Beck trade and who should replace him?
As part of Omar Kellys Q&A Blog today, he suggested that Beck will be traded prior to the start of the season and replaced by someone picked up off the waiver wire. The main reason is that as far as Omar and a few other people think that the scheme that is being run in Miami does not suit Beck and he would be happier in a West Coast Offence.
As a Beck fan I hope this won't happen as it would be a bit premature and I think that Beck has shown he has the skills to do the job, but just needs a bit of work on his confidence.
I would like to know your opinions on three points?
(A) Who do you think Beck would be traded to? (Right offensive scheme & a need for a QB)
(B) How much do you think Miami will get for him, given that he was a 2nd round pick last year and it wasn't considered a reach then?
(C) Who do think will replace him? (A genuine contender, a young talent, or another journeyman in case McGowen is terrible)
Your thoughts please

I doubt he’ll be traded bt I’ve been wrong before.
Why so serious?

Let's suppose this actually happens...
because it is easier to look at your 3 points than to predict whether a trade will take place or not.
Anyway…
1 – The team that immediately comes to mind might be the Bears or maybe even the Chiefs. Sure I know neither would be a perfect scheme, but both clubs definitely do need a QB (especially the Bears) and Beck would come pretty cheap I think.
2- How much for Beck? I’d venture a 4th to 6th round pick – basically comparable to what Charlie Frye was moved to Seattle for last year. Beck has proven absolutely nothing on the field so far and if anything the experience cast doubt on his future in the eyes of many.
3 – If the Fins move Beck then I have to think they feel good about Henne’s chances to be successful. In that case they could have McCown warm the starting spot for a few games while Henne gets up to speed OR just give it right to Henne from game one.
All speculation but hey, what else is there in training camp?!

i think he could be traded
in very similar fashion to the L. Booker deal. didn’t we trade him for a 4th rounder. I think we would get the same for Beck. Maybe a 3rd. He is old, even though only a sophmore.
Who would he go to? vikes, lions, 49ers, eagles, who knows. How about Beck for Favre?
If they trade Beck, I think that means they think Henne is the QB of the future. it sounds like he has done well in training camp. i cant remember the last time i saw a real nice deep ball from the fins. im starting to climb on the henne bandwagon. cant wait to see saturday’s game.

Omar Kelly just makes up things to fill space, don’t take him too seriously.

Why would some team
Wait until training camp is over to bring in a rookie QB into a different system which would be his third system in two years. I think if your going to trade him you would do so now or after the season. I don’t think there’s much into what Omar is saying. I would be a little disappointed in this FO for giving up on him so soon. I will say it again….Beck should have until the end of next years training camp before he is traded or cut and only cut him if he is a bust. From what I am hearing it sounds like the game is too fast for him which could take up to three years before it slows down. Pennington for the Jets sat for 3 years and he’s a very smart QB. He said after the 3rd year everything clicked. I think Beck is alot like him. Romo also sat for 3 and half years. If he has the tools then wait for your investment to pay off.

DING!! DING!! DING!!! we have a winner (pat on the back time)
please read http://www.thephinsider.com/2008/8/2/585033/what-team-will-beck-end-up
we’ve been discussing this for about a week now on my fanpost, were I suggested that this kind of thing should start happening soon….
anyways the leader in the poll right now is baltimore, but i’m pretty sure now it wont be them… between boeller, flacco, and smith they don’t need another QB…
I have been convinced that Dallas will be the team and for the phins 6th round pick miami gave to dallas earlier.

