Some believe the Dolphins want Beck to win starting job
David Hyde lays out the facts very well here. And I'm in full 100% agreement with what he is saying. Josh McCown is certainly not the answer at QB. So what does it matter if the team can win 2 more games this year with him at QB? This year, we need to find out if John Beck can be the guy. If he can't, then we look to Chad Henne in 2009 - allowing him to have a full year to learn the offense and whatnot.

Dave makes some good...
and bad points too.
The Good: After 7 years in the league it isn’t unheard of for a QB to suddenly play well. There are plenty of cases. However it is definitely unlikely so to bank on McCown would probably mean the QB question is unanswered.
The Bad: He says Trent Edwards was merely along for the ride and since he was taken after Beck, that Beck has a chance. Well Dave, draft position has precious little to do with NFL success. Otherwise Tom Brady would be holding a clipboard while the likes of Peter Warrick & Chad Pennington (both taken, oh a mere 6 rounds earlier) would be superstars.
Bottom line: The QB position is unsettled and if Beck isn’t the answer then it will most likely be Henne to get his chance.

No, he said Trent Edwards is ranked better because he was QB a few games the Bills won. Even though Trent Edwards didn’t do well in those games. The only game he won (singlehandedly) was his 4 TD toss against, who else, but us. The rest of his 8 starts he was 3 TD / 8 int.

I have been saying the exact same thing since draft day.
Seems like a simple, straight forward way to solve this QB problem that we have had since Marino left.
I don’t want to see McCown play. I would rather take our lumps with a rookie and solve this long term problem over the next two years.
However, if we were going to play a veteran for a year, then I would rather see Favre back there than McCown.

i think many people agree with me (basing on my record breaking thread) that people feel john beck is the answer
- plus i dont feel that mccown puts us in more of a position to win
on a side note…happy birthday to me

i have to believe
as much as we know cam cam was a huge mistake, i do belive that he is a decent offensive mind at the least. you HAVE to believe that a QB taken in the top part of the 2nd round has talent. i mean, they passed on brady quinn for a reason. i have to have faith that randy and cam cam were not just taking a shot in the dark here. put some talent around this kid, give him some time behind a decent off line and he is going to get the recievers the ball…the kid works too hard to not succedd bottom line.

Good article, but once again Ricky gets no love.
“Judging the roster and his work, Parcells figures he inherited, at best, five players to build with for the future: tackle Vernon Carey, center Samson Satele, receiver Ted Ginn Jr., running back Ronnie Brown and Beck. That’s it. That’s a mess.”

I agree with most but,
Judging the roster and his work, Parcells figures he inherited, at best, five players to build with for the future: tackle Vernon Carey, center Samson Satele, receiver Ted Ginn Jr., running back Ronnie Brown and Beck. That’s it. That’s a mess.
This stinks of another Pro-Beck guy.
So judging the roster and his work, Parcells figures he has 5 players to build with huh? I’d say 4. If he figures Beck is a guy to build around then you sign McCown and call it a day. You don’t draft a QB in the 2nd.
The Fins might want him to win the starting job coming out of training camp, hell I do. I wanna see what he can do. But I wouldn’t suggest like this nimrod did that Parcells figured Beck as a guy of the future, or to build around.
I wouldn’t mind Henne sitting a year. I think most QBs should. But if we are 2-10 and Beck is stinking it up, put Henne in there.
Are you picking up what I'm putting down?

Er...
what about jake long? Or is the # 1 overall pick just a training camp body! :)

I disagree Neo.
The article says “at best”.
Ron Wolf would draft a QB to develop every year, regardless the current roster. A 2nd rounder is more than justified considering that there is no known starter. Beck might be a potential starter, but you don’t burn an entire year hoping that it works out when you can run the Beck try-out, and rookie development in parallel.
What’s your downside? That they both 2nd round QBs develop and you can trade them for more than they cost you?
