WR next YR Fins what do we do?

Ok now our 3 Wr's right now Teddy Ginn, Bess,Camarillo. now in Dolphin land we all would agree that we need another Wr who should we get. I looked at the Free agent list and the top two Wr are good but. T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Bobby Engram... and they are good Wr's but TJ is 32 years old and he wants' a lot of money and you know the big Tuna and company won't spend the cash for him and Engram is not a true number 1 wr at this point. now I know what everyone wants and everyone is saying Anquan Boldin. but he is not a free agent and we are not sure anymore if he wants out of AZ and they would want a lot for him in a trade and I don't think that they would give up top draft picks for anyone they want too do it in the draft this year and year's too come. so who do we get? the Fish are going too pick I think number 26. and a lot of mock drafts are saying they are going too take Percy Harvin* I know what everyone is going too say he is to small and he is like Ginn and we need a bigger Wr and we already have Teddy. and that is all true. but with that being said we do need a bigger Wr and they will get a bigger Wr.... but if he is there and from what he did in the game last night I feel you have too take him. and he is a lot bigger then Teddy. Harvin and Ginn on the outside and both of the with there speed... and Bess, Camarillo in the slots could be a pretty-good thing next year for Chad to toss around the rock. let me know what you as Dolfans think?  don't worry I know everyone is going too say we need OL DL Linebacker DB but we will get them these guy's know what they are doing.

If we draft Harvin

I will cry. Wide Receiver is a need, but not worth spending a number one on. The only way I think that we could pick a WR first round is if by some freak occurrence Crabtree falls to us ala Brady Quinn. But I don’t see that happening. Defense first round. I think that there will be plenty of chances to find a good receiver in later rounds at a better value then Harvin. Just look at the Saints and Marques Colston who was a late second day (7th round? I think) pick…

PS

I wouldn’t mind TJ, depending on how much he is asking…

by thatzakkid on Jan 9, 2009 11:37 AM EST up reply actions

I as well...

He is not the type of receiver we need, We need one like Heyward-Bey or Britt. The ones that are big and physical. And they will possibly be there in the 2nd round.

we said the same thing last year

and we did not draft a Wr… and look at Eddie Royal, what I am saying that we can still get a big Wr and get other players that we need like DB DL maybe another big TE we need that. Linebacker, and OL… just think we did not draft one WR last year and we where lucky too get Bess last year where very lucky that know one drafted him…. but I understand whatever one is saying about -Harvin… but I think we, can take the shot

But notice..

He also had Brandon Marshall there. Which means you can’t double team Royal. So his quickness helped him get past the DB’s.

and on TJ

he is a good WR but he is 32 and the money that he wants will be way too much for us too spend on him and even if they work the money thing with him he is still too old

Look at Matty's post: 3rd and Long.

No one on our roster can dominate a 3rd and 6 pattern. No one can get separation today and no one, Ginn, Bess, and Camarillo will in the future. There not made that way. They are all good 2nd or 3rd read guys who can scramble around on thrid down until they get open. What we desperatly need, and Matty’s article convinced me is a true stud- If we commit to CP10 for next year, then we need to find him in the draft cause TJ is not even that guy, nor is anyone else slated in FA. If you saw my post- Tuna Recipe, you could anticipate Bill grabbing another need in RD 1 and stockpiling WRs later…

3rd and 6 folks- we need a guy who can get 3rd and 6 !!!!!! No more gimmick plays, no backs out of the backfield - 3rd and 6 curls, outs, slants, comebacks… we need defenses to try and stop us- roll coverage- double team… Chad’s good enough to pick teams apart if they commit – BUT WE HAVE NO STUD and Chad remains a sitting duck.
3rd and 6!!!! PLease God, no more swing passes to the running back!!
3rd and 6!!!!!!!!!!

i think we need to draft

an OLB/DB in the first round, i real difference maker. With one of our two second round picks we will take a WR, Im really liking Britt out of Rugters but we will see when the draft gets closer

I don't need too look at Matty

post I understand what you are saying and what Matty is saying we, just need more playmakers… so however they do it…. they need too get more players that can make plays on both-side of the ball… I was just talking about who can we get in draft at the WR spot.

I hear ya..

I’m not talking about a playmaker. so to speak. I’m talking about a true #1 WR. Good #1 that deserve double teams and roll-overs that allow for guys like Ginn to become the playmakers vs single coverage or guys like bess to get open in mis-matches. We have no one to command that attention. And CP10 doesn’t need one, cause we pamper the offense to his needs. We can only go so far with CP without a true #1 and I feel we are tapped out without one. When Henne or anyone else is ready, they won’t have the decision making ability as CP10 and will need to rely on a true #1 who, on 3rd and 6, can dig out a hard 10yd curl and fend off the chuck at the line of scrimage.

