Sunday's Gameballs
[Editor's Note by Matty I] Be sure to vote in the "gameballs poll" in the right sidebar of the front-page. [end note]
Wow. What a victory. We completely dominated a very good Patriots team on all sides of the ball. The OL and DL controlled the LOS, and our secondary looked leaps and bounds ahead of last week. I'm thinking about giving out 5 "Phinsider Gameballs" a week, since this win has energized me and every other fan of the Dolphins. So on to it, in reverse order of performance.
5. Randy Moss: Way to quit on the team, big guy. Apparently Brady wasn't the only guy NE lost to the knee injury, as Moss just looked uninterested in running routes or catching anything that wasn't a down and out from Cassel. Today was a flashback to the Oakland years, and I like it. The more he dogs it for the Pats, the more I like him.
4. Joey Porter: Everybody pretty much killed him during the week for talking smack to a superior team with a history for responding to 'bulletin board quotes.' But he definitely backed his words up with his play today, and was the best player on our defense. 3 sacks and a forced fumble, plus numerous QB pressures set the tone for a defense that held the vaunted Patriots Offense to 1 (yes, 1) Touchdown. Way to step it up Joey.
3. Chad Pennington: The most accurate QB in NFL history was just that today, accurate. 17-20, 226 yards. It wasn't just dink and dunk completions either, as his 13+ yard per completion average shows, he went down the field for some big completions. He got Fasano involved down the middle, which will be a staple of this offense in the same way Dallas uses Witten. He got Ted Ginn the ball early, and hit him in space to allow Ginn to try and make plays. Ted didn't break anything today, but it's good to see him involved and getting opportunities. And didn't Chad look like a natural lined up at WR? Didn't he? No? OK, well at least he played one position well today. This was all we wanted out of him when he was signed, and he definitely delivered.
2. Dan Henning: He's been criticized rather harshly (though probably deserved) after the first 2 games for misuse of Ronnie, Ricky, Ginn, and the young OL, but he got it right today. And then some. We ran behind Jake for tough yards, and pulled Smiley on 3 of Ronnie's TD runs off the right side. Ronnie and Ricky were both in the backfield on many plays, and the Jet Sweep Option play was a thing of beauty. Getting Ginn into the offense and designing plays to get him the ball was an improvement over last weeks Ted Ginn Disappearing Act, and all the pass plays were quick and well designed. Overall, a very good gameplan and we executed it to perfection.
1. Ronnie Brown (who else?): When you get 5 TD's, you get the top spot here. 3 Rushing TD's off the option look, which the Patriots just had no answer for. Ronnie hit the gaps inside and ran through tackles left and right. His second TD was capped off by what's becoming a Ronnie Brown Trademark, running a defender over at the goalline. Ellis Hobbs took the worst of it, looking like a bowling pin at the end of the run. And the 62 yarder was incredible, with Ronnie patiently waiting for a hole, than exploding through the safety and running away from everybody to the endzone. And how about that pass? Talk about on the money, Fasano never broke stride. That was a great call by Henning, and Ronnie made a perfect throw. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of Ronnie, and in more creative ways over the next few weeks.
Well there it is, the 5 Phinsider Gameballs. Congrats to the winners, let me know if you think I left somebody out or how you feel about my choices. Go Dolphins!

Stellar choices one and all. Let’s see if the fantasy football players take note and start picking up our sack machine of a defense and our stud rb Ronnie Brown. I know it’s one game against an injury-riddled Pats team, but damn they looked good! Our pre-season promise coming to fruition!

Yup
definitely a great win, and I don’t think the Pats were injury-riddled on D. Their entire front 7 was healthy and playing and getting beaten to a pulp by Ronnie.
Fantasy note, my buddy lucked up because the guy he was playing had Ronnie… on his bench. 40-something points down the drain.. too bad.

I had just dropped our defense this week :(
I had planned on picking them up again at the end of the bye week. I didn’t expect this kind of domination!!

Don't think anybody did
My buddy’s opponent had Ronnie on his bench. I just read on ESPN that even though Ronnie is owned in 98% of leagues, he was only starting in 16% NOBODY thought we even had a chance to put up some fantasy points, nevermind blow NE out IN FOXBORO. That’s what makes this victory that much sweeter.

the right picks
loved #5, after he sluffed that one pas I said too my friend….“Guess Randy decided he didn’t want to play today…..”
Joey…..I gave you crap for mouthing off, but, you backed it up! You’re new nick “Kitchen Sink”
Chad…..I was dogging you too, but today you proved experience makes up for lack in other areas, way to manage and control with a surgeons steady hand.
Coach Henning…….Thats what I’m talking about buddy!!! Put the right players in and use their talents in the right situations……awesome job!
Ronnie: YEA BAAABBBYYY! Loved the way you finished off your touchdown by planting that s.o.b. DB……it was the greatest exclamation point to a TD!
FANS: I give one to all of us that watched the game today……thinking at halftime "Is this real? Are we going to blow it? How cool is the Phinsider going to be this week? lol

Now you know Dolphins, bring the work, reap the reward!!! High 5 wade!!

