latest cuts Baker & Fifita

No real surprise here... the phins just cut QB Baker and DT Fifita...

The first of what should be a number of the below average players signed to fill out the roster over the last year. I suspect Holiday, Beck, Roth, Porter, & Crowder should be on notice after the draft and FA signings. ugh i hate this seventy five word limit needed to post a little tidbit of news...

Long Time Lurker...

Hey all! Long time lurker, first time poster…im now a part of the Phinsider Phamily :-)...not a real surprise with these two corpses being cut, i guess we’re going with 3 qbs this year…and Fifita was pushed out because of sheer numbers and he wasnt very impressive last year…just noticed on NFL Network that Dominique Byrd-TE got cut by the Rams today, if im not correct wasnt he a high draft pick out of USC a few years ago? Think he would be worth a shot? Has to be better than Martin lol…ill never forget that scrub whiffing on a block and gettin Beck killed from the blindside last year on more than a few occassions…

i dont think anybody on that list “Holiday, Beck, Roth, Porter, & Crowder” are gonna be put on notice except maybe roth. Holliday could be a valuable asset as a veteran with our young defensive line. Beck is almost guaranteed to get a chance because nobody can deny he was excellent in college and has been workin real hard during the off season. Roth has underacheived so he may be gone or this might be his last year even if he does make the team. joey porter has too much in guaranteed money to be released and this year he might actually be able to play like he wants to, rushin the passer but not from the dline. As for channing crowder, and this is hard to say, he might just be our best linebacker with the departure of Zach Thomas so we need him… even if he doesnt no where london is.

first off

I only created that funny list because you need to have 75 words in order to post a diary….

that said – I think it’s a pretty good list… I’m pretty sure 2 of them will be gone before game 1 and four of them won’t be with the team for game 1 of 2009…

that’s why I made a list of guys on notice…

if I had to guess – Beck and Holliday will be gone before camp is done… but porter and/or roth could go too (my guess is the 3 may be playing for 1 spot? if some of the younger guys step up)

and unless crowder greatly improves over last season, I just don’t see him in the long term plans…

roth and porter should never even be put in the same sentence. porter i guarantee will be a starter unless there is an injury. if u dont see crowder in our plans then who do u see at mlb? we didnt draft any and it takes a year or two usually for a college lb to contribute.
as for beck… thats your opinion

well since there

has been some speculation that the teams wants Roth to either bulk up to be a DE in the 3-4 or trim down and play as a big LB… I see roth sliming down and going for porters job but that is speculation at best right now…

now as to this…
~ we didnt draft any and it takes a year or two usually for a college lb to contribute. ~

seriously, most first round LB’s start game 1, especially the ones taken early, and I expect miami will draft early next year too… Plus they signed or traded for 5? 6? LB this year…. and with salary cap space, if porter shows he’s washed up in camp (aka playing like last season) he could be gone if the triad doesn’t see him as the future.

third of that is

already off the books… granted it’s still expensive to cut him this year, but it’s a much smaller cap hit, and they have plenty of room to absorb it this season if they don’t see him playing next…

But, if you’re in love with porter, and think last season was just capers misusing him… then i’m behind you 100%. I’d love to see him play like he did in pittsburgh, it’s just I don’t think the current admin sees that happening.

im not in love with porter but toward the end of the season he showed he cud play.

ok lets forget that topic and discuss somethin else relatin to ur post: derek hagan.
do u think hell be releassed after the miserable season last year? or does this regime has the same view as cam cam that hagan has “potential”?

yeah...

I would have though he was in trouble, except i haven’t heard of anyone challenging him for his spot…
WR are funny, they take a long time to develop and I just the feeling that these guys think there is enough there to take a chance on him???? I don’t know, for some reason, hagan is one of those guys who I seem more at peace with what he is then the rest of fins fans, plus he works cheap!

All that said, I could have very easily added him to my list….had his name crossed my mind while i was trying to come up with 75 words so I could post the link, that two um less then average players had been cut.

appreciate the welcome guys, nas is one of my favs lol but anyhow, does anyone think Kelly Popinger lol will have any chance to make the team, he’s been pretty decent for BYU and he has good genes…IMO theres no chance beck is gone unless he stinks up the joint this year…i think he has a very good shot at winning and keeping the starting job. last year shouldnt be an indictment on the kid, he had nothing but trash around him offensively…hopefully ginn will mature, wilford will make some nice possession grabs to move the chains, fasano will be a security blanket and our line will give him some time, he has the tools to make it happen…dont forget about having ronnie and ricky back there, that will help ANY young QB…im kinda hoping Bess comes on the scene and snatches the slot WR job and excels, i really like the kid…

I honestly believe Beck has the goods, hes smart, mature, has a nice arm, hes mobile in the pocket if necessary, u put carson palmer in our train-wreck offense last year with his best player out for the year and he’d look like crap too i would think…

For the Record, i could honestly care less whether or its Henne or Beck as our franchise QB, just bring us back to respectability. These are two young, talented qbs…one of them is bound to pan out hopefully…
