Trade deadline has come and gone very quietly
Use this thread now to discuss any rumors/trades. But it is now after 4 pm eastern and the deadline has passed. There is a chance that a deal was struck between teams but just hasn't been announced publicly yet. However, like I said all along, I doubt the Dolphins are involved.
One move that was made was Rams LB Will Witherspoon being traded to the Eagles for a 5th round pick.

I see teams 6-0 or 5-1 trading, but not 2-3. We should always have the confidence to turn it around, but things could also go wrong (injuries for example) and those draft picks end up being much higher due to a bad record.

I asked my Saints friend
where he would rank us before I told him what ESPN ranked us, and he said 4th. This is after we were arguing back and forth about the upcoming game… I have to admit, I didn’t expect to get that kind of respect. I expected between 8-10, but the man said 4th.

yeah I don’t know how to rank us. I do not think The Wildcat can be stopped, but Henne still needs to take 40 snaps a game, so until I know he is as elite as his stats suggest I won’t try to place us. Our D is too sketchy too, but so long as we score on every drive our defense won’t matter.

… no offense intended..! I was in a jovial mood last night, and just about everything seemed funny to me. I don’t know why, but the “what to do” questions on the Madden game just seemed funny to me… Idk, maybe the alcohol had something to do with it, or I’m just an idiot.
… I’ve been hunting with my boys the past three – four days, and so I’m limited to time and being on the Phinsider. We didn’t go out last night so I stopped by here. You’ve been kinda hit and miss too. School or somethin?
… Anyways, a long answer. Sorry. There also seems to be a butt load of postings lately. Not complaining, just saying there’s a lot to read and commenting has become a choice…. like which ones do I want to say something on. Some are just great to read, and I couldn’t say anything better.

Sawp QB’s CH for PW Swap FB PCobbs for RW go to PA FB sweep it will send RW in motion then it will to all WR’s to the Left except Ginn he will go deep and RBrown will sit there and protect PW in the pocket also if you pass to ginn he will get you 30+ yds. and a TD or check it down to RW if shit fails run with PW he’ll gain you 40+ yds. it’s a BIG MONEY play i allways win with that Play if needed

However you canot call an audible or hot rout out of the WC on the 360.

I think they should rotate joey and wake , wake was awsome against buffalo, he’s hungry and brees is on the menu !! ginn finally has someone to send him the airmail let’s see if he ’s worth the money, and lets not forget hartline who was brought in to help in the deep ball threat.If we can stretch the defense, the wildcat will eat them up,fasano,and cammy in the middle, getting the all impotant 3r d and shorts, ginn and hartline long. If our defense can keep in brees s face we got a real shot at it.
Too bad the Saints defense is almost identical to ours
They tend to give up pass yards, but they have the NFL’s best ballhawk in Darren Sharper, who tends to feast on rookie QBs (which Henne is one in effective experience). Also, that run defense is pretty stout, and the pressure on the QB from the line has gotten better via Remi Ayodele (hilarious Onion piece on him – http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/defensive_tackle_remi)
The Phins have to play for ball control to beat the Saints, because they can score as fast and often as the Colts.

Are you really worried about any run defense?
We have an extra blocker up front and an unbalanced line should we desire… our Rush Offense is unlike any other in the NFL. The Saints will have been preparing for it for only a week, so I still see us putting up 150 yards rushing.

I'm always worried about all aspects of defense
Defense is where games are won and lost, so if they figure out a way of disrupting the run blocking of the Wildcat, I’m very concerned.

where purely defensive teams cannot. If you can’t make the end zone, you can’t win…
I’m just arguing the validity of that saying in general, not your point specifically. I agree, if they find a way to disrupt The Wildcat (or Henning/Sparano have aneurysms and stop running it for no reason), then we’ll be in trouble. I don’t see any way of disrupting The Wildcat without stacking the box, and then you’ll just see more passes out of the formation a la RB or even PW.

considering their Defense put up 7 points, which would only have tied The Giants. Their offense needed to score in order to win ;)
Still, the quote I am arguing is “defense wins games”, not “championships” as is the normal saying. ;)

My point is the Ravens had a shitty offense but when you have a defense the gives you the ball in field goal range 4 times a game its pretty easy for even the worst offense in the NFL to score. Thats pretty much how that whole season went for them. They beat a few teams without scoring a single offensive TD.

The Fins should go sign Joey Galloway, Eric Alexander, and Adalius Thomas (if he gets released too!)
All 3 could really help our team. Alexander would be a nice back-up at ILB and is a great special teamer (both needs). Galloway just couldn’t fit in with the Pats. Maybe he’ll have better luck with us. If it works out than great! If it doesn’t, atleast we didn’t give up any picks for a WR. And he also fills a need. And Thomas would be a huge upgrade over Charlie Anderson who’d be released in a heartbeat if we would pick up Adalius. Yes, I know Matt Roth is on his way back, but you can never have too many good rushers! Plus, he’s better in coverage than Porter and Taylor which has been a problem with all our linebackers….
In my opinion, Matt Roth should get playing time at all linebacker positions including ILB. I think he is versatile enough that he might excell on the inside. What do you guys think?

Ya, obviously you have to do the conversion after the year. But it's just a thought.
He’s have to lose like 10-15 pounds though. I was just talking about putting him on the inside in certain situations. Like goal line when the opposing team trys to run it in….
And actually, last year wasn’t his first year at OLB. He played that position in college in Iowa’s 3-4 scheme. Stupid Nick Saban moved him to DE which almost ruined his career! Last year was his conversion back to LB.

what about the frequent conversion rule?
you have to take that into account as well. if you convert a player twice within two seasons, you must pay him for both positions. part of the CBA.

Ya but the CBA is done after the season.
I’m sure if there ain’t no new CBA, Parcells would take advantage. Plus, it would solve a problem at a position without trading, signing, or drafting anybody. We could focus on other positions like NT, WR, and S. I like Roth alot and I don’t think he would have a problem converting. The transition is not that big anyways.

… and I feel Matt is a little too slow to be a Middle Linebacker. Idk what his speed is, but you need someone with good sideline to sideline coverage speed.

Also, keep in mind, we'd have to get rid of a receiver for Galloway, which would seem foolish
Seeing as all the Phins receivers have four years of experience or less. Youth is key in the skill positions.

Not really. Isn't Lionel Dotson still on the team? What has he do except get paid to watch football?
We can get rid of him without moving a reciever. And he’s everything Ginn should be (or atleast, in his prime Galloway was) and could probably mentor Ginn the way Pennington mentored Henne. I think it would be a great pick- up since we didn’t trade for anyone. We need more weapons for Henne.

Haynos has disappointed me,
I was expecting big things from such a big guy. Does anybody know how his blocking is, specifically in The WC? I’m sure that’s the only thing keeping him on the squad at the moment.

Ya it really is. He's actually a pretty good blocking TE. But that's about all he's worth.
They should just make him gain the extra 20 pounds (which would put him at 300 by the way) and move him to offensive tackle. He’s playing TE so I would think that he would have great footwork. Obviously a switch like that can’t happen this year but it’s definitely something to think about going into next season.
But ya, we need a #2 TE. I miss David Martin. :( And Nalboner sucks! Why is he even still on the team??? Is there not a better option out there?
