Maybe Dolphins CBs aren't that bad
Here's another article from espn.com (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insider/columns/story?columnist=joyner_kc&id=3425488), this time by KC "The Football Scientist" Joyner. In the article, Joyner uses his statistics to find the best CB tandems in the league using Yards Per Attempt (YPA) on the two CBs who started 8 or more games. Suprisingly, the Fins' Will Allen and Michael Lehan are tied for fourth! That is far above Dre Bly/Champ Bailey and many other great CB duos.
I know some of you may be thinking, "Well the Dolphins run defense was so bad that opposing teams didn't have to throw much." But this is yards per attempt, not total yards. If anything, this stat is more impressive because you would have to assume the CBs didn't have as much safety help as the safeties had to help out more on the run.
Too bad Lehan just got hurt... Let's hope it's not too serious.

I think what gets missed here...
is how teams didn’t have to spend much time throwing against us as they could just run right over our D.

but...
it doesnt matter how little time they spent throwing, because the statistic shows how successful teams were throwing the ball against those two was per attempt, so how often they threw doesnt really matter.
I agree there has to be something else off in these stats because the fins definitely dont have the #4 CBs in the league, but just saying…

Logically, you would think that when you don't *have* to throw the ball...
when you choose to throw the ball, you will have a higher success rate. But these stats seem to show the opposite.

Well Will Allen...
...is very underrated. I remember last year that one of the SI.com guys, either Peter King or Dr. Z, had Allen as one of their all-pro corners.

Anybody remember
the game vs the Gaytriots last year where Randy Moss made our entire secondary look like a bunch of special needs junior high kids? Maybe Matty could insert the link? Defenders falling down around him wondering what was happening….. I understand that was against one of the best in the league and we had injuries and all but I think it’s safe to say that we could use all the quality help we can get at CB.

Why...
must you bring up bad memories like this?
Cameron Worrell, who was cut, was one of those junior high kids.

Sorry....
It was just as painful for me as I’m sure it was everybody else. I was pretty sure that was Worrell but couldn’t remember…..anyhow, my point was only that an upgrade or quality addition would be very welcome in my opinion. I really miss the days of Surtain and Madison shutting receivers down and picking off passes making opposing receivers look like those junior high kids.

Here's my view
With so many injurys and different guys filling in it’s hard to say just how good or bad we really are. I hope we are as good as those figures seem to suggest. I would like to see that translate into wins though.
