Miami Defense Plan v. Saints
Okay, assuming it is not possible to keep the ball away from the Saints offense, here's my plan for stopping the Saints.
Drew Brees is only 6-0 209.
Activate Quentin Moses 6-5 260 and adept and pushing the pocket and batting down passes at the LOS.
Use a Nickel Defense 4-man line of Moses 6-5, Langford 6-6, McDaniel 6-7, and Taylor 6-6.
Even if they may not get to Brees or even on short drops and quick throws, the strategy is to push the pocket, get your hands up and block the passing lanes.
No zone please. Otherwise it will become a New Orleans passing clinic highlight reel.
Man to Man matchups all the way all over the field. If they beat us mano-a-mano, then they deserve to win.
Colston 6-4 225 v. Smith 6-4 214 all over the field
Meachem 6-2 210 v. Davis 5-11 203
Moore 5-9 190 v. Will Allen 5-10 196
Henderson 5-11 200 v. Jason Allen 6-1 200
Davis or Jason Allen on Reggie Bush where possible.
Where possible, blitz Nate Jones off the edge.

Decent Plan
I would have just said “pray like we’ve never prayed before”. And no way J. Allen can guard Bush.
"The tradition argument is what has-been's use when they've got nothing left currently to brag about. You can drag out all the numbers you want. Those banners in your stadium don't pass, catch or play defense."

Jason Allen for all of his shortcomings...
can tackle and is pretty athletic. Probably a better matchup against Bush than a real WR…

I like it
The miami dolphins “big set”,
Why not throw a dime package out (since the saints typically like to run sets with 4 wideouts), plus blitzing can get real creative with the dime package.
Personally I like the idea of the big 3 man D line, with 4 corners, 2 safeties (put in culver for wilson on the dime), but for the LB’s I would put in JT and Wake since both have been productive in rushing the passer and decent in coverage (compared to the other LB’s).
With that you can send the LB’s into coverage and bring a CB blitz with the nickle and dime corners. Or send the corners to man coverage and stunt Wake and JT anywhere around the line to rush the passer

meachum
i dont think playing a 5’11 rookie against robert meachum is a very good idea the jets who played us best had the best plan their defensive line got penetration because our starting left tackle was hurt and are second string went down they played alot of deep zone so we ran the ball all over them and they held brees to only 250 passing yards but we ran for something like 175 yards

V. Davis versus Meachem is better than...
Will Allen 5-10 196 v. Meachem 6-2 210
I am in no way suggesting that we shut down Meachem with a 5-11 rookie, but Vontae Davis is a physically gifted CB and a better matchup (lesser of two evils) than Will Allen.
By the way, while you are at it, ask the Jets what we did to their defense…

based on what i've seen of the pass defense this year
onside every kickoff and use all four downs…. wear the heck out of the saints defense….
but on a more serious note put bench n jones – he can’t cover anyone.
The Future is now, stop the bandwagon and lets get the Henne train rollin, as we all hope that the 14th dwarf is the real prince charming.

Not suggesting Nate Jones can cover...
but he CAN blitz. He injured Brett Farve on a blitz 2 years ago and got some key sacks last year.
For a team in need of some heat off of the edge, he can bring it.
onside every kickoff and use all four downs…. wear the heck out of the saints defense….
I am flattered even by your sarcasm!

okay, it's a crazy idea, but
if the Saints’ Achilles Heel is their special teams, why not exploit it.
No better defense against Brees and company than keeping them on the bench…

Well, we could get Brees arrested on some trumped up charge BEFORE the game. Can't beat us if he is in the pokey.

have all the db’s play back near the endzone
tackle the reciever b4 he scores
make them run it in
hold them to a field goal

their running game
has looked decent, plus their receivers are taller than our corners, I imagine they would still be goal-line pass effective

Man-to-man
It depends on how the WR packages mesh with the TE
but I couldn’t think of a good name to put on him: How about Tyrone Culver, Cam Wake, or Erik Walden?
If they have Davis playing CB on Colston, I wouldn’t mind seeing Smith on Shockey.
But I would like to see Smith on Colston all over the field all game long. Smith looked pretty good jamming Braylon 6-3 Edwards at the LOS.
Just say no to Gibril Wilson, Yeremiah Bell, Akin Ayodele, or Channing Crowder on Shockey.
How about a 4-1-6 or 4-7?
DL: Moses, Langford, McDaniel, Taylor;
LB: Cam Wake or Erik Walden or Jason Allen
DB: Will Allen, Smith, Davis, Culver, Clemons, Jones?
Take our chances with the Saints running game?

Threaten Kitchen-Sink All-Out Run Blitz and back out at the last second and play man-coverage.
