Cam Cameron

I've been following this website for almost a year and I really enjoy the insight it gives to fans. One thing I want to say that was touched on earlier in the year goes hand in hand with the post about quarterbacks, and that's coaching. I think Cam Cameron really got a bum rap in Miami. First off he was expected to take a team that was already on a downward spiral and turn them around in one year. The NFL is a coaching merry go round, again dictated more by money and politics rather than commitment. It's all about the now. Don't get me wrong I love the Dolphins but I really don't support some of the business decisions that are made. And in retrospect I think the right choice was made. But do I think that Cam Cameron could have made this team a winning, playoff contending team, you bet I do. I really think he could've, and I think somewhere down the road he will become a head coach and prove a lot skeptics wrong.

I have to disagree...

1) He was way too soft. A coach has to be tough and he was far from that. Being tough as a coach makes you get everything that you can out of your players. Cam was way too soft and couldn’t earn an inch of respect from his players. Joey Porter cussed him out in a 3-minute rant and just took it like a bitch. I’d like to try to see him try that on Sparano…

2) He made some HORRIBLE game decisions. I’m not able to name any specific ones off the top of my head at the moment, but I vividly remember times jumping out of my couch in a fit of rage cussing at the TV due to the play calling Cam was calling. This happened on several occasions.

Trust me, even IF Cameron really is a decent coach, we’re in a much better situation now…

Cam is a good coach

and has a great mind for the X’s and O’s of NFL offenses… but great Head Coaches don’t have to be great football minds, they must be great motivators and be strong with their decisions. The players and assistant coaches must believe in him and everything he does and says. He needs to be a good organizer, and know when to delegate a decision, when to trust his assistants, and when to trust his gut.

Cam will always be a good coordinator, its the other stuff that will keep him from being a good head coach.

On this team, we are all united in a common goal: to keep my job.

lets talk about this one after the season

~Cam will always be a good coordinator, its the other stuff that will keep him from being a good head coach.~

you bought the PR… Cam may be a nice guy and a good neighbor, but he’s in over his head… no org, no planning, and no real connection with his players… his only success was with marty and LT, and did anyone see any real drop off in SD last year with a series of injuries to key starters most of the year?

Cam will likely be fired before the phins make the playoffs and I think that is going to be soon.

I didn't buy any PR

I stated that he didn’t have any of the skills you need in a head coach i.e. organization, planning, connecting with players… but he still is a good XO’s guy. San Diego really didn’t change the system up too much last season, and yeah it always looks good with good players, but there’s plenty of OC’s that have fxxked up good teams with bad systems.

I agree though, lets see how he does this season with a pretty crappy looking Ravens Offense and none of the HC responsibilities.

you did buy the PR

~“but he still is a good XO’s guy”~

what XO’s thing did he do last year that stood out? running the reverse that got ronnie KO’ed?
after almost getting trent killed? that was something. when beck was having trouble seeing downfield… did he X&O to get him out of the pocket? when ronnie went down, did he X&O to get L Bo into the game and run meaningful plays/touches for him even though crowder was saying during CAMP that the guy was an ankle breaker….

It was his offense last year and he was calling the shots, so minus LT, Gates, & Breese I didn’t see anything that said ooooh!!! offensive genius… heck he was the guy that thought cleo lemon could run the show, after running pepper and harrington (who was working cheap I might add) out of town… how many plays did it take you to understand that cleo isn’t an NFL QB.

so i’m going out on a limb here… the ravens will score the fewest points in the NFL this year… yup fewer then KC, Tenn, or even atlanta with mularkey no less (did i miss any other futile offenses?)

Speaking of San Diego

A LOT can be said for talent because Norv looked good in Dallas and looks good in San Diego but wasn’t too hot at Washington and was laughable at Oakland and while Cam seems like a good man and Citizen,it’s easy to look good when the deck is stacked.

Weasel

Cameron is just weak. He may have some good offensive ideas, but as a coach getting all he can out of players, he just doesn’t have it. He needs a Head Coach to reinforce what he’s trying to do. Some of the play calling when it was purely his decision was just…wtf… tons of times. For a supposed offensive guru, he really beached our ’Fins. Miami needs a drill sgt. By comparison, Cameron was more like “Floyd The Barber”

Cam Cameron?

I must admit I was one that bought into the hype and his plans. But, it was plain simple from where I saw it, the guy could not have been a worse head coach. He could even be worse than Wanstache. I mean, the first mistake was not hiring an offensive coordinator. Then he got rid of McMichael for nothing and the Culpepper thing. He strung us along with the Trent Green crap. Then the pick of Ted Ginn over Brady Quinn which at the time was just mind boggling. But that could actually end up being the only good decision he made. Bad game management all season cost us some games. I blame him for what John Beck is. The guy might be a bust thanks to Cam. His offensive calls were, let me see, offensive to say the least.

I challenge anyone on this site to give me 10 positive things that the guy did for us last year other than to buy a house and pay taxes while in Florida. If you can, then I will politely zip my mouth shut. I am not sad for him, he left with Millions of dollars for the worst record in NFL history. I cannot say that I see a bright future for him in Baltimore.

hmmm.....is a 6 pack involved?

1. He made it possible for us to have Sparano, Parcells and Ireland
2. Ginn; on that one, he fell into a pile of dung and came out smelling like a rose.
3. He let our team know how bad it can be
4. He cleared salary cap room…..by getting rid of some great talent
5. For the first time, and this hurts, made fans wear bags on their heads. I hope I never
see this again. How is that positve? It’ll never get that bad again.
6. He put us in position for a number 1 draft pick
7. He made Mr. H rethink how bad did he really wanted to win.
8. He drew the real fans together, all the posers and wannabees haven’t a clue right now.
9. He made the Dolphins finally clear house. He was the “straw” that broke that camel.
10. He has set the wheels in motion for a great comeback from a proud franchise.

whew…….that was tuff