My game ball goes to the entire coaching staff
We DOMINATED the Pats in just about every way they could DOMINATED. The defense didn’t quit. The offense kept pouring on. The schemes, coaching, everything. Those coaching got so far those players @ss after that performance in Arizona the could see their teeth.
Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

Agreed he seemed like he was out of it all game long, He had a pass that was a quick out and he could of beat Lehan I believe but he just went out of bounds.

Disagree with 5
Maybe we can send moss a turd sandwich but he’s not getting any valuable phinsider property!
No. 5 should be Jake Long or the O-Line. Long’s block on Ronnie’s second TD run made my eyes bug out of my head. It was like he pushed his man into some gaping black hole from which d-lineman may never return. Long is going to be a fantastic pick. I’m so pumped about this team right now. It’s like after the KC preseason game, only for real.
Football isn't a matter of life and death - it's far more important than that.

“It was like he pushed his man into some gaping black hole from which d-lineman may never return.”
nice. I agree with you about the OL, and they deserve a gameball for sure. I just wanted to point out Randy basically quitting on his team today. I think after Cassel put one high on an In route and Randy just let it sail over his head to avoid the hit from the safety signalled to me that he wasn’t into it today. I think our coaching staff got the message too, because after that play they started to blitz a little more often. So let’s get that Turd Sandwich in the mail. Maybe I’ll make the Turd Sandwich part of this post in the future, for the player who really laid an egg on gameday…

His second TD was capped off by what’s becoming a Ronnie Brown Trademark, running a defender over at the goalline
The best part about that hit was that Ronnie could have ran in from anyother angle but he chose to knock the hell out of Hobbs

Favorite part about Brown
he can walk into the endzone untouched, or he can take a defender with him… and he ALWAYS chooses the latter. Against Oakland last season, he barrelled a defender across the goalline and stepped over him into the endzone. Reminds me of a kid I played with in Youth Ball. He just liked to run people over. One play he broke down the sideline, but instead of just outrunning everybody for the easy score, he cut back and plowed the safety first. We loved it. And now Ronnie is doing the same thing whenever he gets a chance.

Yup
Belichick’s a prick. And I’m glad he got disgraced by the league, I’m glad they lost the Super Bowl, and I’m uber-glad we bounced his sourpuss ass like a basketball today.
Payback is sweet. And ESPN called us the “lowly” Dolphins. Doesn’t 38 points on a team with 21 straight regular season wins upgrade you from lowly? ESPN sucks. We’re not lowly anymore, we’re up and coming, surprising, or historically greater than New England. CBS even slurps the Pats, with their new restaurant IN THE STADIUM. The network has rug burns on it’s knees.
You know every team in the league is looking to run up the score on the Patriots. They deserve it. It bit em in the Super Bowl, it bit em with Brady’s injury, and it bit em today. It’ll keep biting em until the football gods decide it’s enough.

No love for Ricky or O-Line?
Where’s the love?
Ricky … 98 yards, plus a few key catches for first downs / good yards and a role in each of those touchdowns (from play fakes to a down field block on Vrabel … may have been low, but fine by me). Also picked up some ruching LB’s and DE’s well. Would have been my choice for #5.
O-line … you can even forget the rushing yards if you want to. the most important line to me is 0 SACKS! Finally a little protection. Deserves a mention at the least.

Agreed all around
somebody else pointed out the OL above, and yes they deserve a gameball this week for sure. I pretty much wrote this right after the game, just out of excitement, and I definitely forgot to include the entire OL. But, I will make an Official Gameball Ruling and throw Moss’ gameball in the garbage, give the OL a shiny new one, and mail Moss a Turd Sandwich for the week.
I think Ricky had a terrific game, and I love the way they used him and Ronnie, not only on the field together, but strategically over the course of the game. Letting Ronnie make plays to build the lead, then letting Ricky wear down the defense to close it out is brilliant, and I hope we have many more chances to do that the rest of the year.

Pass Rush and Bess vs Ginn!
OK great win, two things to say :
1. The pass rush has always been there people the corners were letting the receivers open way to fast. If u go look at the previous 2 games the pocket collapse pretty fast for the opposing team the corners just have to do a better job, they did today !!!!!!
2. Tedd Ginn at kick of return and punt return its time,, if there is one thing he can do it’s
make a big play on special teams Devon has runined his welcome at kr/pr. I love the kid but his 40 was like a 4.6 i don’t think he will ever break a big one he jsut gies us honest yards. Ginn is a threat and will alter fielf position in the entire game.
DOL-FAN!

My 5 game balls are
5. Randy Starks-That was a Huge INT early in the game to keep points off the board coming after a sack which really got into Cassel head.
4. Chad Pennington-Did what we all though he could do, manage the game and not make errors and 0 minus plays great job……
3. Coaching Staff-After that debacle last week they had this team ready to play and focused…0 turnovers and only 5 penalties for 35 yards……Great sign to see this team play so well after a bad loss.
2. Jerry Porter- Talked the Talk and Walked the Walk….I too wanted him to shut up during the week especially after how bad the defense looked last week.
1. Ronnie Brown-Do I need to say more? NFL player of the week

I like
the Starks one too…….our D line really played well didn’t they? Some of those behind the line of scrimmage plays were just man vs. man on the line, and they put their will on the Pats O-line. It was awesome!

To the knockdown made by Ferguson(i think),
that came right after Cassel through for the interception, but was call rufing the passer. That was a HUGE legal hit, call badly by the ref.
