Ted Ginn...

I never see anyone give a legit explanation on why ted ginn is not a good NFL player.  Thank you Teddy for making that catch on Monday night, it was a huge play and im glad that you were able to perform.  Going into the Monday night game i expected absolutely NOTHING from ted ginn, that way, when he actually does something it is simply an added bonus to my dolphins perception.  Here is why Ted Ginn is not a reliable NFL player: He catches the ball with his chest every single time the ball is coming his way.  This is what some would call "what not to do."  Ted Ginn never claimed to be a posession Wide Reciever but either way in some instances any WR in the NFL has to use his hands to make a grab.  How many of you thought he was going to catch the ball on Monday?  Henne literally had to drop it right into the area between his arms and chest and the ball still fluttered around in that area before he crossed the goal line.  The surprising thing to me is that people don't actually notice this / try to fix it.  His athletic career is completely based on his speed and football pedigree.  He needs to learn how to catch the ball with his hands.  How often do you see Randy Moss, Fitz, Boldin, Johnson or Marshall catch the ball with their chest when they could have caught the ball with their hands?  Never?  Maybe Ted Ginn has the speed and the dedication to being a good Wideout but i think its time for him to re-think his strategy, catch the ball with your hands not your chest.

Am I the only one that notices this?  Also, let me put it out there Ronnie Brown is a top 3 NFL Runningback if not top 2.

I like Ted Ginn and I like him even more after Monday night.

He was crucial in our win vs the Jets last year to win the AFC East.

Don't question my fandominium.

I was at the game (i live in NY)

the point of my post wasn’t to say he is terrible it was to say that he needs to use his hands and not his chest to catch the ball

Your correct. You CAN NOT make the difficult catch if you cant catch with your hands

away from your body. It just is what it is.

And lets face it

Randy Mos makes some spectacular catches, although his problem is speed and evasion. Yards after carry are dismal.

Yeah, Its ok for what it is.

I worked disaster relief for about 2 years. When I was in Key West for about 6 months my boss would take us there like 3 or 4 times a week. We never really complained because he was paying but it got old all the same.

Here it comes

We have seen this every year the yay or nay of Teddy Ginn. I will have to agree a little with you point before I argue it. Ginn does not have the hands that other WR is the league or on the Dolphins have. After watching him through the years Ginn drops the ball more times then fans would like him too, but its not because he is a chest catcher, he drops them trying to catch with his hands as well.

As a WR, you ultimately try to catch the ball with your hands, however you catch it which ever way you can. So on MNF the ball was put in his bread basket, he catches it on the chest, instead of stretching his hands and slowing down and catching with his hands. If a ball is too high WR try one hand, if its low and there is a defender all over you you catch aginst your stomach.

Bottom line is Ginnd does drop balls.

Now the argument

Ted Ginn is not bad WR or not a productive WR because he catches the ball with his chest, it is for other reasons. Now I am not saying Ginn stinks and is not good, I am saying he has not had the support around him to help him be a consistent productive WR.
Lets start off with his Pros: Speed (helps him in and out of breaks, and to get down field) Acceletation, Vision. Cons: Hands, height (no fault to his athletic ability, genetics) experience. What he has improved on: His route running.

Now Steve Smith, Torry Holt to name a few are Ginns size, but they have been super productive b/c of their hands, speed, quickness and route running. For a player like Ginn he lacks superior quickness to be open underneath, so he depends on his speed to get open .

Ginn also has never had a QB to throw him the ball deep or the arm strength to hit him on out routes. He also has been the only WR to demand extra attention from the defense, with out another gamer on the other side, teams get slide coverage to Ginn.

With all that said Ginn can be a good WR, I think with Henne in he gets close to 800 yds with 5 rec TD this season. The Fins won’t pass to much as we have seen with R&R running the ball, but that sets up deep plays to Ginn on PA.

Is he the complete WR that Andre Johnson and Fitz and Boldin and Marshall are NO, but he has the ability to be good especially if a QB like Henne is throwing the ball to him, and if the Fins ever get another play maker on the other side to demand coverage. But by no means is he not productive cause he catches with his chest

Ginn Should Take Over For Cobbs

With the unfortunate news that Cobbs will be out for the season, the Dolphins should let Teddy return kicks on a regular basis. If they do, I bet he’ll take at least one and maybe two back for TD’s over the rest of the season.

he actually secured the td catch well

however that first down he picked up where he was running laterally across the field is another story. He stopped the ball, and bobbled the hell out of it. If Revis had gotten there half a second earlier, he drops it no question. He did the same thing though, he let the ball go all in the way into his chest before really securing it. good points, tired subject.

why do you praise him and bash Ginn in the same post? :)

That was one pass where he turned to look at the defender and it hit him in the chest.

Yes that was a mistake by Brown but he rarely makes a mistake like that so thats why he gets a pass. Also his primary duties are not to catch the ball. Thats all we ask Ginn to do. Thats it! One thing!

well...

Ronnie Brown gets paid to run the ball and make the occasional catch out of the backfield whereas Ted Ginn is paid to catch the ball. Honestly, im not so sure that Ronnie Brown doesn’t have better hands than Ginn, he had 1 bad drop and thats the onyl time I have ever seen him drop anything. I think that Brown may become more involved in the passing game actually but in the flats. I think Williams is better suited for the screen pass for some reason.

by DRoyce on Oct 15, 2009 8:20 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Right! The pass Brown dropped was because he turned his head to see where the defender

was. Its a mistake that he would admit and knowing Ronnie and the type of professional he is he wont make it again.
