If I were coach...

First off, this is my first post and I'd like to introduce myself. I've been fins fan for as long as I can remember, in a family full of jets fans. I also attend college up in Boston and wear my fins gear proudly to class. Two years ago I took a lot of shit, but last year all I heard was excuses. These circumstances have shifted my hatred away from the Jests and placed it more on the Patriots, so every year I hope the Pats go 0-16 and the jets 2-14. ;-P Any way, onto the fins...

If I were coach, I would...

...Bench Teddy Ginn. He has no courage or confidence, and his penchant for dropping passes and running out of bounds/falling down when he manages to hold on to the ball have been well documented. Activate Turner instead and let's see what we have, he can't do any worse... I doubt he would have handed the ball to Darren Sharper. I'm not saying to take him out of the offense for the rest of the year, just one game. The benching should motivate him. The coaches need to rebuild his confidence. The deep ball against the Jets and his devastating runs on end arounds have flashed his ability, so that's where we start. As good as Ricky has been as the motion man in the Wildcat, let's put Ginn there on a few plays. He is faster to the edge and it's as good a way as any to build his confidence, plus we can move Ricky to Cobbs' old spot. That and a few play action shots down field should build him back up. He's not a #1 receiver, but should we ever find one, he'll be a great #2.

...Get Wake more playing time. It's clear that Porter is less than 100%, so getting Wake more active in the defense could help Porter get healthy while Wake gains experience. Our secondary is less than perfect, so pressure is important, and Porter is not getting it done this year. It's also helping the argument that Wake has been playing well when in the line-up. I think that a rotation on that side would be a good way to go. If Wake starts getting man-handled, then end the experiment. But if Porter starts dominating as he gets healthy (which I think he will), get him, Wake and JT on the field at the same time.

...Play more aggressive defense. Look at how foolish the pressure made Brees look in the first half. Do that every game. Mix up the defensive fronts with aggressive blitzes and recapture that danger we showed. Get Culver (and Clemons) more involved. We seemed to play much better when we had three safeties on the field. The offense has put up over 30 points a game since Henne took over, it's time for the defense to step up for an entire game.

...Kick Pasqualoni and Henning in the rear. Seriously, WTF? The defense was firing on all cylinders the first half, so the playcalling becomes more conservative? We have been the MOST successful running team behind our two great running backs, powerful O-line, and the wildcat. So we come out of halftime up by 14 and naturally we were running throwing? What? Why did we mess with what was working?

We've shown that we have the ability on both offense (vs. the Jets and Bills) and on defense (vs. the Bills and early vs. the Saints), now we just need to do it consistently, that's the step I feel we need to take to be a truly great team.

That's it for now, hope you like it, and go easy on me.

I agree with all of your points except one

Ted Ginn’s role may be suck balls but he is our only deep threat. Our passing game would take a hit if he is replaced by Hartline.

Current Phinsider Feud Points: 23

There are times in my life wheere I have self-doubt, but when this happens, I simply ask myself: What would Don Draper do? So I bone a random whore.

OMG you did not just say that did you?

Who has the longest reception out of ginn or hartline so far this year? Hartline
Who has caught more balls that have been his target? Hartline
Who is a better blocker? Hartline
Who is not scared to get hit? Hartline

How can anyone still think its better to have ginn on the field as a DECOY? If you were a drug DEA agent you wouldnt use a nun disguise to work your way up into the drug lords crib to arrest him.. you would use a lowlife druggy disguise so as to fit in. You cant use ted ginn as a decoy disguised as a receiver cus all teams know he cannot catch. What good is he as a decoy when everyone knows he only catches 25% of the balls that hit him in the hand?

Henne is now our leader. Lets see what the guy can do !
As usual the R&R Xpres is non stop to its next destination !

We need this pass D to STEP THE F UP and do what they get paid to do!

Welcome!

I agree with everything with the exception of putting Ginn in the Wildcat in place of Ricky. Ginn does not have what it takes to make a cutback or find the opening. Remember the first down Ricky made on a sweep where he hurdled a guy? He knew exactly where he needed to get to for the first. Put Ginn in on that same play and he runs out of bounds 4 yards short of the first. Cant do it man!

