Chad Pennington Update
The latest on the recently-released Chad Pennington comes to us from ESPN.com's Tim Graham, a former Miami Dolphins beat reporter. He is reporting the following:
The Jets released Pennington at 4 p.m. Thursday to clear salary-cap space for Brett Favre's arrival, but a half dozen teams already have contacted Pennington's agent, Tom Condon, to express interest in signing the eight-year NFL veteran, a source told ESPN.com.
The source also said Pennington probably wouldn't find a new home for two or three days because the interested clubs are busy with preseason games. One of the teams is the Miami Dolphins, who open their preseason Saturday night against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
So who might these other 5 teams be? Earlier reports indicated that one if Chad's former coaches, Herm Edwards, might be interested in Kansas City. Some sources claim the Vikings are not one of the teams. Perhaps the Bears could be a potential team interested in Pennington's services.
Some other possibilities? Those are tougher to identify, though I wouldn't be overly surprised if the Patriots were one of the teams. Chad would be a good backup to Tom Brady and I'm sure Bill Belichick would love to rack Pennington's brain in terms of some of the things the Jets plan to do on offensive in 2008.
So we'll have to take the old "wait and see" approach here.

I think
Pennington biggest desire is going to be a place he can start or at least compete for the starting job. All other things being equal that would make KC and Miami his top choices. Of course all other things are not equal and past connections and knowing the Offensive system would lean him towards KC. But BP can be a big time persuader and Miami plays the Jets twice a year so… I guess we’ll see what Chad’s priorities are in a couple days.

Enough scrubs!!!
I’m sick of the Feelys, Frerottes, Culpeppers, and Greens!!!!Keep what we have and work with them. It’s not like it’s Favre we’re talking about! It’s the Jets cast-off, Pennington!
We're talkin' about PRACTICE....practice!

What the hell?
Chad Pennington is not even close to a scrub. He’s a proven QB who gets results. Does he not hold the all time NFL record for completion %?
Just because he was cut, doesn’t make him a scrub. It just means he’s TOO GOOD which means TOO EXPENSIVE to keep on a roster with Favre.

I'm Torn
On one hand I’d really like a veteran QB with some good ability to help the Fins win some games this year.
But on the hand he’d probably be just another one of those QB’s who’d come in and win some games, however he’d never get us to the next step: the play-offs. I want us to develop Beck and Henne at the sacrifice of now for a better tomorrow.
Good thing I don’t have to make those decisions.

GM's Job
Is to make this team better, can any of the nah sayers put up some logically reasoning or stats that point to Pennington being a “Bum” compared to McCown. I didn’t think so.
Swapping those two would make the Dolphins better, PERIOD! Don’t we all want the Dolphins to be better. Even if he doesn’t play he’s a better mentor and will push Beck and Henne to be better. Picking up free agents that make this team better is the primary responsibility of the front office right now. If BP thinks it’s the right thing to do then ya better get on board cause he usually gets his way.

the only problem with swapping McCown/Pennington...
...is that McCown knows the playbook and has been working with these WRs. Pennington would have to learn all this with only 3 preseason games remaining.

There'd definitely
be a learning curve for Pennington, but from what I’ve read I don’t think any of the QB have great chemistry with the WR. If they actually get him I only hope it’s McCown they release, you don’t think they waive Beck do you Matty 1?

He's better than McClown
He’s smart and accurate and the guy knows how to win, he’d be a better vet to have than Josh.
At the very least he’s a great backup.
Why so serious?

he is
pretty damn accurate.. watched him play at marshall.. he might not have a big time arm, but he does make some good decisions.. he’s alot better option than McCown, IMO..
