What's your opinion? Matt Roth for Quentin Groves

There have been no rumors regarding this possible trade, but Joey Porter's nagging injuries got me thinking (not necessarily a good thing).

I feel that although Matt Roth is improving as a converted OLB, he seems to fit best in a 4-3 scheme. Quentin Groves is getting rag-dolled by TEs because he has not been diligent in his conditioning and strength-training and is a disappointment for the Jaguars. However, I wonder if he is not being used in the proper scheme (as Joey Porter wasn't last year).

My thought is: would Jacksonville be willing to take a small rookie cap hit on Groves to trade him for a more stout 4-3 end in Matt Roth? Derrick Harvey is holding out (the only first round pick to hold out and he is setting a record). They have Paul Spicer and Reggie Hayward, but they could use some depth and some toughness at the DE position. They should have ponied up for Jason Taylor.

Groves is a 3-4 OLB playing for a 4-3 team. Roth is a 4-3 end playing OLB for a 3-4 team.

It would probably hurt the Phins in the short term, but it seems that Quentin Groves could be developed into a Joey Porter type pass rush threat (4.53 in the 40) and it wouldn't hurt him to learn from Porter get some one-on-one tutoring from Pasqualoni. If Porter goes down with an injury, Groves could get a lot of playing time and refine his skill set to be ready to go full bore next year.

As Porter continues to struggle with nagging injuries, it would be nice to be developing a new potentially elite pass rush threat. I could see the Quentins (Moses and Groves) forming a formidable tandem down the road in a few years.

What do you think? Would Jacksonville do it? Would the Trifecta approve?

the problem with the that is

The jags lose out on a better player and also they come out losen money ont he cap space…When we come out with a way better deal,So the only way the might happen is if we give up roth with also maybe a 4th rounder…..But i wouldnt realy mind tho

Groves Hasn't Been That Bad

The Dolphins owned him, but hey, that’s cause it was the Dolphins line.

What? Wow.

Groves had 4 tackles in their first preseason game. 3 solo.

They don’t want our defensive end OLB project that has T-Rex arms.

Good points, but keep in mind

Our defensive end OLB project that has T-Rex arms sacked their quarterback and helped shut down their vaunted running game.

I Have To Add That...

I had an odd feeling on draft day that Del Rio took groves to spite Parcells and that a trade scenario might eventually manifest.

I really don’t know what the Dolphins could actually offer.

Roth? I mean, it’s possible. A veteran with experience and a solid person to add to the rotation…

he said that they had no problem trading up because they believe they are contenders

and they are a solid pass rusher away

remember jt was heavily thrown out to them?

Roth's contract

I believe it was a 5 year contract so I think he has two years left. Same as Ronnie Brown. I think Crowder, as a third round pick, only got a 4 year deal.
