Quentin Moses Is Jason Taylor's Shoe-Filler?
I know Anderson is working out there now, but something tells me that if JT is truly done with the Dolphins and no new players arrive then Quentin Moses should have the inside track.
Moses was a guy who was considered to be a steal (he slipped very far) for the Raiders in the 2007 draft.
The Raiders, ever insane, cut the third round pick and he was picked up by the Cardinals. There too he was cut and midway through the season the Dolphins picked him up.
Moses was heralded as a prototypical pass rushing linebacker in a 3-4 and the only knock on him was that he'd have to work harder from a training standpoint. Particularly concerning his overall strength.
Work ethic has been a knock on him, which could be undeserved, and that could also get him cut from Sparano's hard-work Dolphins.
Still, he showed a lot of potential in very limited action last year. Evening racking up 1.5 sacks.
Here's SI's video from his draft profile. He looks great. You all may have seen this from last year.
Just thought you-all might like a refresher.

Thanks for the video. I know that Georgia usually gets top notch recruits. I don’t know much about him but he’s probably a stud looking at his numbers. The highlights also shows his playmaking ability.

great post great link. the vid shows him as a one move pass rusher so i hope JT taught him well last year. but still joey porter could be a good veteran teacher…

I think...
we’ll use whatever we have this year and look to fill the position with a free agent next year, or with our 1st round pick. I think OLB should be our number 1 priority in the next offseason, because, from the looks of it, JT is on his way out, and Porter may not have much left in the tank. Every other position has been infused with youth except that spot.
So where does the replacement come from? Can we expect Moses to become that guy after 2 teams cut him? Will there be any viable options in FA or should we be looking to the ‘09 draft for our version of Merriman or Ware?

Agreed...
Though the fact that the Cardinals and Raiders cast him off means very little.
Moses seemed to come into the league off-balance and constantly getting misinformed.
He gained weight because that was a knock and it hurt his speed.
In Oakland he was a direct victim of Al Davis whimsical and sudden dislike. Davis sent him packing because he wasn’t bigger.
Same with Cardinals, plus they had the depth and again, size was an issue.
He played decently last year and tallied some pressures despite having a handful of downs to play.
I just think he’s worth keeping an eye on. Not the second coming of Lawrence Taylor or anything.

True
not saying we should cast him off as they did, but with that 3-4 OLB being such an important position, I’m not ready to say he can be a good starter for us there. As bad as OAK and ARI are, if he had that explosive talent that you want at that position, they would’ve kept him don’t you think?

Honestly, No
Seriously, Oakland is insane. Davis released him because Davis didn’t like him. It’s that simple. This too was a Kiffin/Davis issue last year. Poor, poor Lane Kiffin.
Also, he had Calvin Pace ahead of him as an OLB and Wisenhunt was using him as a 3-4 defensive end, which he is far too small for.
The Cardinals had more than enough depth at OLB and end so he got cut again.
I’m not making the depth chart or anything. I just think he’s intriguing and has way more upside than anyone else back there now. Everyone else is a stopgap, Ayodele aside. He isn’t going to get you 10 sacks though.
Plus, if you check out Torbor and Anderson’s stats (both have starts under their belts), you’ll see what I mean.
Nothing, absolutely nothing to see there. Excluding Torbor’s ring.
Moses is halfway to Anderson’s sack total after playing a handful of downs.
Basically, we’re in a lot of trouble if #99 is a total no show. A lot.

I liked what I saw of him last year.
I felt like he had earned more playing time. He definitely has potential.

Very Grim Statistics
Charlie Anderson: 3 sacks over 4 years
Reggie Torbor: 5 sacks over 4 years
Quentin Moses: 1.5 sacks in first year
9.5 sacks over 9 years.
Oh, and:
Akin Ayodele: 9.5 sacks over 6 years.
Here’s to hoping Parcells wins this chicken match with JT.
