Jay Feely Cut
good riddance. he wasn't bad or anything, but finally the Fins era of J's and Feelys or Fiedlers is over.
the curse has been lifted.
seriously though, carpenter looked good in the TB game and if we can save some money, I'm all for it. As long as we never ever sign Vanderjerk I'm happy. Feely was somewhat overrated too. I'm still pissed about the Houston game last year where we punted instead of attempting the FG. If the dude cant make a 55 yrder, we need to get someone else.

Feely was proven
to be a reliable kicker under pressure. This could be a big mistake. I hope Carpenter steps it up on his kickoffs too.
kinda strange
to hate on feely… the decisions whether to punt or go for the FG were based on Cam-Cam’s ineptness to properly read the situation- not Feely’s inablity to kick.
I too hope this works out, but it does seem strange- probably more a personality issue rather than a football one.
The Jayfiss Report ...one fan's rants
We all agree...
Feely sure was good from 20-40 yards, but after that you get scared he may not even reach the uprights. I haven’t really seen this Carpenter guy, but as long as he can kick 50 yarders and isn’t Olindo Mare (bad accuracy) we have a better kicker. Kickoffs were always short as well, usually reaching only the 10 yard line giving the other team good field position.
Still mad we traded Donnie Jones. I wouldn’t mind seeing Vanderjagt (He played for Parcells on the cowboys? I think that means Parcells doesn’t like him considering he released him).
Mistake?
We’ll see how Carpenter performs. Feely was not liked by Parcells and his crew. Once they saw some positive signs from Carpenter, you know they were going to cut Feely. I could see this being a mistake short term. It might even cost us a game or two this season. But, hopefully, Carpenter gets better as his career goes on.
First off...
I really don’t want to be defending Feely because I am glad he is gone.
HOWEVER, it was definitely Cams retarding coaching that kept Feely from attempting the “iffy” kicks (too far, too muddy, to risky to kick from the 40 when we can go for it on 4th and 12….).
This probably contributed to his good percentage numbers, since he was mostly kicking chip shots.
Anyway, I’m glad he’s gone because of the touchback problem. I hope the new guy can step it up. He didn’t do well in the game, but by all accounts he was booming them in practice. I am still remembering the Mare days, and how spoiled I got expecting every kick to go 5 yds deep.
Admit it or don’t, but the lousy field position last year was in part due to Feely’s wimpy KOs, and unless they decided to let Brandon Fields also boot KOs, Feely had to go.
IMO

Jayfiss & Left
are correct, imo, in stating that cam-cam’s JV style coaching had at least something to do with Feely’s problems on some questionable FG attempts last year.
I guess what I didn’t like about Feely is how he was overtly and openly against Ricky Williams returning. Granted, that has nothing to do with his on-field performance but a team as bad as the dolphins last year should have been welcoming just about anybody – particularly a guy who had a history with the club and is considered to be a pretty mellow and easy going.
By the way...
back to the personnel choice – this is hardly new for parcells.
Remember how he famously cut Vanderjagt a few years ago well into the regular season and brought in Gramatica as I recall. So there is plenty of precedent for Parcells to make this kind of move.
whatever
if we are gonna rebuild lets go all out…including kickers n punters. new waterboys…new popcorn sellers…change it all. GO CARPENTER??!!!!
Its Sunday afternoon.....do you know where your beer is?
Change the FANS TOO??? LOL
I will see the Dolphins win a SUPER BOWL before i die(21 years and counting)
Kicking off not field goals
In my opinion probably doomed him. I don’t have the actual stats, but it sure seemed like he never put the opposing team deep. And in the ONE win we had last year, he almost blew it by kicking it out of bounds after a Miami score against the Ravens, giving them great field position…...let the “SIP” enema clear out every aspect of the “Pod”.
GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!
Quote from the Herald:
Released Dolphins kicker Jay Feely on WQAM: ``You watch practice and you can see the lack of talent that still exists.’‘
What an ass.
