NFL Players I can stand/like: Quarterbacks
Due to a request by texascowpunk and IEphinfan23, I have decided to post the opposite of my last post: quarterbacks that I like. So without further ado I give it to you:
So yes Henne makes this list because he is our starting quarterback, no that isn't biased. Wait, maybe but whatever. So of course Chad Pennington would have made this list because he was our starting quarterback until he was injured, but it is what it is now. I'm looking forward to this guy, I really am. I wasn't all too optimistic when Pennington went down but now I'll admit it - I like the guy. I think he has what it takes after only seeing him for 2 full games. I won't jump the gun too much but he could be great, we will have to just wait and see.
Philip Rivers
I know I'm probably going to get a lot of disagreement about this one, like I did for Peyton Manning in the last list but whatever, I like Rivers. The guy is almost like Marino in the respect that he has a great pocket presence and a quick release. And he is like some complete asshole with the way he will talk back to the fans, feud with Culter and the Broncos and yes, that is why I like him. The guy also played with a torn ACL during the 2007 playoffs, what a true sport. You can't dislike a guy like that, well yeah you can but I sure don't. I like them when they are cocky and not crybabies like some other quarterbacks that made it into my last list.
He's short, he doesn't look like a NFL quarterback but he sure as hell plays like one and that is what got Brees on this list. He was faced with the competition of Rivers after Rivers was taken with the first overall pick by the Chargers in the 2004 draft and what did he do? He played like a mad-man, he was awesome and since then and the injury that ended his time with the Chargers: he has only got better. The guy has tied himself into the city of New Orleans and did a great deal in helping with the city after Hurricane Katrina. And something interesting, the Miami Dolphins were actually interested in acquiring him from the Chargers. He rejected us but Cam probably would have made him awful anyway.
Why is McNabb on this list? Because I, for the most part, love watching him play. He has great pocket presence and can be a threat scrambling. The guy had to deal with T.O.'s crazy ass and actually put up with him. He is one of the few professional players of another team that I would actually like to own a jersey of, he is just fun to watch. So I have few reasons but yeah, I'm a McNabb fan and I'm pulling for one day that he might just make it into the HOF.
In 2005 Carson Palmer led the Bengals to their first winning season since 1990, and even made it to the playoffs. They playoff game vs the Steelers probably wasn't what Palmer was hoping for when he tore his ACL and MCL. They called his injury potentially career ending but Palmer came back from it. The end of the 2008 season brought another injury to Palmer, that time to his elbow. He just kept coming back and this season he is starting to play like he is fully recovered. The guy has been riddled with injury but is still finding a way to come back from them, that is a true warrior in my opinion. He reminds me of Chad Pennington in that respect. So that is why Palmer makes this list, another guy who I would own his jersey if he wasn't in the AFC.
What is not to like about Sanchez? He is going to be the face of the New York Jets for years to come, so much to the point where he has became known as "Sanchise." Get it? Like Franchise and Sanchez combined? So creative. He is mexican, sexy, and probably the best quarterback in the history of the NFL, already. 5 picks vs. the Bills? Rookie mistake, he is still learning so not a biggie at all. I mean it isn't like the Bills don't have the best secondary in the NFL. I'm probably going to go out and buy a jersey of his, too. I just think he is going to be the next Joe Namath, and as we all know: Broadway Joe was probably the best quarterback in the history of the NFL.
Just a not regarding the last one: that was a complete joke. I know any Jets fans that see this will actually think that is serious, but please don't stoop to that level.
So on to my honorable mentions for this section:
Brett Favre: Why do I like Favre? Easy answer, he has been in the NFL since the year I was born. He has played strait through since then and I admire that. He is the Iron-Man. I probably could say so much more about him but he didn't make my big section, he is just in the honorable mention so I'll leave it at that.
Kurt Warner: Went from bagging groceries to winning a Super Bowl, he is a happy story so makes it in here.
Matt Schaub: He is my fantasy football quarterback and just makes it in here for that reason.
David Garrard: Why? Because TheTealDeal is so nice to us over here so I thought I'd put his quarterback on here.
Well that's all she wrote for this one, I hope you enjoyed.
Questions, comments, concerns, etc. Have at it.

I like rivers cause he's catholic

Now I know ....
why your opinion of Namath is so ill-informed -— you were born the year Favre got his start in the NFL. You obviously don’t have a clue as to why Namath was considered a great QB by his peers and the fans from that era.
That said ….. I do appreciate your joke re: Sanchez. What an overhyped, mediocre QB he is. Dolphin fans should be grateful every day that the Jets are owned by the cheapskate, imbecile “Woody” who thinks the latest marketing ploy (last year’s acquistion of Favre being Exhibit A and moving up in the draft to select Sanchez being Exhibit B) can also pass for a sound football decision.
Sanchez has a chance at being slightly better than Brady Quinn …….. period!
by Jeff I on Oct 20, 2009 5:48 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
but the post about Namath that was linked was very informative
I also wasn’t alive when the ‘72 Dolphins had a perfect season but I can still be informed about it. You do have a point though because I wasn’t alive during that time I don’t understand, but I understand well enough.
On Sanchez though, I’m glad you enjoyed it, being a Jets fan and enjoying it says something. So thanks. And I think Sanchez is the next Derek Anderson, well maybe not that bad.
