Can the Dolphins really beat the Saints?...hmmmmm

I hate the bye week and most importantly the fact that the New England Patriots have the weakest schedule out of the division. While we have to battle the Saints they have to go against 0-6 Tampa Bay Bucaneers. Aint that some sh.t.  But then you have to ask yourself what can the Doplhins do, to slowdown the Saints? or What can the Dolphins do, to outscore the Saints.

The more i think about it, I keep thinking of the Colts game and how we kept Peyton Manning of the field but when he got on the field we all know what happened.  The Dolphins are going against a offense that have players to give away 2 for 1. Any of the Saints Player 1on 1 is a tough cover( Shockey, Colston, Moore, Meachem, Henderson, Bush, Bell, Thomas) and on Defense are more then capable of  making Henne look like Sanchez looked against Buffalo. Do we have enough personel to adjust to the diverse offense they bring?

Can anyone even come up with a gameplan that would allow for the Dolphins to make this a good game?

Let the dicussion begin!!!

Go Dolphins!!!

To keep Brees from scoring 50 on us we need a fierce pass rush and extremely good play from the secondary. The bad thing is that we don’t have either of those. Ironically, the way to keep Brees from doing that might not be related to him at all.
1- Keep him off the field: Run, run and run
2- Stop the run, make them one dimensional and predictable
3- Bend but not break; force as many field goals as possible instead of TD
4- Take risks on coverage or when rushing the passer to create at least one game changing turnover
5- Aggressive play calling- we need TD not Field Goals like against Indy
6- Unleash Henne; start the game with a hurry up offense and throw the ball aggressively, gain momentum
7- The crowd has to be a big factor, make lots of noise and support.
8- Unleash Pat White. The guy is a baller plain and simple

Good points!

And man I was with you all the way untill I got to number 8.Thats the point where I felt like your awesome directions got me where I wanted to go except for right at the end where I ended up in that ditch upsidedown trying to figure out where my damn cell phone went. I have not seen anything from Pat White to tell me hes part of the path to victory. I guess if somehow, someway the coaches are seeing something in practice that tells them otherwise we might see him. Quite honestly I can not for the life of me figure out what they are doing with him. I would think that if you wanted to toy around with him a bit in a game and see what he can do that you do it at the end of a game that you have pretty much secured. That being said we dont see him at the end of the game with the Bills but against the Jets where the game was still very much on the line. Hell, we were behind. I really do trust the trifecta and have faith that they know a lot more than us but WTF was that all about.

haha yeah that call was really really suspect

First when he dropped back he almost tripped with his own foot (which not only would’ve put the offense in a 3rd and long situation, but would’ve probably marked his fate with the dolphins for 09, and would’ve been hilarious too) and then, after he ran, every reasonable fan was expecting a fumble. He got pounded hard for the first time in his nfl career, if Adrian Peterson fumbles, Pat White could’ve lost an arm.
However, what I meant by that, is that not only can we not give Henne the responsibility to carry the team by himself, but we have to look for the big play anywhere. And that might just be on Pat White’s hands. For instance, that pass against the Falcons in week 1 where he overthrew Ginn. I’d bet some money he makes that pass right now without a problem. And a play like that turns the game up side down.

I know where your coming from. I am all for them bringing him in if he can contribute

in some fashion. I guess where I am coming from, and I know its a small sampling, is that everytime I see him in there something about it scares the shit out of me. He always sort of looks scared and it always looks like a near disaster.

yeah i don't know if we can...

I don’t think we will get a single stop on Defense. The Jets threw 6 ints yesterday (one by a holder) and yet we made Sanchez look amazing, in fact our D hasn’t had a single good game yet.

That's why we play the game...to see who wins or losses.

If we know we’re going to lose, why would we even go to the game.

I can see it now…“Dolphins won’t show up to the game because they know they’ll lost”

It’s why they play football…we are the underdogs and somehow, most underdogs find a way to win.

Here's how it needs to happen...

We have to take the ball first. We lose, plain and simple, if N.O. starts with posession. Miami needs to control the time of possesion with the run, a given. No more Field goal bullshit. If we are in the redzone on Fourth and 5 or less, we HAVE to go for it. Our secondary will never stop Brees. Expect them to score on EVERY possesion We need to score every drive and get the last possession. In my mind, we either win by seven, or go to overtime- and whoever gets the coin first-wins.

i think your getting a bit out of yourself

yes they are the best team in fotball and no we should def not underestimate them, but if we choose to kick we shouldnt to expect to lose. Your right though, we need to convert 6 points rather then 3 (we did very good against the jets at this last week). We can expect them to score or we can pressure Brees and force 3rd downs. Theyre WR’s are better then our DB’s however so were gonna need to step up because i dont expect them running all over us.

If we keep the T.O.P. like we

did against the Colts, I think we can win. They MUST get pressure on Brees in order to keep NO’s offense in check. If we give Brees 3 or 4 seconds to throw, it will be the Colts all over again.

