ marshall/ bowe in place of ginn, we win the Colts and Saints games.

Dont tell me we dont need a WR, HOGWASH.

2009 is a year of respect ladies and gentlemen. Lets get it.

Medic it right on. We need a safty, mlb, te and most certianly a top level wide out.

I look at the adjustment that the Saints made on Sunday. What they did was basic football 101. We were running all over them so they started stacking the line shutting down the run/wildcat and forcing/daring us to throw. I assume they were gambling that they “might” get burned on one on one coverage against our WR’s. The gamble worked because we dont have that guy that is going to torch them time after time in one on one coverage. Like medic says, put a Boldin/Marshall/Bowe type in there and burn them a couple of times and then we can run on them again.
