Report: Dolphins trade Jason Taylor to Redskins
FOXSports.com is reporting that the Miami Dolphins have traded Jason Taylor to the Washington Redskins. In return, the Dolphins will get Washington's 2nd round pick. Also, the Washington Post reports that the Dolphins will also get the Redskins' 6th round pick in 2010.
This move comes after the Redskins lost DE Phillip Daniels to a season-ending knee injury which he suffered during the first practice of training camp.
For the Dolphins, this move ends one of the most drawn-out soap operas in South Florida sports history. Now we can all move on and prepare for training camp, which is less than a week away, without any distractions.
I'll be back later tonight with more thoughts about this reported deal between the Redskins and Dolphins.

How can you say it is not enough
We got a second round pick. When you look at JT’s stats this year, how did he do against the run? We were the worst in the NFL against the run and he was one of those that were responsible.
Now, do not get me wrong, he was great for the franchise, but I feel we have done enough in the draft that should make this team OK. Let’s see how the young players respond and take it from there. Remember we are rebuilding and at least we have a future to look forward to.

wow
yeah that was quick. cowboys vs. redskins should be interesting this year. i say its a good trade. didnt we take JT in the 3rd round. if you can take a 3rd rounder, use him for 10 years and then trade him for a 2nd rounder, you will be doing good.

Welcome Merling!!
Please sign the contract, so that you can be in TC the first day and with money in your pocket. I don’t know about you guys!! But Merling would be The best to replace JT. 8 mil less and a lot of potential with great coaching staff and player ready to learn.
I will see the Dolphins win a SUPER BOWL before i die(20 years and counting)

I agree with you, Bring on Merling and let Taylor dance his arse out of town. Good riddance.

Any Salary Cap Relief?
I do not like seeing Jason Taylor leave… however, with Jason Taylor leaving to the Redskins, does that clear some salary cap space (to get the last two rookies signed)?

Rookie pool
There’s only a certain allotment of $$ in the rookie pool. This shouldn’t effect that (I don’t think). That’s why they’re saying bthe unsigned guys had better get signed because the up front $$ will soon be gone
We're talkin' about PRACTICE....practice!

This is exactly why I
thought all the hub-ub and people getting worked up about JT on TV, was nonsense.
He’s been traded and his time in Miami is done.
Considering where things were, I think a 2nd round pick is not a bad take for him. The market for JT was obviously not great – otherwise I have to think Parcells & Co would have gotten more. This isn’t a regime that generally gives away players or gets suckered in trades.
Now we have an extra pick for next year to fill a need while having to address a hole on in terms of the pass rush and leadership on defense.

Merling is not the answer...
Merling does not play the same position that Taylor would have played in this defense. He is 290 lbs and is more of a DE on the front line of 3 rather than an OLB which Taylor would have been in our defense at 260 lbs. The the more likely scenarios are one of the following: 1. either joey porter stays at SOLB and either Charlie Anderson or Quentin Moses steps in where Taylor would have played in the WOLB… or 2. Porter moves over to WOLB and either Roth moves back into his SOLB spot or Charlie Anderson moves into that spot. Either way, our pass rush is pretty weak this year… heres to hoping for george selvie in next years draft.

I read about the injury in the herald this morning; that was real quick.. I am a sad to see JT go, it would have been wierd seeing him out there without Zach. It sucks getting old doesnt it? good luck and i will be cheering for you

I am happy
The Jason Taylor soap opera was getting old. I wasn’t even planning on him showing up to training camp. I figured he’d probably just retire. As much as I respect what he has done for this organization and the fun I had watching him, it was definitely time for him to go while we could still get compensation. People can say we got ripped off, but I strongly disagree. Taylor is not the same player he once was. I don’t know if it was an injury, indifference due to a bad team or both, but he looked like he lost a step last year. So to get a 2nd and 6th rounder for a guy on the downside of his career who doesn’t even know if he wants to play anymore is pretty good. Also, the Chargers only got a 5th rounder from us for Junior Seau in 2003 so I am definitely happy about this deal despite not getting a 1st rounder.

GREAT trade
It had to be done guys. JT is not bigger than the dolphins…long after these next two years ar up we will be dolphins fans. 2nd rd picks are special players. I for one am glad this leadership values 2nd rd’s and collects them, instead of throwing them away ofr the Feeleys of the world. Like a recent poster said, maybe we can trade the 2nd rd pick for something of value. We need a wr…Moss went for a 4th, Javon Walker was had for a 2nd…its valueable. JT showed some true colors, he is no Dan Marino. He was more worried about fame and wins than we was the Phins tradition and legacy. We will rebuild, we will succeed. Sometimes you have to scratch everything and start over. Jt wasnt about starting over, so let him enjoy being a redskin. We all know they wont win with or without him anyway.

Good trade
Can’t stress the value of a second rounder to a team in our position enough. Also gives the young players more room to step up into leadership role without someone who doesn’t want to be there being the main guy in the locker room. At least it ends this whole sorry saga. It wasn’t cool the way it all went down, but nevertheless, I don’t think any less of Taylor because of it. The man left it all on the field, and we had his best years. Zach was and is a true Dolphin, but any time I think of him I’ll think of JT as well. Now they’re gone. End of an era, really.

Pretty savvy move...
...after both sides mucked up this affair, it’s good that the Dolphins salvaged anything of value. A second-pick is a nice play for a guy that probably wasn’t going to show up for camp. I’m still in JT’s corner when it comes to the entire affair, but I’m a Dolphin fan first and foremost. The other nice aspect of it is that we just played the NFC East this past season, so we won’t be facing the ‘skins for 3-4 more years. This negates any possible revenge games (for JT and Zach), unless we meet them in the Super Bowl and then….well, woo-hoo, we’re in the Super Bowl!
Meanwhile, it’s another kick in the nuts from Parcells to his former team as now the ‘boys have to face JT twice a year.
Go Dolphins.
If I had a tagline, this would be it.

It was a great run
JT and ZT had a great run here in miami unfortunately they always came short of going to the big dance. I can’t even go back 1 game and think that they never gave it all. come sunday those 2 guys gave it 110%, they battled for us. It just sucks that we never seemed to get the right fit with them in here. be it the coaching changes, lack of playmakers in offense espcially with the feidler and wanny days. like the previous poster said it’s an end of an era here in maimi time for a new beginning.
i wish them all the best and somewhere in the back of my mind I really wish that JT has an all pro year so that all the teams that overlooked him would be kicking themselves. he never really had the respect that he deserved. writers always put freeney, kearse and peppers ahead of him, which up to now i still don’t get.