No excuses, put in Wake. JP and JT simply aren’t getting it done. Rotate them and keep Wake in the freaking game with one mission…put Brees on his ass. Only by pressuring their QB will our pass defense be able to handle it. They simply have too many options on offense, Smith and Will Allen need to step it up. And for God’s sake, our LB’s need to stop someone, too. They can’t keep putting everything on our Safety’s shoulders.

speaking of 3 and 4 seconds to throw...

did u see how long Big Ben on his TD to Heath Miller had to throw. Honestly it was like 10 seconds the PIT O-line completely manhnadled the CLE D-line. None of that next week or expect a Giant-like score.

the short answer?

yes, we can beat the saints.

we need to play them like we played the colts, but we need to play tougher on D.

we absolutely can win this game.

by afmo on Oct 19, 2009 11:33 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

yeah right

the only problem with that idea is we aint the colts we are much more you have never faced an offense like this and we have a defense to go with it
the main thing you have going for you is the dolphins have a history of showing up big against undefeated teams at home

by simone219 on Oct 19, 2009 5:03 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

No we can't be great every week

But we do have to be good enough to beat the other team. I posted on the wrong thread keys to beat the Saints— Make the widcat unstoppable by keeping Brees off the field. The Saints are stacked on both sides of the ball with weapons. Plus being healthy across the board. On offense who are you going to double cover? Seven different players score against( in my opinion and over rated Giants Def. ) but seven diff. players scored none the less.Makink double coverage tuff to manage. Defensive mentality is way different from last year. Attack , Attack. Force bad throws 15 take aways so far. Secial teams is a weakness we have to improve on.

Our key to beating Miami is score fast and often early. Hopefully getting the Fin out of thier proven successful game plan. We’ll see Good Luck but not too much Though. :)

Extreme challenges might need extreme measures:

I’m not worried about our offense because I think we can put up points against the Saints. And like with Indy, we’ll control the clock, minimizing Brees’ opportunities. So what do we do on defense to shut Brees down.

1) Bend but don’t break Defense. Though some would prefer putting the pressure on Brees, he’ll be more likely to burn you. Look at how teams used to play Marino. Give up the short stuff and don’t get beat with big plays.
2) Inside the red zone or inside 20, we deploy very aggresive blitz packages, because the big play risk is minimzed.
3) Don’t worry about the outside rush, but keep the pocket clogged with inside stunts. Keep Porter and JT at home to protect the flats and outside sweeps.
4) Consider replacing G Wilson with Vontae Davis…. and playing deep middle.
5) Cameron Wake: If he’s not replacing Porter than have him spell all other LB positions on blitz packages.

and 6) Take some chances… because the field position battle is irrelevant with the Saints…they can move the ball in chunks. I smell a couple 4th down tries, surprise onside kick, deep bombs, that serve like a punt if picked…

This game is reminding me of 1985 when we faced the intimidating Bear’s defense. Can our defense upstage the Saint’s unstoppable offense ????

Don’t forget the NEED to beat the UNDEFEATED…the 72’ Alum will be watching! Let’s get some help from the Chargers tonight! Vikings and Colts can run but they can’t hide…

Great Ideas, but NOT EXTREME ENOUGH

Make Brandon Fields INACTIVE for this game.
We are not punting. No field goals. Field goals = surrender.
We win 59-0 because New Orleans has a Time of Possession of ZERO minutes and ZERO seconds.
Drew Brees’ stat line: 0-0-0 0 yards and 0 TDs.
Spend the week practicing onside kicks, pooch kicks, high-velocity-direct-hit-on-the-return-blocker kicks and fumble recovery with a special onside kicks unit that includes Joey Haynos 6-8, Pat Turner 6-5, Cam Wake 44" vertical, Sean Smith 6-4, Ted 4.29 Ginn, Kory 4.38 Sheets, Chris 4.39 Clemons, Davone great hands Bess, and Greg human vacuum cleaner Camarillo, and Jason 6-6 Taylor. Even if they are expecting the onside kick, there is no defense for a kick bounced high and caught by a 6-5+ player.
On anything 4th and 10 or less, Chad Henne is going for it (so our strategy on Third and Long is just to get close enough to convert the 4th down…most teams will naively allow substantive yardage on third down just to make the stop and force a punt. Not happening with us.
On 4th and more than 10 we have to at least show punt formation. We use Tyler Thigpen as the punter, Chad Henne as the Personal Punt Protector, and Pat White in the slot who goes in motion to the left to take a Wildcat handoff.
Option 1: Chad Henne takes the direct snap and makes a precision throw to a receiver who begins to hook and lateral ala Stanford-Cal game.
Option 2: Thigpen takes the snap, hands off to White who looks to throw, but can also run if room. After White passes the line of scrimmage, he looks to throw a backward lateral to a trailing Thigpen up the right side of the field. Handoffs and Pitches ensue. Practice making “fake fumbles forward” look like real fumbles. Recover the fumble.
Option 3: Thigpen takes the snap, fakes to White and looks to pull a Steve Weatherford as well as throw.
If all options are exhausted, he can try to pull a “Charlie Anderson” and hit a Saint player short with his kick that Miami recovers (hopefully). Last option: kick it as far as he can but out of bounds so there is no return
All of this is preconditioned on Darren Sharper not returning any INTs for TDs and Henne not fumbling in the endzone recovered by Akin Ayodele’s “little” brother Remi.

Abandoned the Draft Sean Smith at #25 Bandwagon to Join the Draft Sean Smith at #61 Bandwagon and get Vontae Davis and Chris Clemons. Trio > me.

Hi from CSC

I think any game is winnable for any team on any given sunday…but i think no one is keying in on the saints poor special teams coverage (punts and kick offs). If the fins can get some points on special teams plays, that would definitely strip the saints of momentum, but the caveat to this approach is that a special teams score will give the ball back to bree and co.

everyone here’s mentioned it and i think that it cannot be overstated… pressure. if you can pressure brees you can keep him off the field and milk the clock some more.

i think miami needs a balanced game…all three phases need to covered and covered well. it should be an exciting game either way. good luck guys.
