Williams feeling urge to smoke
I know it may not be a big deal but this is ridiculous. Yeah, it is better then him just going and doing it, but the fact that the urge is still there is really scary. Here is the link and quote:
Dolphins coach Tony Sparano told his players to ''stay home'' and keep out of trouble during their three days away from the NFL grind last weekend. But he could never demand each player not be tempted by trouble. And that's what running back Ricky Williams admitted happened to him, if only for a few moments. Williams, in the NFL's substance-abuse program since 2002 and having tested positive four times, said Monday he was briefly tempted to smoke marijuana while the Dolphins had their bye weekend. Williams said the extra free time was the primary reason for the temptation. ''Most definitely,'' Williams said. 'It's greater because, like, Thursday, coach told us we had Friday off, so automatically your mind, which is so constrained since training camp began -- every day is a grind, it's a grind, it's a grind -- and then Coach says `you're free.' And the mind says, `I'm free, what can I do?' ``So there was definitely an urge. But I just thought about what I have to lose and it was easy. The urge didn't last very long.'' Williams said he successfully combated the urge to smoke by meditating instead.

Stay strong Ricky
You could put any addicts name into that story. They want what they want when they want it. Just hope he stays strong and wins his daily battles. Sounds like he won this one.

its not ridiculous
the man likes smoking weed.. i think the big thing here is that even though he wanted to, yet he didnt is a big step forward for him. and by the way jpen the urge will always be there for him and im sure once his football days are done he will go right back and smoke again! atleast this is our worry and we arent like the rams and raiders right now.
it takes years of being away from it
before the desire really dissipates. But kudos to him for admitting it and resisting the temptation.

i really don't understand why the nfl hates on the w33d
it’s not like he’s smokin up before the game. if he wants to unwind with a glass of wine on his day off why can’t he relax with a spliff?
we like Jet Blue, we stay hella high
because its illegal
not sure how to explain it more than that. I live in the “is”, not the “what should be”.

it's not illegal in some states
so hypothetically if he played for the Broncos or a cali team, would it be acceptable?

No
its the NFL. Just like most jobs where they do drug screening. Its their policy and their rules. Abide and obey or take the hemp highway.

or
a life of reality and a real feeling of worth on the field and off, or weed. When you get to rehab, you’ll understand.

you'd think with all his money
he’d buy a $30 detox kit, yeesh lol
we like Jet Blue, we stay hella high
maybe its just not best
for him. Some, like with all booze and drug related issues, can be o.k. with a litte fun once in awhile. Others…have addictions that can hamper and ruin their lives. I used to say “just ride it out Ricky and you can smoke a plantation in Columbia when you retire”……but, he’s a good guy from what I see, and I hope he stays clean for himself and his kids now. Too each their own….as long as you don’t hurt yourself or others is all I’m saying.

I believe that the question was posed to Ricky by the reporter and he was bated into that answer just a little bit. True, he’s hidden his marijuana usage in the past and that’s not exactly a policy of honesty. But from most reports, at this point in his career Ricky seems really candid in his interviews and gave a true response to the inquiry.
He should edit what he says to those guys, but I don’t think at this point the weed is going to be an issue until his playing days are over
he just said the truth
and good for him. It kinda sucks that we live by “innocent until proven guilty” but when it comes to the media, you have to verbalize an alibi or be condemened on the cross of scrutiny. Stay true Ricky.

Even if weed was legal
It should be banned in the NFL, because you would have some players smokin it up before games and either getting seriously injured or screwing things up on the field. Unlike alcohol, the “mary jane” is not as easily noticed when someone is stoned and you cant test for the exact time someone is stoned. therefore if the coaches suspect someone is stoned before a game, if that player denies it, there is no way to prove it.
not to play devil's advocate, but
playing devil’s advocate, if guys were smokin it up and getting hurt or screwing things up on the field, wouldn’t you think that would kinda sort itself out?

Until Ricky gets busted
with pot in his system, I will not hold urges against him. It will only prove how dedicated he is to football now.
addiction is a disease
give the guy a break. he has cleaned up…but hes honest.
ur never in the clear when ur addicted.
