Day at Mini Camp

[Editor's Note by Matty I] A big thanks to KCarr9 for sharing some of his observations from today.  His thoughts can be found after the jump. [end note]

When I arrived at the facility there wasnt alot of people there, maybe 75 at the most, so I was pretty excited that I got to see the dolphins rookies so early. They started by giving us a tour of the bubble, weight room, and team meeting room, that was interesting but paled in comparison to actually watching the rookies play. Im not an NFL scout but im coming into my senior season at the Varsity level for my high school. I was a little disappointed that the defense practiced so far away but the offense ended up being more exciting anyway. I ended up taking some mental notes on a few of the players and thought i would share.

Star-divide

Davone Bess- Seemed to lack elite speed, but showed good athleticism anyway. His route running faded, particularly his posts and fades. Otherwise he caught anything that was close to him.

Jayson Foster- By far the smallest player on the field, I was even bigger than him. However was also the fastest player i saw today, always hustled and ran great routes, and used his speed to create separation.

Lex Hilliard- Was an absolute beast, no matter what he was doing it was full speed. During special teams practice he stole the show. I got him to sign a T-shirt and his calfs are the size of my head. Showed great quickness for his size.

Chad Henne- Sounded like an ogre during his cadence. You could hear him no matter where he was. I also got his autograph and he is absolutely massive as well. His passes were right on the money the entire time.

Jake Long- As advertised, i cant tell you anything anyone else hasn't already. Had the quickest feet of anyone in camp.

All Other WR- all seemed to remind of Derek Hagan, large and athletic, yet dropped many passes.

Philip Merling- Couldn't see much, other than he is a monster, almost comparable to jake long in size.

Thanks for the insight

Its concerning to me that Bess is having trouble with his routes and his conditioning considering the kind of player he was at Hawaii. Glad to hear positive things about Foster, I think he’s my favorite “skill position” player in camp right now lol..

My dads company has had season tickets for as long as i can remember. So my dad got a phone call from the dolphins asking him if he would like to attend.
