Roy Williams...interested?
From SI.com ( http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/71631 ). Seems the new GM in Detroit is claiming WR Roy Williams is not being shopped around...BUT the Lions will listen. I'm curious if you think the Dolphins should be players if indeed there is a deal to be had...and if so...what would you be willing to offer?
Recently, I've read (and concur with) the opinion that next season will be phase 2 of the rebuilding process and it will focus more on the skill positions. I believe our cap space would not be a hinderance for affording a proven (possibly elite) receiver. To me the issue is what the Phins FO would be willing to offer to make a deal with a new Lions GM trying to make his mark.
What are your thoughts?

Any upgrade @ WR
would be better than what we have now.

likely price is too high
the team is rebuilding and draft picks are priority number one right now, so i don’t see how giving up
a #1 would be a smart move right now to get a guy like that during this portion of the rebuilding arc… the answer would likely be differant in two years though.

agreed
I think this regime values the draft pick much more than to just trade them away.. I would trust them to find a quality receiver instead of trying to overpay for a proven guy.
Trust that BP will NOT be fleeced in a deal

crabtree…..roy williams….ted ginn…..dbess……
come get u some.
far fetched. but hey 2 2nds these days buys u allot

To be honest
I don’t think we need to spend the money on Roy, as tantalizing as it maybe I think we are better off making some strategic moves in the draft and maybe get someone in the second round or hell even a UFA. We are still rebuilding and he may want to go somewhere he can win a championship asap. But if I had to give a pick I think a 2nd rounder and thats it. And I would make it a conditional deal.

The problem with the draft is
you never know who youre going to get (Ted Ginn, Jamar Fletcher, Jason Allen). I know BP and Co. werent calling the shots then, but isnt it better to get a young proven WR that has already experienced most of the growing pains in the NFL, instead of having to wait and hope for an inexperienced rookie to blossom. Id say a 1st is reasonable if Roy agrees to a contract extension at the right $. Besides we’re probably going to be picking in the mid 20s anyway : )

Roy Williams...interested?
Please nobody will trade for him, what I’ve noticed is draft picks are like gold, till draft day when most of the “real deal” talant is gone then teams trade draft picks like trading cards. Patiant Roy Williams most likely will be a Dolphin but it will be in the off season. BP will use the draft picks to places where we need the most help is WR, and CB if we get williams i see us drafting a #1 corner.
If it ain't Miami Dolphins it's Crap!!!

Absolutely not.
Look, if teams are willing to trade players, there’s usually a reason for it.
One, they’re getting a LOT more in return then the player is worth.
Two, The player isn’t actually that good so the team is willing to part with them.
Three, the player is a locker room Cancer who is doing more harm to the team then good.
And, quite frankly, I don’t like any of those 3 options. I’ve NEVER been a fan of trading for skill position players. When you really sit down and think about it, how many QBs, RBs, or WRs have been traded that go on to do really well? Most “great” players in the NFL are ones that were drafted by the team they’re on and have stayed there for their entire careers.
Remember, the team that is trading a player away always has a better idea of what that player is worth then the team who is receiving the player (the exception to this is players that were traded away by Mueller & Co.) So sure, make those blockbuster trades to bring in your lineman and defensive players, but when it comes to the QB, RB, or WR positions, you build them in the draft.
Remember, you build a team with the draft, you build your depth with trading.
Some people try to find things in this game that don't exist but football is only two things - blocking and tackling. ~Vince Lombardi

considering you have to give up a first round pick
and/or another one, I say hell no. These guys know what to do with draft picks, and I’d much rather have a playmaking WR AND another starter, than just a WR. Remember this is Roy Williams, there’s guys like him all over the place, we’re not talking about a HOFer here.
Finsxfactor, tell me this, would you rather trade your number 1 and 3 and get RW, or get, say, Crabtree at 1 and hold on to the 3 to grab some secondary/LB help? Think about it… I’ll wait..

either way I'm not giving up picks
If he’s a free agent its a different story. However, I wouldn’t expect BP to break the bank for him in bidding war… We all saw how the Calvin Pace situation ended up, they’re not overpaying for squat.

but isnt pace doing awesome...and i know we have the super cap room...and after getting rid of holliday next year i would have no problem with a 5 year - 25 million contract =)
for an awesome playmaking wr who is as old/young as Johnathan bartholome beck

you gotta remember
Carey will be up for an extension soon, as will Ronnie. Not sure of our projected cap number, but they would be top priority to resign. I have no idea what value this regime places on a WR of RW’s caliber, so I don’t know if that contract would even be offered. I get it, though, you really want Roy Williams. My point was just that A) we won’t be giving high draft picks away, and B) we won’t get into a bidding war and overpay for a player, no matter how talented he is. We can throw hypothetical trades and contracts all day and debate, but I think my two points hold true no matter the situation.
