Your Jason Cole story on JT

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AjfcT8Rfcdg_fVJtKn6jDBBDubYF?slug=jc-taylorwinning051208&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

Here is an excerpt:

"LOS ANGELES – Jason Taylor has never been this close to a championship in his professional career. This may be dancing, not football, but winning is winning.

That helps explain the hardened, competitive smile of satisfaction that crossed his face approximately an hour after the latest episode of ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars.” He was changing quickly in his makeup trailer as he bantered with wife Katina, agent Gary Wichard and some friends from Florida who came to town for the show.

Katina then interjected about how much Taylor was really starting to enjoy it, getting into the artistry of the dancing and the action. That’s when someone else blurted, “Really, you love to win.”

“No question,” Taylor said, emphatically, that smile punctuating the moment as he hustled to get ready for a post-show party. Taylor, who is shooting to stardom at a rapid rate even by Hollywood standards, can’t get enough of the success he has had over the past two months of dancing. Success that has eluded him as one of the top defensive ends in the NFL for the past 11 years while playing nobly for a Miami Dolphins franchise that has drifted more like a lost whale the past six years."

Not such a big deal.  Just feeding speculation that JT will fly the NFL coop for Hollywood.

It could happen, I suppose....

What do you think?

yawn!!!

really does anyone honestly believe that JT is going to “take hollywood by storm” just because he is doing well in a dance off? And how much is he going to make doing Intro to hollywood 101? one-two million a year, if that? how is the boz doing? How about Jerry Rice? making millions and movies?

So JT is going to turn down 16-20 million playing football over the next two years to star/live with jose canseco and the likes for a couple hundred g’s….. right…. sounds like he’s hoping that hollywood will let him renegotiate his football contract…

HOF

Not to mention several people have said that he will proabbly need another good year or 2 just to make sure he’ll get into the hall of fame.

I'm with Jason...

...actually both Jasons for that matter. JT has earned the right to plan for his future away from football. He has given gallons of sweat and blood for a franchise that has been sinking deeper into the muck with each passing year. While I do think that the new bosses are not like the old bosses and that their approach has been great to date, they also need to back off of JT. This team’s turnaround might take too long for JT to hoist the Lombardi. I hope he retires as a Dolphin and sticks around to lead by example because once the whistle blows and everybody steps between the white lines, there is nobody better. I’m not going to pass any judgment on JT at this point in his career. In my eyes, he has done everything I could have hoped for as a Dolphin. Anything beyond this point is gravy.

As for JCole, I don’t understand all the hatred. I think he’s a very fair-minded journalist who has always reported on the level. When he did a fan Q&A for the Herald, he was very accessible and forthcoming. He was usually a step ahead of the coaching staff in keeping the fans up to date. The guy answered tens of thousands of questions for years during the most difficult stretch of Dolphins team history, and he did it in addition to his regular reporting duties. If he has a personal relationship with JT and gets some inside information, I’d like to know about it even if it’s not particularly good news. This is the slowest time of the year for football fans and every little thing tends to get blown out of proportion. Cole is just doing his job.

Go Dolphins.

If I had a tagline, this would be it.

I like your comments

about not passing judgment on JT.

I read a lot of fans here who keep going on about JT being under contract and this constant obsession with the rules and how much they pay him. Well guess what? The dolphins have profited immensely from Jason Taylor, far and above what they pay him. While you see team after team, (hello cincy! for example) dealing with players engaging in assorted thuggery off the field, in JT the dolphins have a model citizen and role model for the community. Not to mention all the publicity, jersey’s, and JT merchandise out there.

He is the face of the dolphins by far and away in public and in the league. That much was obvious yet again last season during that London game when we saw that 30 foot JT thing.

All this ‘under contract’, ‘the rules’ etc – I say rubbish, life isn’t so cut and dry and there’s more to it than winning games.

Yes

There is more to life than “winning games.” But there isn’t more to a football team than winning games.

If Taylor isn’t fully committed to football, then he needs to leave Miami and play somewhere else.

I never said...

...that I was okay with losing games. Never in my post does it even mention that losing is acceptable as long as JT is happy. At this point in his career, however, I don’t think that JT has to prove his level of commitment to anybody. In my opinion (and that’s all this is, after all), JT can dance, golf, act, sing, skip, wear his shoes on the opposite feet…I don’t care as long as he’s lining up in the Fall in aqua and orange. All of this Parcells vs. Taylor stuff is just turning into a diversion to kill the time. If and when JT gets to camp I believe he will waste no time in extinguishing the notion that his heart isn’t in it anymore.

As for the HOF stuff (see below), I believe JT gets in on the first or second ballot. Stats or no, he has been one of those players that other teams have had to plan their entire offensive strategy around. And that’s all while playing on some pretty horrific teams. I like the Butkus comparison.

