10 Mock drafts - your POLL

Yeah I know, this sucks, the black dark abyss of the soul. Well to get you through this month long midnight I have a distraction. Some Mock Drafts. And yeah, they are here to be mocked, derided, spat at and hell, even agreed upon. I’m not here to offer my suggestion, because I have no idea which is what draws me, fatally, to these sites.

Love or hate, register your opinion.

About Football

Brian Cushing, OLB USC
Team Needs: OLB CB S WR
With Joey Porter playing well this year, outside linebacker isn't a huge need, but he will be 32 in 2009, and Bill Parcells loves impact linebackers. So I wouldn't be surprised if he looks for one to build his defense around.

23 Nov 08

New Draft

Terrence Cody, DT, Bama

Whatever Parcels decides to do in the 2009 NFL Draft I will agree with I am just guessing. Terrence Cody is HUGE and I think he will be a big run stopping influence immediately.

4 Jan 09

Walter Football

Victor Harris, CB, Virginia Tech

Miami has gotten better against the pass recently. In fact, prior to the Chiefs game, they hadn't given up a touchdown in three weeks. But that doesn't mean that the Dolphins don't need an upgrade at corner; they still rank 19th versus opposing aerial strikes. Victor Harris would be an excellent upgrade for a secondary that needs help everywhere.

31 Dec 08

Football Expert

Brian Cushing, OLB, USC
Since August, I have pegged the Dolphins with either ILB Laurinaitis or Maualuga, but with the phenomenal season the Dolphins have had, there is no way either will be available at pick 26, so the Dolphins take Maualuga in Brian Cushing.  Cushing is the perfect 3-4 OLB, as he has played both DE and OLB for the Trojans.  The Dolphins would love to upgrade its defensive backfield, but Cushing is far better value for now.

31 Dec 08

NFL Draft Dog

Greg Hardy, DE/OLB, Mississippi (JR)

Hardy (6' 4" 264 lbs) was injured early and only played in 8 games this season, but still managed an 9.5 TFLs and 8.5 sacks. Reminds me of the Cowboy's DeMarcus Ware.

3 Jan 09

Draft King

William Moore, FS, Missouri
The emergence of USC FS Taylor Mays as a potential NFL prospect has bumped Moore down a bit in his draft projection spot, though keep in mind that Mays could opt to return to Los Angeles for his senior year at USC. If that happens, at least in theory William Moore would move up the board.

The Dolphins used a first rounder on Tennessee DB Jason Allen in 2006, but to date that hasn't particularly panned out -- plus it was a move made by a previous administration. Bill Parcells and his crew are very sharp, and I could see them snatching up Moore and developing him into a solid NFL talent.

4 Jan 09

FF Toolbox

 Vontae Davis, S, Illinois
What a turn around Bill Parcells and company have done with a 1-15 Dolphin team. Despite the impressive 2008 showing, this team has a lot of needs. An impact WR, a couple of LBs and a ball hawk S. They will solve the later with the selection of the ultra talented Davis. A college corner, Davis will play FS in the NFL. There's a question about his maturity, but Parcells has a track record of changing minds and attitudes.

16 Dec 08

Consensus Draft

Brian Orakpo (DE, Texas)

Orakpo is one of those draft enigmas -- you never quite know where he's going to end up. That of course is what entices Bill Parcells into picking him, knowing that Orakpo could be the best pure pass rusher in this draft

6 Jan 09

Football’s Future

Brian Cushing, LB, USC
Cushing is an all around linebacker that could help out in a variety of roles for the Phins next year. His main role would likely be as an edge rusher where he has a lot of potential, but he also has the ability to move inside and be a presence there. The talent, attitude, and versatility will make him a Parcells favorite.

12 Dec 08

Scout

BJ Raji DT

The Dolphins will most likely use this pick to upgrade their defence. With the top linebackers being off the board, Miami turns to Raji to bolster the D-line.

