Josh McCown traded to Panthers!
[Editor's Note by Matty I] I just saw on ESPN that the Dolphins are getting an undisclosed draft pick in exchange for McCown. [end note]
Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that the Miami Dolphins have traded quarterback Josh McCown to the Panthers.
Terms of the deal are not yet known.
So McCown is a Panther and who knows what we're getting in return. Likely a low-round pick, or maybe even a player? I have no idea. O-line depth would be nice, and I believe they had some to spare. I can see it more likely being a pick though with the way they've been stockpiling them.
I like the move--Pennington is the starter, and I feel comfortable with Henne as the backup. Why not keep the (relative) youth to develop for the heck of it?

I wonder if...
The Bucs are going to cut Chris Simms? Does anyone here think that if they do, Miami will go after him? I am glad to see that the trifecta decided to keep Beck, and Henne, to see how they develop. Great move by a great front office!!!
Now is the time- the time to rise up from the depths of Hell and stake our claim back on top of the AFC East...Look out Gaytriots here comes Jake Long and the Phins

don't be too sure
i’m sure if baltimore or dallas ponies up a 4th rounder, or even if TB cuts simms, beck could still go.

I don't think so
Why would Baltimore want Beck? I haven’t heard of any interest by them. Beck is worse than Troy Smith. They would be better off starting Flacco if they didn’t like Smith instead of trading for a worthless QB that’s is around 28 years old. Dallas… I mean we have connections. Wade Philips may believe Parcells when he lies about Beck, but I don’t think anyone in their right mind would give us a 4th rounder. 6th round at best. I have said we cut Beck if we can’t trade him to make room for a useful player that has potential. Really when is Beck ever going to have a chance to prove anything to anyone. He’s already been given plenty of chances. He’s too old and a horrible Qb.
I guess I should have thought twice before creating my profile's name.

because
Boeller is likely done for the season (although he says he’s going to play) and baltimore called last week but didn’t want to give up the 4th rounder the fins wanted for beck….
why well since most reports say the team doesn’t think flacco is ready to start and smith is having his own problems they need a QB and Beck should know Cam’s system he’d be ready to start in a pinch.

if they are lucky
more likely a 7th like daniels, since they wanted to get rid of a qb anyways.

Henne's great play
Saved Beck…… for now. Hopefully Beck can make the next round of waiver pickups get a good year under this coaching staff and another offseason to prove he can play in this league.

6th round sounds right.
The panthers should have a middle pick. Unless they already traded a bunch and have a stockpile of draft picks then a 6th round sounds right. I hope we’ll be able to trade John Beck as well. I don’t think this means Beck is safe. If we can trade Beck for a late 5th rounder, then I say we pickup Culpepper.
I guess I should have thought twice before creating my profile's name.

CAROLINA WANTED HIM...
they wanted him but he signed with us to start. i wouldnt say for nothing….we gave him a 2.5 mill singing bonus.
SO THAT MEANS…we payed 2.5 mill for a 6th rd pick maybe. haha. not my money so im all for it…hey lets give 15mill for a 1st rd pick!!!

No choice
They invested money in the guy they felt was the best vet QB out there. Then Pennington became available and they got him. That’s the way it goes in the NFL. Better to eat up the bonus money than have him eat up the roster space when he’s not the best player on the team. So being able to get Pennington and to unload McCown for whatever it is they got for him is a great move overall.
I see some people are having troubler letting go of the “dump Beck” mentality. I would’ve preferred some more of “gosh, we got that wrong,” instead. I see very little chance of the team trading Beck now. And if it happens, I’ll just say “gosh I got that wrong” and move on instead of hanging on to the hope they resign him in free agency someday, know what I mean?.

McCown sucks
I live in the Bay Area and watched him stink it up on the Raiders. Thank you Favre for coming out of retirement.

Should be interesting...
when Pennington goes down in week 5 or 6 (as he always does) to see how Henne does. I predict both Henne and Beck see significant time this season.
BTW – Has anyone seen how Colt Brennan has looked? Kid got game (at least preseason game).

Henne
I think Henne is ready to start. He started all four years in college and has held his own in the games he’s played in. Pennington takes the pressure off of him. We have two good QBs right now. That’s awesome.

Wouldn't bet on it
Wait until we see how the snaps line up in the coming weeks (thats if anybody reports it).
I think it depends on the circumstances if Chad the elder goes down for the season, Beck will get the reins for a couple of weeks at least, then Chad the younger will get his chance late in the season.
If Chad the elder goes down for a couple of weeks then Beck will step in get his chance.
I think its about protecting the future of the franchise, if Henne goes in too early and gets mentally battered like Beck then you’ve just wasted another second round pick and another first or second round next year to get the next sucker/mug.
Patience is what is required, if he is the future you can see him every game in Miami’s run to the superbowl in 2010, until then let him find his feet and get the best start possible.

7th rounder
Will be better when the Panthers go 2-14 ending up with the worst record (I only have this opinion because we have their pick now, I’d still rather see the raiders get the worst record).
I guess I should have thought twice before creating my profile's name.
