OFFICIAL: Donald Thomas placed on IR
Well the rumor is now official. The Dolphins have indeed placed rookie starting guard Donald Thomas on Injured Reserve - officially ending his rookie season just one game into it.
Thomas has been the best story out of camp thanks to his strong showing and ability to win the starting right guard spot. Even Bill Parcells referred to Thomas as a "Godsend" during training camp. But that ankle injury, one which he played through on Sunday, was apparently enough for the Dolphins to end his season. It's a big blow, for sure, to a unit that lacks any depth and struggled at times against the Jets.
Evan Mathis, the player signed to take Thomas' roster spot, does have starting experience with Dan Henning and Mike Maser. But this is still a big loss and, quite honestly, just gives me the feeling that this year is beginning to head down the same road that last season did. This is a team that cannot survive numerous injuries, and already a promising starter has been lost for the year.
Don't know what else to say right now...

Ouch
We were pretty lucky for awhile there……but this still kinda bites. I hope he gets better and comes back next year for us.
look for
Mathis to start he played in Carolina when Henning was there and seems like he could fill in and do a decent job
This is very very disappointing...
Man I was really pulling for this kid. He’ll be able to bounce back from this but this is bad. I’ll just leave it at that. :(

I Just Got Done
Listening to Omar Kelly say Thomas played better than anyone on the line after he watched the game again. Even with the injury.
Worst.
What’s Bentley’s deal? He seemed to have some of his mobility back. This really hurts.

Lay Off
We were looking for a high point. Something to celebrate and so far the play of Donald Thomas has been that. There’s no telling how he might return.
I’m with Matty. Thomas was the one player that everyone could agree on.
Now we have a retread.
www.thephinisher.com
looking at the schedule and the line
on the AZ game (-7) it doesn’t look like there will be a game the fins are favored in until sometime after week 10…
looks to be another long season.
let's look at the bright side
the team would probably be worse off if any other offensiver starter were out for the season, except for maybe camarillo. don’t get me wrong, i really like thomas and this sucks, but imagine losing pennington, long, carey, or brown.
You're wrong.
We could lose Brown. We have Ricky. We could lose Ricky. We have Brown. Losing Thomas is almost like losing Pennington, Ricky, AND Ronnie. He will have even less time now and it’s doubtful that any big rushing lanes are going to be opened up by our remaining linemen.
We can only hope that Long seriously kicks it into high gear after the bye.
i said offensive STARTER
i know Ginn didn’t play well either, but his play should improve the rest of the season, and he’s still our best receiver.
3rd and final reply.
How can you even say Thomas isn’t as important as any other offensive player? Did Ireland not draft an offensive lineman first? That should tell you something.
i never said
offensive linemen were not important. by the way, we drafted a LT first. when is the last time a guard has ever been draftetd 1st (with the intention of playing guard)…hmmm… NEVER. look i’m not trying to get in an argument. my whole point is that our situation is not nearly as bad as it could be, or nearly as bad as last year for that matter. so we should get over this loss, move on, and cheer our team on for next week without losing hope that we can still have a good season! i’m just trying to bring a little optimism to this site! but with all do respect, the chances that thomas would end up being nearly as valuable as pennington, brown (even though we have ricky), or long for this season is slim to none.
on a side note
jacksonville lost both their starting guards; and of course new england is now without brady. overall we haven’t been that unlucky as far as injuries go (so far at least. knock on wood)
Thomas Playes Better
Than Long on Sunday. Better than Smiley on Sunday. Better than Satele on Sunday.
Carey was his consistent self. But still? I know it’s not the end, but it really hurts.
www.thephinisher.com
do u really think
that over the course of the entire season, thomas would be more valuable than long or carey? possible, but i highly doubt it. just position alone, tackles are more valuable than guards.
Playing Two 3-4
Teams twice a year really makes a guard important.
I know full well that a tackle is harder to find than a guard. I too nearly choked on a chicken wing when Vern went down.
That said, all I was communicating was that Thomas played better than those folks. That’s all. He played better.

GO PHINS
this does suck but we have alot of young guys and we r rebuilding and we will still get alot of expierence this year for the young guys we will get better this year make the playoffs next year and hopefully in the super bowl or close the year after it could be worse and he will be back next year and still be good thank got he didnt blow out his knee GO PHINS
WOW
I will say one thing……Thomas is one tough SOB to have played most of the game with a serious injury. Its time for Shawn Murphy to step up………
Keep your head up Matty
We made it through the whole Preseason without any major injuries.
THIS IS NOT LAST YEAR!

F-bomb...
dang, rebuild and all, I was psyched about D Thomas.
However, I am still looking forward to seeing how the team learns from game one and gets better. Sporano said that the sacks weren’t just O line mistakes but were sometimes TE or RB block mistakes etc., maybe that’s why Grigsby got canned.
Don’t worry Rz, I’m mos def man-ing up, no prob.
route 66 is gone for the year....NOOoOOOOOOOO
this kid was playing like jamie nails man

See! That's why you "HAVE" to have starting caliber "backups"!
This is the prime and perfect example for BP to get it through his thick head that we weren’t going to make it through a season with just starters and no one behind them. Right now, if Jake Long went down and Carey moved back to the LT spot, who the heck is going to step in at RT? Ndukwe? Please!
I didn’t understand why BP didn’t sign Bentley, but anyways….
I'm a little tired of you taunting Matty!
Finsfactor, please stop it immediately. Obviously you are trying to stick it to him for reprimanding you earlier. Its not cool. We have a great sight here there is no place for the nonsense.

Thanks, Ken.
I’d have to agree with Ken, finsxfactor. You need to realize that these posts get picked up by some rather large news agencies. However, a good way for that to end is by having people like you curse left and right. The occasional curse? Fine. But you were using the f-bomb in every single post after the game, as well as calling people and/or ideas “gay” – which is an insult to any one of my readers who might actually be gay.
All I’m asking for is just more maturity when you are posting. That’s all.
we cool?

my opinion
you know some of your Dolphin stuff, but you’re just annoying as hell. I’m not going to attack you, belittle you, or any of that. I do take back what I have done, I don’t know you well enough to make any judgments. The next time you try to tell me what to post and what not too post, then we will have a problem. I’ve only been here a month or so, but I know who is in charge……and you ain’t it. Get on the bandwagon, join the team and come on in for the big win. No harm no foul. Just take your Ritalin, switch to decaf, and only talk here as you would to your Mother and all will be good. Ok, this has been my Henry Kissinger moment…….I’m done.