Brian Cushing Hands Down

Best Player available but I doubt he will be there because I can see him having a great combine. Fits a need as we need another rushing linebacker to compliment Porter … as he said when JT was with the team you will have to “pick your poison” .. our pass D will improve with the improved pass rush. We got beat by the Pats, Texans, Cardinals and almost loss to the Cheifs due to the fact we couldn’t get enough of a pass rush.

yup

Cushing is not an afterthought. Maybe in the national media, because he plays alongside Mauluga, but then you could say the same about Britt, because ESPN hasn’t said ONE WORD about the guy.

I understand you like him, but don’t put him up on a pedestal and disregard every other prospect..

lol

I’m a bandwagon free agent right now. Make a case for why I should be on the Kenny Britt bandwagon and not the Brian Cushing bandwagon.

The question is what are our needs

and who will get down to us in our low drafting position…
I think DT is a huge need to spell ferguson and eventually replace him
But I was hoping for a good inside LB or defensive back.

We don’t need another QB (for once) and I think given the quality we have on the OL and the fact that we seem to be able to get quality WR who are undrafted then I think the defence needs a bit of a look at.
I voted for Cushing as he seems to fit the right need at this slot.

I think ferg can go one more year

without much problem. pick up a backup DT in FA

go for cushing. I dont know much about the college game though

by kazam92 on Jan 6, 2009 6:21 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

If I remember

he was hurt last year, and missed some time this year as well. He’s going on 36 years old. When exactly do you want to find a replacement for the most important position in a 3-4 defense? When it’s too late? It has to be in the top 3 of priorities this offseason, because without one, you don’t stop anybody.

And you can’t wait until you absolutely need one to then try and find one. Get one now, and then work him in with Ferguson starting NEXT SEASON.

NT in 3-4 ... later rounds

I don’t really remember NT going in the first round .. wasn’t Ferguson a 7th rounder ??? I think we might be better off getting someone in the later rounds (3rd-7th) the talent level isn’t a huge dropoff. We still have Solai and Lionel Dotson .. all though neither got much playing time this year I wonder what an offseason will do.

by markus_13 on Jan 7, 2009 12:20 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Round 3-4 is a good area for one

I was more concerned with waiting another year for one. We absolutely have to come out of the draft with a starting caliber NT though..

Well look at the Patriots

They got their NT in the 1st round with Vince Wilfork. He sets the tone for that defense. Another 1st round NT? Look at our great friends the Baltimore Ravens with Haloti Ngata. I would not have any problem with taking a NT with our first round pick.

Yes I know there are many teams that have taken their big man with later picks, but if our FO were to take one in the first, I would feel pretty confident with their choice. They know big linemen.

Why are

all these guys defensive, do none of these mock drafters think we should take a WR with our top pick?? i think we should, either Crab, Maclin if somehow they r still there, or dare i say Britt, or even Percy Harvin……….

yea

i wasnt thinking when i said that…upon further review the call on the field is overturned, the Miami Dolphins do indeed need to pick a Defensive player with their top pick, lol

Anyone who picked Cushing-

I was on the same page with you – but in my preliminary research I have changed my vote.

BPA may be the best option

Vontae Davis would be a great pick IMO

I don't think we can afford to take

Best Available unless he fits an immediate need. For instance, if the best available player is a 3-4 DE, say, Tyson Jackson, we need to pass him up and go for a need position. But if the best available player is a NT, then we should jump on him because it’s one of our biggest needs.

The draft is all about figuring out need vs value. You want to get the best value at that draft slot, and fill one of your big needs at the same time.

Very True

True that, I mean we still have a few needs. But as far as BPA I think if Bill has someone he wants but they are not worth the draft he may pull off a move like he has done before with Dallas. letting the picking pass and letting the next team go, and scooping up what he wants later for a cheaper price, not to mention I am sure that there maybe a team out there that would be willing to trade up a slot or two or three or four.
