Post-Game Thread: Dolphins crumble in second half
It would have been easier to lose this game in a blowout loss. But blowing a 24-3 lead at home is tough to swallow.
There are a lot of reasons we can come up with for the loss. We'll get into those later tonight/tomorrow.
Keep this thread clean. Recap post to follow later. And please note, instead of posting a fanpost that is short and is nothing more than venting, post them as comments here. I don't need a million fanposts about the same things.

Upset the Dolphin Didn't Win,
but you have to give props to the Saints. There team, especially the offense is for real. I am happy that we stayed (and pummeled in the 1st half) the best team in the NFL right now. That shows how far we’ve come. We are probably a year or two away from being able to be one of the best teams in the NFL, but we are competing with the big boys already. I will say that I cannot argue if Drew Brees gets the MVP – to come back from 3 interception like he did was unreal. Props to the Saints, but our Boys fought hard all day.

I wasn't impressed by the Saints.
Indy’s win against us when we weren’t making 10,000 mistakes was much more impressive.

They're not on the team right now
And I never hated him like I do Ginn. They were just bad players we were forced to turn to. Ginn is out there wasting space better used for players who can do a better job, even if THEY have no business in the league.
I can’t hate a guy for just sucking, but I can hate a number one draft pick who has all the talent in the world and refuses to use his head and show up to the game. Screw him. He’s getting a free paycheck. I wish Saban was our coach again just so he’d yell at Ginn until Ginn’s family cries.

One game winning catch doesn’t excuse a guy that helps lose three other games because of drops. Not to mention that that “catch” was all Ginn’s speed and Henne’s arm.

While this may be true it does not change the fact that Ginn only gives us something every 4th or 5th game.
Otherwise he is useless.

We won’t know what we REALLY have with Henne until the end of next year. And hopefully he finds himself a new #1 WR to utilize some time in this offseason…..

I'm so with you on Ginn
…watch him, doesn’t block, runs out of bounds when he can get an important 1st down, not only doesn’t catch passes but knocks them to the DBs. Even if they are slower, almost any other WR would be better for the entire game. Sure he might have a good play here or there, but he hurts more than helps.

What puzzles me the most is
How do we pretty much abandon the run with the lead? there was no play action early when the run was succeeding, then as the defense started to stop the run, Henning abandons it almost alltogether. Ball control is what the team specializes in and we got into a shootout WITH THE FRICKIN LEAD!!!!!!!! WTF??

This was my problem
Yes, Ginn was his usual awful, over-paid, useless self, and Wilson continues to miss and blow tackles like he’s covered in oil, but the play-calling in the second half was among the worst I’ve seen from this coaching staff.
We have Ronnie Brown, a clearly dominating Ricky Williams, and the lead, yet we turn to our average-at-best, horrific-at-worst passing game? And therefore allow Drew Brees and the most explosive offense in the NFL MORE TIME to score?! It didn’t make sense at all, and the entire coaching staff should really sit down and consider whether or not they made a bunch of mistakes, or if they are really that stupid.
All that being said, the first half was nearly perfect Dolphins football. We should take pride in that at least, and I hope the players watch tape of that extensively, because I’ve never seen THIS team of Phins play better than that.

Grades
Henne – C – His numbers weren’t pretty but the O-line betrayed him in the 2nd half. He was getting hit every play.
O-line C – Whats an A plus an F? A C. Story of 2 halfs
RB’s – B – Ricky had a monster game but again the running game failed on us late. WEe couldn’t get any long drives going
WR’s – D+ See: Ginn, Ted
TE’s D – didn’t stand out
D-Line – C- IMO the real culprits. These guys turned into plastic the 2nd half.
LBs – B- Got some pressure but they were getting banged late. Crowder got punded.
DBs – B – This could be higher if Shockey didn’t make gibril wilson his bitch.
ST – A- these guys were swarming. Great energy. DC$ was perfect

Exception to Greg who shows up when we need him… I don’t know why he tried to make that bonehead play we had 2 time outs…
I also want to give a pass to Hartline who came out and played to win, he’s just too rookie like out there though. If we had a real number one receiver he’d look really good.

I am amazed...
I am still confident in Henne….I blame the O-Line in the 2nd half…but the dropped passes are unforgivable…and Wilson…giving Shockey 20 yards to run by playing pattycake. We still cant seem to cover TE’s….
I dont know where to begin with Ginn….hartline showed why he should replace Ginn…Ginn still seems to be scared of defenders…doesnt fight for passes…and has brick hands.
Fasano….catch the ball and we are halfway down the field with some confidence.
props to N.O….i still pick them for the Super Bowl….I am encouraged that we played them hard….I hope this experience helps us next week against the hated Jets.

I do not think the D blew this game
I think the fact that they stuffed our run game in the second half—thus killing our ability to sustain drives—is what did us in. The D gave us a lead and the O couldn’t hold onto it.

