Patience for young QB

Star-divide

Now like or don't like Dave Hyde of the Sun Sentinel, but in the following article he puts forward an interesting viewpoint.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/columnists/sfl-flsphyde02sbsep02,0,3976309.column

He compares Henne's and Beck's numbers from their pre-season outings in their rookie years.

QB rating: Henne 70.3, Beck 71.5.

Thrown Touchdowns: Henne 1, Beck 2

Interceptions: Henne 2, Beck 2.

Yards per attempt: Henne 5.57, Beck 6.25.

Now I don't know about you, but those numbers look very similar, although it doesn't take into account playing timing, which I think Henne has had more of this pre-season than Beck had last pre-season but I don't know.

The main point is that this pre-season does not show that Henne is automatically the future of the franchise as he has not done more than what Beck did last year and now everybody is writing him off.

Henne needs to be well managed and guided through his rookie year and as such the Miami faithful need to show some patience and not rush him out onto the pitch.

 Any thoughts opinions, agree, disagree.

I dont think anyone will be rushing Henne out

with Chad Penny @ the helm. It will take time before Beck / Henne catch up to CP. Just hopefully Penny doesn’t go down with injury.

henne is gonna be fine

Know henne and beck are totally different i belive,But i now henne is gonn abe way better than beck,Cuz henne is gonna get time to progress with chad as his mentor…By the time that we do throw henne into the field are o-line well be better and are recivers also….So he will be in a way better situation……

Interesting

With Falco and Ryan starting for their respective teams, its going to be interesting to see how Henne compares to them in a few years. I hope we are doing the right thing groomin him as opposed to tossing him too the wolves. I just feel that this is a mute point anymore, Beck won’t be a starter at Miami, unless Wade really did jinx us and everyone else goes down in front of him. (lol) jk wade, i don’t believe in that stuff.

Wait and see....

….you can have all the time in the world, the best “mentor” (which pennington is not at the top of the list – remember Trent Green mentoring Beck), great coaches, etc. but what it comes down to is how that QB performs once he gets on the field and what the situation is when he gets on the field. Beck had a degrading o-line, no running game, no wide receivers and ended up failing for the most part. Definitely not all his fault – you can’t put a rook in that situation and expect success. Hopefully Henne doesn’t deal with that and can come into an ideal situation with a much better performing team. That’s why Beck is still on this team if Penny goes down – they will not do to Henne what Cam-Cam did to Beck.

don't forget the fact that Beck never once got to play behind the starting OL...

…last preseason. Meanwhile, Henne consistently got to play with the 1st team OL this preseason. Think that made things easier for Henne?

Matty, I am still with you on Beck.

I only saw some highlights from the NO game. Henne had a nice fumble and a beautiful interception. He had one completion over 10 yards. How often did he check down? HMMMMM. The headline read how well Henne did. I can bet if Beck did the same thing as Henne, all the critics would be bashing him for the fumble, interception and check downs.

HENNE CAN DO NO WRONG

I totally agree, everyone is so in love with Henne! This regime is not even giving Beck a chance to compete because they want their draft pick to succeed. Beck only threw the ball 11 times this preseason and kneeled the ball just about the same amount of times. How does this give him a chance to prove himself. Beck did have a bad first week of practice, i do agree but after that he was just as consistent or inconsistent as Henne. Henne made a few nice throws but a majority of them were “CHECKDOWNS.” Look at his yards per catch. Beck I hope will be a given a chance to prove himself on this team or another and all you HENNE crushers will see he is not as bad as all of you like to think.

exactly right

i’m already saying Henne can’t handle it since he couldn’t beat out penny….

cut him now.

but the reality of the situation is the triad likes Henne and he will be playing no matter what you beckies say…
Beckie fumbled his shot and you all have to come to grips with it.

I was going to say the exact same thing

I found his take kind of iffy… Henne played with/against the starters (mostly) and beck was playing against the 4th quarter cut guys last year.
