Favre asks for release from Packers

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3483521

If you're Parcells/Ireland, do you stand put or go after him if he's released? There's something to be said about having one of the greatest qb's to ever play the game on your team.  However, by acquiring Favre, you effectively kill Beck and McCown's careers.  This move would be great for Henne's development, if that's who the franchise sees as the long term answer.   If Beck/McCown are just fill ins until Henne is ready, then I say go for Favre.

I see Beck as our long term solution at the position. I'm not the guy in charge though. So if Parcells has already decided that Beck is a fill in for Henne and isn't giving him the chance to be the next Dan (heck, i'll take next Jay Fiedler), then it's imperative he goes after Favre.   Favre would be the perfect example for Henne, and there's no need for me to enumerate all of the qualities this future HoF has.

UGH.

No. No. NO! I think Favre is amazing and respect him almost as much as our great #13 but he does not fit for us. He wants another ring that he isn’t going to get here for a few years and I just don’t think Favre has 3-4 years left in him. 1-2? Absolutely. I don’t think he would want to play in Miami but even if he did, you are absolutely right, it would ruin John Beck. Why not let him develop and see how good he can be? If he doesn’t pan out then turn to Henne and draft another QB, and another, and another until we get our clear cut starter and a good back up. Again, I think Favre is amazing…...anybody who doesn’t is just a complete moron, but I don’t see the sense in spending a ton of money to bring him to a rebuilding team. Makes no sense to me.

No

You don’t go after Favre. It doesn’t make sense for this team.

Not to mention: he isn’t going to come here. Why would he? He wants to win now.

Good points on money and winning now mentality

No, I agree, I don’t want Favre. It would ruin Beck, who is my pick for the job. But I can’t change Parcell’s mind. If he’s already decided not to give Beck a shot, and if it’s gonna be Henne, then why not bring in someone with that pedigree to help groom Henne. This is pure speculation on my part as to Parcell’s qb decision, but i’m saying if thats the case, I think it would be smart to look into it. Maybe its not about money for him or another ring, but just playing every Sunday. I’m sure his family would welcome the change from Wisconsin to Miami.

Aint happenin...

“Sources” are already saying that the Packers will not release Favre…....and why should they? They want something back for him and will likely want to control where he goes. If Parcells gives up what it would take to get Favre I’ll lose all faith in the whole organization….......Maybe even start rooting for the Jets or something. (YIKES!)

Parcells would never trade for him

You don’t have to worry man. No need to go do a ridiculous thing like root for the Jets, because Parcells isn’t stupid. The only scenario where I saw it possible was if Brett was a free agent. But like Matty said, he wants to contend, and wouldn’t like us anyways.

Very well said.

I was thinking the same thing. If Parcells has already decided that Beck is not the guy, then bring in Favre (McCown will be #2 most likely in any event).
There is no way Beck gets a shot if Favre comes here.

YES YES YES

imagine stable qb:
look what he did to young wr’s in green bay
derek hagan -> improvement
ted ginn -> blossums
wilford—> very effective utilization

game plan
ronnie brown and ricky williams—> control time
brett farve being able to capitalize on oppurtunities and win games

defense
talent is their
leadership is “ehh” but jason taylor will come back soon enough and our defense with this scheme…

OHH CANT YOU GUYS SEE????? what have we been begging for…a QB…i honestly dont see how last year’s packers have more talent then us…add a QB and we are there

how many years do you think Favre will play?

if you think he only plays one more year, do you think he can take the Fins to the SB this year?

If not, do you think that having him play slows down the future QB development for the Fins?

Who Cares about all that

watch us get Favre and then he’ll pull a Trent Green on the Phins and be useless. Lets see him get bashed in the skull by a 350 lb tank