Thanks

I agree Ricky is awesome, so I’m not saying a permanent replacement of Ricky would be appropriate. I just think that Teddy has shown great ability to get outside on a traditional end around, imagine if he got the ball right off the snap. Ginn moving at full speed while the D is just getting started seems like a mismatch. I know he can’t catch, but he sure can run.

A couple of weeks ago I would have agreed with you. Now I dont think so.

On the end around the other day he was too afraid to cut back where there was some blocking and just ran out of bounds. Its like the guy is just too scared to play football.

I guess I just want Teddy to be able to contribute

Even though I know he’s playing awful. Part of me always wonders how good he would be if we had brought in a veteran to mentor him and go over tape (like we have done with Smith+Davis/Allen and Henne/CP10). Maybe someone like Marvin Harrison could’ve made a difference…

I know exactly what your saying. I would love to see us get something out of him

this year if only to increase his value in a trade.

Hartline is good, but he doesn't the particular style of a number one wideout. He works for now, but he should be used in more of a Welker role.

I wouldn't say it's awesome, but I agree with a lot that you said

I vote Kory Sheets as the wildcat instead of Ginn. He’s a Felix Jones clone. he also appears to have pretty good hands.
I’d like to see Wake and Walden alternate on the Strong Side and Taylor and Porter alternate on the weak side.
Have a competition. Whichever team of pass rushers gets more sacks pays the other team $1,000 per week.
So its Wake/Taylor vs. Walden/Porter.
I would also advocate Culver and Clemons as safeties instead of Bell and Wilson.
We would lose some run stuffing ability, but we wouldn’t get killed as badly in the passing game.
It is of no use if we are deadly against the run and a sieve against the pass.
Why bother stuffing the run on first and second down only to give up 15-20 yard completions (or 40+ yard completions) on third and long?
We wouldn’t be as dominant against the run, but we would be better against the pass. We would balance out our weaknesses a little better (get more pass rush and cover the TE and backs better).

Abandoned the Draft Sean Smith at #25 Bandwagon to Join the Draft Sean Smith at #61 Bandwagon and get Vontae Davis and Chris Clemons. Trio > me.

1,000$ a week, haha that's cute.

I agree about the Safeties. I don’t know what this freaking coaching staff is thinking but seeing Bell and Wilson still in there is just pathetic. Look at Culver, he was there for a bit and had an interception almost returned for a TD. Bell most come out on passing downs, if not all the game. That SOB is the most overrated player I have ever seen play in my whole life. OVER RATED. specially on this site. The guy just can’t cover anybody. Not tight ends, not receivers, not anybody. That is the worst Safety tandem in the league by far.
Even the name is ironic = safety. Yeah right.
Its just frustrating. This team just doesn’t have playmakers. Not at WR, not at LB and specially not at the secondary position beside Sean Smith. Not to say at quarterback. What use is Henne’s “cannon” if he is checking down every chance he gets, not to mention Henning awful play calling.

Thanks for the honesty

I think Sheets deserves a look, but I believe that if the coaching staff can rebuild Teddy’s confidence and show him how to play tough, he can be productive. One of my biggest fears is that we’ll trade him, for next to nothing, to a team with a true #1 and he’ll end up a decent #2.

I feel like both Bell and Wilson (when he manages to tackle) have shown that they play much better when attacking the line of scrimmage. So move one up to inside linebacker, where that is their job (and I think they do that with Bell in some dime packages) and put a true free safety back there in Culver or Clemons.

Also, I like the pass rushing competition idea. I can just see Porter jawing at Taylor after a big sack as they switch positions.

I would be calling AZ at the end of the season. Boldin is not happy there and wants to be

in Miami. While Boldin is a true #1 hes a #2 in AZ and we can offer them Ginn as a potential #2. We will have to throw in something else but maybe another player and like a 3rd or a 4th pick. I know Boldin has been hurt but I would still rather take my chances on him over having the headache of Ginn around any more. If thats a no go I call up the Ravens and see what they will offer. Cam loves the guy and probably still thinks he can make a star out of him. So be it. Let him have another one of his guys back.

Agreed, Boldin in Miami colors would be awesome

But I don’t see the Trifecta giving up the draft picks. The Ravens are hurting for receivers though, maybe they’ll overpay.