I wasn’t trying to “put you down” if that the way I came off, I only meant to make a string point for why a true #1 WR is Very important now. Our passing success this year has more to do with the system, and less to do with our talent at WR. That system only goes as far a Chad, and we are seeing the best it can offer.

WR not a huge problem

I don’t think this is a big problem for us. We have bigger issues right now. I don’t want to waste even a 3rd round draft pick ala Derek Hagan or even get a FA ala Ernest Wilford. We have been able to pick up solid WR like Camarillo and Bess through other means, I even like Brandon London’s size and possible playmaking ability. This offseason will be the first time for this young group to work on things together with a REAL QB like Pennington so I can see that improving this unit as a group. Plus weren’t we saying the same thing last year and I think we did alright this season with what we had … remember we were 11-5

masaqui

or however you spell it. the receiver out of Georgia. I saw he is a projected 3rd or 4th round pick and I’ve seen some mock drafts where we grab him. he’s 6’2 1/2" 210. Not bad. Plus he played in a “pro-style” offense with a “pro-style” QB. hmmmm

by fishstick on Jan 9, 2009 3:14 PM EST reply actions

i saw we go

Defense first and second round, and then go WR in third….Mohamed Massaquoi possibly like Fishsticks pointed out earlier…“Massaquoi is a competitive receiver with good size and skill. He gets a good release off the line, runs solid routes and shows great awareness coming back to the ball. He doesn’t possess elite speed, but he’s able to get vertical and adjust well to deep balls. He has soft hands and doesn’t allow many balls to get in on him. He makes defenders miss in the open field and picks up extra yards with his shifty running style. – Chris Steuber, Scout.com” they list his strengths "competitiveness, hands and concentration, and route-running skills…his weanesses are elusiveness and speed…..overall i like this guy for his size, which we need, we dont need him to be overly fast and shifty as we have that with Ginn and Bess…i think he will be a great pickup for us especially in the redzone….

after Wilford is cut

my prediction is we sign Devery Henderson as a FA. He’s got big play potential, good yac’s and is young. He’s small but fast and has the ability to get open. He’ll fit.

what do you mean? we HAVE OUR GUY.. Ernest Wilford is going to have a BREAK OUT YEAR next year! HAHAHA

yeah right.. he best be gone soon.. SIZE, SIZE, SIZE…not overally concerned who it is.. as long as he is top tier or close to it and is BIG! That’s the need.. no questions asked… so let’s hope they fill it!

by dolphinsfan4life on Jan 9, 2009 5:51 PM EST reply actions

well, sometimes speed and the ability to get open can beat size

see a certain WR named Smith playing for Carolina. Henderson is 5’11, so no, he’s not BIG nor does he have SIZE SIZE SIZE…..but he has breakaway speed and can get open. Something our WR’s have a problem with. Tired of playing the short game. We need to extend the field and make the defenses worry about us instead of playing small ball and worrying about them. I don’t have a crystal ball, but this guy to me, fits what Parcells and Ireland would spend money on.

We have 2 POSSIBLE solutions on the roster right now.

David Martin loses weight and becomes the big possession WR.

OR

Brandon London develops into the big possession WR.

And I think we’ll look to day 2 of the draft to pick a WR up. We were looking at Mario Urrutia from Louisville last year, but it didn’t happen. He’s a huge guy, 6’6 232, and I think we’ll look to find a guy like that in the later rounds, and develop him into what we need.

Patrick Turner, USC – 6’5 224
Jaison Williams, Oregon – 6’5 240
Nate Swift, Nebraska – 6’2 200
Darius Passmore, Marshall – 6’1 190
Those are all guys projected as 4th round or later that we may take a look at. Of that group, Turner is the most impressive as far as numbers and pedigree, but Swift may be the best WR of the group, although he is 3 inches shorter than Turner.

as much as I'd love to have a Husker on the roster

I highly doubt Swift will be looked at. He’s another posession receiver like Camarillo and Bess who we already have, and already have signed. Via the draft, we need someone to challenge for a #1or #2 spot WR, if we go FA to solve these problems to compliment what we have, or what we will have, see my above post.

could be

That’s why I think the likeliest of that group to end up in Miami is Patrick Turner. He has a huge frame, and has shown some big play ability in college. He reminds me a bit of Keyshawn Johnson, but not as polished coming out.

how are you going to contain yourself until April?

lol. You, or one of us, will have to have a “Top 5 Picks Poll” Post for each position before the draft. Be interesting to see who we all think we’ll take and what actually happens. Just curious….do you comb your hair like Kiper as well?

Here is the Deal

my Dolfans we just need too get better at Wr TE, DB OL DL and we need another two linebackers… but we are on the right path… so let’s just see what they are going too do and lets just get better and we will… I am very happy where we are going with the Tony and the Big Tuna… we are really close and I am sure that they will get the spots that we need….
