Peppers wants to play in Miami?

will he fit our defense? He’s talented, but can he cover a tight end or RB?

I’m kind of on the same page as you are. I’d love to have him, but, not at a huge cost. I wonder about his pass coverage ability in the 3-4 and if he gets the big check, how will that effect his “motor”. That all being said, he’s a huge talent when he’s on. And, he would help out the defense quite a bit with the pass rush. Also, you’d have every QB in the AFC East looking up like scared turkeys if he were to get signed by the Dolphins.

I don’t like guys who pick and choose when to play, and he stunk last year. Great upside, but I want someone who comes to play every day, not just on payday.

It would be an amazing site to see both Peppers and Porter rushing the passer. That would bring us to an “elite” defense .. it would be similar to Pittsburgh with Woodley and Harrison .. Porter needs a running mate. I don’t care who becomes that person .. I just care someone does become that person

although he’ll cost us, and though we’re a rebuilding team, which means we hold off on vets and such, when do we consider ourselves not rebuilding? if we get peppers, he’ll not only complement porter and co. but he’ll teach our younger guys… therefore we can get outta rebuilding a lot quicker imo

He has been sparingly dropped into coverage by the Panthers but it has always seemed to have positive results. If he wants 7-8 mil a year though, he needs to pick a new place.

DE is one position that you can play at a high level at in your early 30’s, especially when your losing athleticism still keeps you above 75% of other DE’s in terms of athleticisim as it would be in Peppers case

I know there are some concerns about how he would fit into the 3-4 defense. Peter King, blowhard that he is, seems to think that Peppers will make a great running mate with Phillip Merling. Not sure what that implies, but it’s wrong either way. Peppers is plenty athletic enough to fit in as an OLB in the 3-4. I think of him as a bigger Jason Taylor, in terms of height and athleticism. He’s a beast rushing the passer, but I think he’d be ridiculous dropping into a zone or trailing a TE down the field. Now, you wouldn’t put him in 1-1 coverage with Tony Gonzalez, but no 3-4 team puts their strongside OLB in exclusive man coverage without safety help.

I say if we get a chance, we need to get this guy in here. You would have him on weakside while Roth plays strongside in obvious run downs, and you can move Peppers to strongside and bring Porter in for weakside in passing downs. You also have Cam Wake to mix too. I think it’s a no-brainer to get him in a Dolphins uniform.
