Scott Pioli, who helped build and lead a dynasty in New England, is now in charge of a Kansas City franchise which hasn’t won a playoff game in 14 years.
Pioli, the son-in-law of Miami Dolphins boss Bill Parcells, has been honored many times for his contributions to the Patriots’ three Super Bowl championships. With Pioli working with Belichick, the Patriots used an effective mix-and-match of trades, free agent signings and draft selections to dominate the league. In 2007, six players drafted by Pioli and Belichick made the Pro Bowl.
Well, that can't be good for the Pats... which means, "HOORAY!". The only thing better for the Fins would be if he had gone to the NFC, but what the hell, I'll take it!
I don't know what YOU might think about Scott Pioli's contribution to the New England dynasty (yes, I called it that... what else are you going to call the consistent success they have had in this decade?), but personally?.... I think Pioli was *at least* as instrumental as Belichick in keeping this team on top through all the Free Agent losses, the injury ridden seasons, and the salary cap limitations.
It will be interesting to see what happens next. Not only who will fill Pioli's spot, but how that person works with Belichick through FA 2009, and the draft. It will also be interesting to see whether this is a sign of "end times" for the Patriots. We already have Brady as a question mark for the upcoming season, and with the Pats' Offensive Coordinator McDaniels leaving for Denver, you've got to wonder just how much Bill B can take? At what point does he start to look at *HIS* position there and maybe wonder if it is time to move on to a new challenge; or even if it might be time to move on out of coaching all together.
What a great start to the offseason, eh Fin fans?
