Just reading the comments under one of Matty's latest articles. Fine work Matty, fine work . While reading I saw a post that Pennington, after 1 season, was a top 5 or top 10 favorite Dolphin. I have listed 15 others that I would put ahead of Pennington. Yes, he doesn't even make my top 15, maybe not top 20 for these came off just the top of my head. They are as follows:
1) Dan Marino
2) Ronnie Brown
3) Jason Taylor
4) Zach Thomas
5) Larry Csonka
6) Mark Duper
7) Bob Griese
8) Ricky Williams
9) Larry Little
10) OJ McDuffie
11) Mercury Morris
12) Sam Madison
13) Patrick Sutain
14) Richmond Webb
15) Reggie Roby
These are random order (except Marino). No disrespect to any other Dolphins greats. Upon request, I'd like to thank joel311 and Matty I for the inspiration for this post.-)

hmmm....
I think for more younger Dolphin fans (aka those who became fans during the Marino era) – we probably don’t have Griese, Csonka, etc… ranked as high as we should.
For me, it would go:
Marino is #1.
Then #s 2 through 5 in no particular order: Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor, Ronnie Brown, and then _________________
And in that blank, I would consider guys like Mark Duper, Ricky Williams, OJ McDuffie, Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain, and Chad Pennington.
So CP is in my top 10 somewhere – not sure if he cracks top 5.

but keep in mind i'm only in my mid 20s
so I think age has a lot to do with it.
But CP also help engineer the single most enjoyable season of my lifetime – so that helps boost him, too.
Bu “single most enjoyable” – I mean I had no expectations after a 1 win season and then we won the division – by having CP beat the Jets in NY, no less.

I was in Denver a few weeks ago
and we were in a bar one night and there was a Dolphins/Chargers game from about the late 80s/early 90s. It was on a huge screen and was digitally restored and was in damn near HD. Marino was amazing. I’m only 25, so I vaguely remember him playing and even then it was the mid to late 90s. I’m jealous of all you 35+ people.

I can understand that...

Watch some film. Cox was not as strong as Offerdahl at point of contact…Cox was more elusive and a better blitzer but not on the inside. Zach could do everything well but not great. He was a great tackler and underrated as a pass defender. Zach’s responsibilities were a little different in the middle because the two 2-gap DTs primary job was to keep people off of the undersized Thomas…
Johnny O was a beast against any fullback and any lineman, which he frequently manned up against guards. So on the inside Offerdahl was a rock and as good a tackler as Zach… Cox was a fair tackler…it was either big hit or big wiff..
Offerdahl is highly underated and was overshadowed by the more popular: Speilman, Conlan, Mechlenberg, Singletary, Pepper J, Seau, Wilbur Marshall, Sam Mills.. and yet managed to get Probowl nods with them, even with some average Miami teams.

Offerdahl was the most physically gifted.
Thomas was the playmaker.
Cox was the motivator.

off of nearly ever fans list. Hey guys hes only the BEST center to EVER play the game. EVER! He was responsible for helping keep Marino clean and upright for a long time. Somewhere theres a clip where he has one guy by the jersey with one hand and another guy with the other hand and a guy sandwiched inbetween the two. Its one of those things you have to see for yourself to belive that its real.

I disagree that CP10 will be forgotten. 1-15 to 11-5 will not be forgotten, neither will the QB that got us there.
IF, and yes it is still a big if, Henne turns out to be The Man, CP10 will also be remembered as the player/coach that taught Henne those things he needed to learn, rather than getting thrown into it last year. Just think, Henne could be 13-0 in his first 13 NFL starts! Has anyone done that?

I think your top five is accurate
I don’t see any reason to change the top 5, but Mercury should be at number six, followed by Griese. Then pennington at 9 after Ricky at 8.
I think Pennington is an all-time great Dolphin, not because he was a career Dolphin or even spent a lot of time here, but because he brought us HOPE after a decade of nope, dope, choke, and broke. I think Pennington has ushered in a decade or more of dominance, like we’ve always had before this lame ass past ten years.

about the Paige button hook is that it’s a jumping catch each and every time. Regardless of whether the play was picked or not.

Top 10 All Time Dolphins and Top 10 All Time FAVORITE Dolphins are two different things. When I first read this post, I read it as All Time Dolphins. The second time, I realized it was All-Time FAVORITE. I can see how poeple would want CP10 in their Top 10 Favorites. Especially if they are young’ens.

Seau is a bit different.
The guy was total greatness in his day and he just cant give up the game. Hes at a point where no one else will have him when he cant let go. Welker is quite different. If he were a FA there would be at least 20 teams lining up to see what it was going to take to sign the guy.

And Welker went to the Pats because they made him an offer that we couldn't match.
He was a RFA, and the Pats made an offer we couldn’t match. I can’t blame the guy for so, instead of losing him for (relatively) nothing, the DOlphins and Pats agreed to a trade where we got two draft picks.
And, technically, I don’t think the Pats ever signed Welker to a offer sheet. I think they just threatened to do it. So Welker literally did nothing but get traded from us to them.
How can you hate a guy for getting traded?

X - remember CP10 was picked up to do exactly what he did. Change the team mentality from losing to winning.
He was to mentor CH while playing well week in and week out.
You can hate on the system that thought he was necessary last year, but don’t hate the man who simply did what was asked of him.

CP10 makes my top 10
not from a pure talent perspective, or a longevity perspective, but for the complete change in mental outlook he instilled in Dolphin fans everywhere. There have been many others who have had much more talent and played longer, but few who can be given so much credit for changing fans’ expectations so drastically within such a short time. Add to the fact he KNEW he was destined to be replaced next year (which injury turned into THIS year)- he gave everything he had to the cause of winning football, and exuded nothing but the utmost of class in doing so, without appearing to be full of himself. The way he carries himself is the way I would hope my children carry themselves as they grow up into whatever endeavor they choose. Therefore, his one year+ of service weigh more heavily than others who contributed for much longer periods of time. Definitely top 10 for me.

Why is everyone so quick to point to CP10 for our 1-15 to 11-5 turnaround?
Has everyone forgotten the guy who brought CP10 to Miami, a guy by the name of Bill Parcells? Don’t get me wrong, I’’m not saying CP10 had nothing to do with it, but I think he gets too much of the credit.