We changed the game plan defensively for some reason too
it seemed like the crazy defense stuff in the first half we did, like not lining up till the snap, having only 1 lineman down at the snap, all stopped in the second half. Its like we stopped doing what was working after halftime. That really bothers me too, when a team changes a gameplan before it stops working. The whole second half we were just in the normal defense and got NO pressure

Ted Ginn had 5 drops! 5 Drops! Release him immediately! I don't give a crap about his one nice TD catch versus the Jets! He needs to go, like now!
He leads everyone else in the league in drops by atleast 10! It’s unbelievable! Either you move him to corner or you release. But then again, He’s afraid of contact so playing corner wouldn’t work either! Teddy, you better hope there’s a professional flag football league or your career in football is over! He’s worse than garbage! I’ve had it with him! Release him please and just let him go to the Ravens! Maybe he’ll single handedly ruin there season
too! I backed him up alot at the start of the season but I simply can’t anymore. I hope he breaks his leg next game that way I don’t have to see him in a Dolphins uniform anymore! It’s cruel to say and uncalled for but that’s how I feel and I won’t take it back! It’s not like I’m hoping he dies, I just want to see is leg snap a little. Lol
As for Anthony Fasano and Gibril Wilson, they both better be gone after the year as well! I don’t know what happened to Fasano but at this point, I don’t care. Just let him go already. And Gibril Wilson misses more tackles than anyone i’ve ever seen before! What a joke!

Ok fine. I also blame Dan Henning, Tony Sparano, and the Referees. Is that ignorant enough for you?
Come on guy. Wake up. This one you can’t blame the whole team. Maybe on most nights but not this one. Guys like JT, Nate Jones, Vontae, Sean Smith, Ricky Williams, Brian Hartline, the special teams unit minus one play, Yeramiah Bell, Henne, Ronnie Brown, the D-line; they played there hearts out today. And they did not lose this game. They didn’t make Ted Ginn drop 5 passes (one for a TD) that could have changed the entire game. They didn’t make Fasano drop a wide open nice pass from Ronnie Brown that could have been a 25 yard gain! They didn’t call a time-out with 5 seconds left on what should have been a field goal allowing Drew Brees to go back on the field and score a TD before the end of the half. They may have missed a couple tackles here and there but Gibril Wilson had 6 missed tackles by himself. The rest of the team had 8 combined! Come on guy. What are you talking about?
by JP 23 on Oct 25, 2009 9:27 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions 0 recs
I think her point is that while you can pin some things on a few guys there is
PLENTY of blame to go around. There are a ton of missed tackles, missed blocks, missed assignments, wrong routes that we dont even realize happen in a game like this.

I was not putting you on the spot. I was debating with you. Once again two different things.
I am not a Texan so that makes not sense.

Wat happened to the play calling?
We seriously jus abandoned the run for almost the entire second half. After we dominated the line for the first half and built a big lead, we come out in the second half and try to match the Saints pass for pass. Thats wat lost us the game. We are a running team. When did the playcallers forget this?
And can we please jus trade Ted Ginn for the 7th round pick we might be able to get for him.
by 7th Round Pick on Oct 25, 2009 8:48 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yeah really. Every year Ginn stays on the Phins, we lose more bargaining power.
The first season, we could have got something nice while people didn’t know him. Second Year: Still young he’s learning. Third Season: Who is going to give anything of merit for him. Nobody. The Raider probably don’t even want him.

I don’t feel like making or reading any outlandish statements. That was a rough one to lose. Now, the Bess (NON) fumble play was a tremendous momentum changer, but on the other hand this one of those total team losses all the way down the line to the coaching staff. I’m just glad I didn’t go to Hooters this week.

everyone should try not to be so hard on ricky. he played hard and yes he dropped a crucial pass but this is the second game this year that ginn has lost for us. Not about playoffs
I know the GOAL should be the playoffs, but I don’t think Miami will be IN the playoffs this year, and I don’t think it matters, because if they did sneak in, they wouldn’t go far. They are 2+4 and the same weaknesses show up every game. Those must be addressed before we all strive for playoffs, unless we want to see more days like today, on a national stage in the playoffs.
The team is in year two of rebuilding, has no receiver threats, and it’s the first year for Henne starting. I will be upset if they don’t make a big push next year though, hopefully after a good draft and maybe a free agent pickup or so.

Maybe
This team is building something. We could have been in a real hole with CP going down, now we play good with one of the best teams in the NFL. I still think you need to find a way to wind when you’re up 24-3, however we always knew that this tem wasn’t a super bowl contender this year. Let’s hope that Sparano figures out how to get 2 or 3 play makers – Ginn is not one.

It's not a contender and now we know why
The talent, almost all of it is there, but we’re simply too inexperienced, from the bottom to the top at the coaching staff.
We’re learning to win. We need games like this. We need to lose games in every way possible before we can learn to win games in every way possible.