Sorry
Woke up last night (being in the UK can really throw you when your looking at US websites) remembering your fanpost.
Sorry for crashing in on your party, but hopefully a few people who missed it will come back and give you their opinion!

no, no, no
I was just using your forum to pat myself on the back, and I somehow missed that the team started leaking the trade rumor already… thanks for posting it

WHATEVER
i can neither confirm…nor deny these rumors..lol.
John Beck is almost completely worthless as far as a trade goes. To draft a guy in the 2nd rd….let him play w/a Arena League team and get killed….then trade him for a 6th rd pick would be bordering retarded.
No matter where Beck is in this battle we gotta keep him. You stash guys with talent and i even think he has that. If he grows and shows promise like a Shaub type guy then you will get a great return on something your not even using.
I cant see how Henne isnt the guy here…we need to face it. Parcells n co. picked him…after hrs of tape studying and scouting….Beck was just here. If they loved him so much i think they would have used that other 2nd rd pick on another 0-line guy.
Its Sunday afternoon.....do you know where your beer is?

true...
It would be a waste to dump Beck at this point. Why not keep him on the roster for this year, develop him, see what he’s got, then trade him to another team next season, like the Falcons did with Matt Schaub a few years ago.
I actually agree with what was said in Omar’s blog today. Beck is fundamentally not a vertical passer, so he likely won’t reach his potential here. The key though for Parcells and Co. is to try and establish that Beck does have some upside, especially for teams that do play more of a West Coast offense that relies on short to intermediate range throws to move the ball.. That is how you develop a trade market for a given player. If the Dolphins play their cards right, they might get a second rounder for Beck, but they got to play him now in the preseason and show that the guy does have what it takes to be a starter.
You can never have enough young QB’s on your roster, even if you have an established starter…they usually make for good trade bait at worst.
Besides, I do suspect that Beck can develop into a decent player, at minimum a back-up type of QB, at best, a decent starter. You have to give him (and the situation) time though. I doubt that he will be traded this year, but next year, maybe.

t in perspective.
Beck is honestly a rookie. 4 starts on a really bad team. We are expecting too much. I’m happy that Henne is coming along. I think he will be the future, down the road. I’m also guilty of coming down on beck but he should get a fair chance. I hope that we have 2 solid up and coming QBs. The only problem is that Beck should get less of a learning curve because of his age. . . less good years ahead,

He won’t get traded this season.
The QB position has to know an offense inside and out and I don’t think any team would actually be willing to give Beck a shot at a starting spot this late into training camp. That means that he has no trade value at all right now. The Phins could probably get more in a trade early next offseason (maybe a 4th rounder), then they could if they tried to trade him tomorrow (probably a 6th). Teams have already filled out their rosters and already have established situations at QB. The Chiefs are giving Croyle a shot and Huard is the kind of heady vet that makes for a solid backup. Baltimore has Flacco and they don’t make any sense as a trade partner. The loser of the Bears and Jets QB battles will be solid backups. The Vikings have 3 QBs already with the starter, Jackson, the backup Frerotte and the young guy, JD Booty. Also, I know that he was a 2nd round pick just 15 months ago, but he is also 27 years old, so he won’t draw the same interest as other 2nd year players would.
And if Beck were to get traded the Phins would probably just grab some late round or undrafted rookie QB that somebody was trying to stash on a practice squad OR grab some player who is even worse and throw him on their PS. I would bet that Miami won’t want some vet QB around stealing reps away from Henne. If Parcells does want a QB who has been around for a couple of years:
KC has to cut one of David Greene or Tyler Thigpen
NE will let go Matt Gutierrez
TB has to cut Chris Simms eventually. They will probably cut Brian Griese loose too.
ATL has to choose between Joey Harrington and DJ Shockley
MIN will cut Brooks Bollinger
IND will probably cut Jared Lorenzen
NYG will probably cut Anthony Wright

Hopefully no trade
Having read the training camp reports from Tuesday and Wednesday, I hope that Beck seems to have turned a corner and is starting to play like the player that I hope he can be.
My question seems to have generated the usual traffic, but its interesting to read the people who have read the question for what it is, a bit of speculation that will hopefully not happen as I think that it if the front office trades Beck then it really is making one heck of a mistake.
Thanks for your time and thoughts

Landing Spots
San Fransisco seems to make some sense… The Vikings certainly could use him, but its not a great fit.
Could they wait until the season begins, go right up to week 6 and see who get hurt? It might be the best way to maximize our return…
Im beginning to agree that he doesnt suit this coaching staff and scheme. Which is a shame, but what can you do…
