John Clayton likes Henne.
I was just watching the 6 o'clock Sportscenter and they had Senior Writer John Clayton on to talk some NFL football. When posed the question, "Which rookie quarterback will have the biggest impact in 2008?" Clayton didn't hesitate in responding, "Chad Henne." Clayton explained that Miami's offense would be predominantly run-heavy, which could suit Henne well if he gets a chance to start. I think that McCown will get the nod for the Opening Kickoff Weekend, but I'm right with Clayton in thinking Henne will be the man by the end of the season.

To be fair..
the question was “which rookie QB?” I think he may be right because I feel like Ryan will struggle his first season in ATL.. that’s just not a good situation for a rookie QB right now. Flacco has a huge jump from 1-AA to the pros and probably won’t start right away if at all this season. Brohm probably won’t see the field while Rodgers tries to prove himself. I think Henne may have the best chance to make an impact, but it depends on how Beck looks.

Thank you, kindly.
It’s close to finals week, and the past few days have not been kind to my sleeping pattern. Props for catching my mistake!

Don't under estimate Beck
I’m not saying he’s the man, but don’t count him out.

a reminder
doesn’t henne have the same sort of stigma that roethlisberger has?
perhaps ben is a little more mobile…
but two tough guys who excel in a run-first offense…
i could very well be wrong…
still, i think this is beck’s job to lose…
and i’m more than okay with that…
he wasn’t necessarily put in a position to succeed last year…

Interesting Observation on
Big Ben. I think early in his career he was seen as something of a caretaker/game-manager type QB. Last year though, he really took the team on his back and I think at least, showed he is a top 5 QB that can carry a team and win games on his own.

Also if you look at...
The teams and conditions that Beck had to play against, the odds were against him. By all accounts the line, the team, and everyone in the organization gave up, while he was trying his ass off to get a win for us. Give him the credit for at least trying. Now, with that said, he is going to have a field day behind this new offensive line, and with new receivers, and ricky and ronnie healthy from day 1, there is no reason to believe that he can’t be a great quarterback.
Beck to Ginn all day long bitches!!!!!!!

What I didn't like about Beck's play last year...
is how he seemed oftentimes to just zero in and lock onto his receivers at times – the jets game where he threw several picks was a good example of that imo. As well as the fact he honestly just looked lost out there.
There’s no question he didn’t have a good supporting cast, but to me, aside from that, he just looked over his head.
So let’s see what he does this year, if he’s more in control and can see more of the field.

So I'm not called biased...
Henne has a history, in college anyway, of locking onto receivers as well as having almost no mobility in the pocket.
Both of these guys have flaws and the real question is which, if either of the two, can polish up their game and evolve into a true starter.

McCown.
Does anyone think McCown has even the slightest chance of starting this year?
by Daniel52 on May 2, 2008 1:08 PM EDT 0 recs
Yes, absolutely...
that he’s the answer, I don’t know, but he definitely has a chance to start.
This is a new offense to all 3 guys and McCown has way, way more experience than Henne & Beck and at least knows what the NFL game is like
I wouldn't be surprised if McCown gets some starts, especially in the beginning.

Clarification:
Above should read, that yes I absolutely think McCown has a chance of starting. However, whether he is the answer is very much in question.

oh yeah
he definitely has a very good chance to start… but i can safely say that he is most certainly NOT the “answer” at QB. he’s had plenty of opportunity in his career to step up and be the man- hasn’t happened so far, and i don’t see it happening here with the current supporting cast.
but yeah, his experience does give him a leg up over the young guys- but only in the beginning. should be exciting to watch these guys battle it out.

I agree.
I feel kind of bad for McCown when I think about the situation he was dealing with in Oakland… and Detroit… and Arizona. I know Miami won’t be THAT much better, but the core offensive players are there and developing, so it should be interesting to see what McCown can do when he has some play-makers at his disposal. McCown has good size and the experience factor should not be underestimated.

He’s the typical journeyman QB. Eventually he’ll wind up in a place where he’ll lead his team to the playoffs after taking over for an injured QB, like a Todd Collins. But that’s as far as he’ll go.
