This just in! Dolphins going to playoffs this season!
Alright, alright.... i know it's far-fetched, but you gotta love the optimism! :)
Good article.

Excerpt:
Ferguson is Miami's new starting nose tackle. He had a reputation as something of a joker among his former teammates in Dallas and with the Jets. He jokingly self-deprecates and laughs easy and loud.
But on this subject he's not kidding.
"We're not far away,'' he says seriously. ``I'm not here to say this is a total rebuilding project. We're not here to say, `We're only going to win two or three more games this year and wait to win more next year.'
``I don't have those kind of years left in me. My years are getting short now. I'm pushing for the playoffs this year.''

Mystery solved!
Well, now we know 1 of the 4 people who voted “too pessimistic” in the 2008 Schedule Analysis poll regarding the 9-7 prediction. :)

I read this earlier...
...and even though it’s obviously far-fetched, this is what you want to hear out of your players.

i agree
110% with ya Matty … belief is the cornerstone of success, and w/out it i dare say …[goes out on a limb]...we all may as well become jets fans…[runs before the hangin party can assemble]

didn't read it yet
but I assume that they are promoting some new ticket agency, cause the only way they are going to the playoffs in the afc this year is with tickets.

You Know...
This all isn’t as far fetched as it seems.
How many games did the Phins lose by 3 points last year?
How bad was that team?
If the offensive line improves and a quarterback emerges then this is a very good team.
The defensive line is already much, much, much better.
Secondary is still the concern. Still… I like the optimism.

... I know.
Right on Phinisher.
We may have hit the 1-15 mark, but if my memory serves me right, we lost about 5-6 games within the 3 point margin and one or two others within 10 points. I know this is and IF reasoning, but if we had won those games we’d be 6-10 or 7-9… then Cam Cameron would have remained our head coach. I really can’t say that it’s all that bad we lost 15 games because we now have Sparano, Parcells, and Ireland.

Margin of points per game:
WAS -3
DAL -17
NYJ -3
OAK -18
HOU -3
CLE-10
NE-21
NYG-3
BUF-3
PHI-10
PIT-3
NYJ -27
BUF -21
BAL +6
NE -21
CIN -13
That makes 1 win, 6 games with a margin of 3, and 2 more with only margins of 10. If this team is 10 points better then it was last year, that translates into 9 wins. Last season it took 10 wins to make the playoffs in the AFC.
It should also be noted that of our 16 games, 6 were against playoff teams, and 3 of those 6 were all within 3 points. Our average opponents record was 8.6 – 7.4.
I’m not nearly as optimistic as Ferguson. It’s not that I don’t believe in the Dolphins, because any true fan deep down inside believes their team can win the Super Bowl in any given season, I’m just tempering my expectations to where I’d be satisfied with a 6 win season, instead of absolutely crushed if we didn’t make the playoffs.

Optimism
I’m too gun shy to be optimistic. I’ve been swinging to the “next season” branch for a long time. I’m just going to be a dolfan, cheer when we do something good and piss off Jet fans at the local sports bar even if we stink. I can always find enjoyment getting drunk and talking trash to some New Jersey reject.

Optimistic...
but not crazily so… while I don’t think we will make the playoffs, I wouldn’t be shocked if we did… I’m expecting between 7 or 8 wins this year and the playoffs another year or two down the road…