It was maybe 2 weeks ago that some guy here was saying..
.how we could get Braylon Edwards for Ted Ginn straight up. Ha ha. Don’t we all wish.
Ted Ginn wouldn’t even fetch 3 sacks of marbles and 2 rotten tomatoes in a trade. What an underwhelming, underachieving player.
As for the rest of the game, the first half I thought to myself, see? this is exactly what I expected would happen with us controlling the game and NO looking past us.
Then in the second half I have no idea who those guys were that lined up in dolphin uni’s – they sure bore no resemblance to the group that played in the first half.
Henne is a young QB and this was one of those games where he struggled some. As far as I’m concerned the loss can squarely be pinned on others: offensive & defensive lines, gibril wilson (like every darn week really…), and of course, Ted Gimp.

Hey Fins, you guys are good, and getting better
On our blog the other day some one was raving about Vontae Davis, now I see why. He played a hell of a game, as did your entire team, except for Ginn and one or two others. (By the way I swapped out Ginn for Camarillo on my fantasy team a few weeks ago). I fully expect you guys to give the Pats a run for the crown in your division later in the season, (creaming the Jets again goes without saying). We’ll give you some help and give em a loss when they visit in a few weeks.
I must say that I was very impressed with Ricky; I still wasn’t sold on him after his melt down when he left us. And Henne should round out nicely, but he’s just a pup still.
Hang in there and we may see you again in Feb, same place bigger game.

sit those 2 down and let’s see how Davis and Smith man the fort at the CB position and let Clemons show what he can do as Wilson’s replacement. We need better coverage of the RBs and the TEs on pass plays. 3 games lost because of the TEs catching balls and piss poor coverage/tackling.

Elite team? No. Good team? Is that even a question? Ofcourse we're good. Seasons not over. We started 2-4 last season too and look what happened.
If you are giving up on this team already than shame on you! That’s why we play 16 games, Not 6. We have kept every game close. We’re the best 2-4 team I’ve ever seen play football. You have to be joking if you think that this is a good thing. Yes, I do think Davis and Smith should have been starting all along. But Will Allen should still been our No.3 CB. First off...
Saints fan here…
Second, Jason Taylor is still a BEAST. He was whooping up on Jermon Bushrod the entire first half. This is the same LT that kept Osi U. in check last week. I was really impressed. I knew JT was good, but he still plays at a PROBOWL level.
Joey Porter was damn good too, but I expected that. He needs to do all the trash talking and take those duties away from Channing Crowder.
Last but certainly not least, Sean Smith will be an all pro corner in the very near future. I was hoping the Saints would go OLB in this draft and pick Smith up in the 2nd. He is a fine DB.
Great game but I dont think my heart can take many more of these kind of games… in the immortal words of Sergeant Roger Murtaugh (aka Danny Glover)… “Im too old for this $hit!”

There are times in my life wheere I have self-doubt, but when this happens, I simply ask myself: What would Don Draper do? So I bone a random whore.

Just because you are in love with Pat White and someone else is not does not make them
Miami bashers. Furthermore Henne has looked better than I think we could have hoped.

I wonder if KC would have done Ginn and White as a bundle? Maybe even put in Nalbone
Head Weatherman/ Injury Specialist of the Phinsider.
What would Don Draper do in the Grocery Store? He wouldn't. She would.
Knowshon Moreno is actually the illegitimate chocolate son of Dan Marino. Its true!!! I have pictures!!!
Bender: Who wants dolphin? Leela: Dolphin? But dolphins are intelligent. Bender: Not this one. He blew all his money on instant lottery tickets.

defense
Is it my imagination? Did we go from a man to man coverage in the first half to a zone in the second? Or did it just look like that with defenders playing off the receivers? How many times did we allow a receiver to run east, west in the flat unchallenged?

Defense...
No the defense didn’t blitz in the 2nd half like they did in the first. This is a problem with coaching. As bad as Wilson was, the secondary always looks bad when there is no pressure on the QB. Ask the coaches, it is baffling the choices made in the second half. Two straight 3 and outs with 6 passes, no runs, just horrid coaching, horrid. Give ’em a touchdown with the timeout before the half.
Everyone says we were still in the game with 3 minutes left. HELLO…..why were were we having to COME BACK after that big a lead??? Crazy.

Saints fan here
Just wanna say thanks for a great ass game I nearly had a heart-attack about 50,000 times watching it though. Want to give a shoutout to all you Phins fans, way classier than the three NY team fans and give you two little snippets I picked up from the game. You guys are WAY better than your 2-4 record and in the second half the reason you abandoned the run is because of one man…Jonathon Vilma. He single-handedly decided to watch the ball carrier and only the ball carrier to stop the wildcat. There aren’t many other Vilma’s out there that can make that adjustment at half-time so you guys are still gonna run all over most teams out there. Sorry about Ginn he had way too many drops (2 for 8 I think?) and Hartline is someone you should watchout for, breakin tackles, making catches he will be a force by the end of the year mark my words. Good luck to your Boyz for the rest of the season hope to see you again in miami at the end of it