Go Dolphins.

If I had a tagline, this would be it.

Lets all watch Care Bears and the heck with football.

Jason Taylor is supposed to be a leader on this team. Leaders lead by example. They lead by example all the time, not just when its convenient for them. Parcells and the guys here at the OTA’s are committed to making this team better.

I’ve always been a Jason Taylor fan. However, I find my loyalty to him, as a fan, wavering as his loyalty seems to be wavering towards the Dolphins.

Football is your wife and Hollywood is the mistress. Make the commitment JT.

Devils Advocate...

OK I guess I’m gonna be the one to do this and then get everyone bashing me but oh well here goes..

First off I think JT is already a HOF player albeit not a first ballot but will get in just by his numbers.

Secondly to all the people saying that JT has given his blood, sweat and tears to the Dolphins and deserves a chance to play for a trophy is bullshit. Playing football is his job and he should be giving his all every play cause thats what we pay him 7+ mil a year to do. A Lomardi Trophy is a luxury in the NFL and not every player is gonna have a chance to get one thats just how it is. And if all of you want to give him a “SHOT” at winning one at the expense of the franchise then you arent true fans. Unless someone gives us what BP wants for him, then no we shouldnt give him up. Let me state I love JT as much as anyone but he is under contract to the Dolphins!!!!

~JT has earned the right to plan for his future away from football~
As long as his planning dont come during OTAs or any other mandatory activity when he is under contract to be working for the Dolphins.

I’ll say again I love JT (have 2 jerseys) but I LOVE the DOLPHINS more than any singular player and thats how I will always be.

HOF Sad Reality

JT’s numbers are good but in no way will he get in the hall of fame in the first decade (or two) of his retirement.

Kevin Greene isn’t in the HOF. Nuff’ said.

(though I’ll entertain the touchdowns and interceptions as an argument for Taylor being better than Greene).

Taylor needs to get his stats up and (ironically) probably stay a Dolphin for the rest of his career. The HOF loves the loyal guys who finish their careers in the same place even if playing for a loser. Maybe especially playing for a loser.

Dick Butkus anyone?

Plus, he will win a Super Bowl here in 2009. It’s really that simple.

:D

Greene

played with far better talent than JT and that, to me, is not even close. As I recall, Greene played in something like 5 or 6 conference championship games while JT hasn’t even been in 1.

You already mentioned the interceptions & touchdowns numbers which favor JT. In addition, JT’s been to more pro-bowls and been voted more often as an all-pro.

Finally there are some intangibles in that JT has a very different reputation and persona than Greene to say the least. JT’s done work off the field, has maintained a spotless image and so forth, throughout his career. I know people will say that doesn’t matter for HOF consideration I argue that it does as we’ve seen plenty of players shut out for off the field problems.

Yeah well,

he’s a poo poo head.

Just kidding. I agree. I think he should get in if he can play a couple more years.

The biggest stat, the one that just pops off the page, is JT’s 41 forced fumbles. That’s ridiculous awesome. When I wrote the previous post I wasn’t aware of that stat.

Greene had 5 picks to JT’s 7. Greene also had 160 sacks. That’s like, a lot of sacks. Greene should be in the HOF.

If Taylor can get 20 to 30 more sacks, another pick or two and a few forced fumbles, maybe a Super Bowl ring, and like 700 more tackles (and retire a Dolphin) I think he could get Barry Bonds inducted if he asked for it.

Lets look at the numbers.

JT is 33 yrs old and #14 all-time in sacks. And he’s got 6 Pro-Bowls. At best, he is borderline. My opinion, he’s still on the outside looking in.

He is virtually at the same situation as Michael Strahan was 3 years ago at the age of 33. Virtually same amount of sacks (within 3 or 4), same amount of Pro-Bowls and no Super Bowl championship. Three years later, Strahan has added to his resume a Championship, top-5 all-time sacks leader, another Pro Bowl, and the obvious veteran leader on his Championship team. AND, he’s played his entire career with the same team. Three years ago his team was coming off a 6-10 season. Heck, in 2006 the Giants were 8-8. Plus, halfway thru last year they didn’t look like Champions.

I’d like to see JT come back and provide the veteran leadership to, hopefully, bring this team to that place where they can compete in 3 years for a championship. By then, barring major injuries each year, his career will undoubtedly be a first ballot HoF body of work.

You nailed it. JT has to come back and I think he’s merely grumbling while he does so. JT is a throwback.

He’s a tough, fight through the pain and play every down type player. Learning how to dance will not change that.

He isn’t retiring and Parcells isn’t letting him go. I’m not good at math but…
