Starting at QB for the Fins....vote here!
So now we have a full slate of QB's following this draft.
We all know about John Beck who started a few games last year before going back to the bench. He'll be 27 this season and looking to win the starting job. Beck was Mueller and cam-cam's chosen QB as they specifically tabbed him as their guy.
Then there's Josh McCown signed as the nominal veteran backup. He's got oodles more starting experience than any other QB on this roster. He's been both a starter and backup in the league. While he's been on a few teams now, he's only 2 years older than Beck.
Finally we know have Chad Henne who is 4 years younger than Beck, at 22 (23 by season's opening).
Parcells has been known to favor veteran QB's throughout his coaching career. However, he has gone with a rookie, one he drafted #1 overall no less, in the form of Drew Bledsoe.
Now fast forward to the opening kickoff. Who do you think is the starting QB for the Fins? Vote and add comments to explain your selection below...

I see Josh McCown as the starter
With John Beck as the second string quarterback (getting a few reps with the starters every week and preparing for the game as the backup) and Chad Henne working with the Scout team.
Starting next year, it is going to be interesting to see Beck and Henne duel it out in traning camp and preseason to win the starter’s job with a full year learning under David Lee, learning the playbook, getting stronger, working on the fundamentals, and getting yelled at by Parcells and company.
If they both progress, I see McCown traded or released and the team going with Beck and Henne or Henne and Beck as their two guys.

I agree but I think
Beck will get a chance to start after the bye week. Unless McCown is doing a great job. IMO McCown will be the stop gap QB until one of the other QB takes over and become the Franchise QB for years to come.

I don't see McCown starting at all
Unless he just blows Beck and Henne out the water (sorta speak). What purpose would it serve to have him start? To be honest, I think Beck will start, just because Bill/Jeff/Tony want to be sure about him. But I don’t see him gettina a long leash. Henne is in there asap if Beck struggles after the 1st few games.
You savvy?

Eventually...Henne
I don’t think Henne was brought in for competition, he was brought in to be developed into the eventual starter. Bill, Jeff and Tony didn’t scout John Beck, didn’t draft/sign him and haven’t coached him, so it’s more than possible they never wanted him. McCown I think will be the starter for now, and Henne will spend the season learning the offense and rhythm, while waiting to take over next year.

Whoever proves himself
Has everybody forgotten the reports that claimed Beck was high on Dallas draft board last year? I wouldn’t be so quick to send him packing. Whoever the best player is should start bottom line. I believe that will be Beck….at least initially. McCown has shown flashes of serious ability but can’t be consistant. Career back-up. Even if they brought Henne in to take the job, unless he absolutely sets the world on fire in camp, I think he should sit and learn like Beck was supposed to. Maybe see some playing time in “slop time” or late in the year possibly but that’s about it. If Henne is to be “the guy” then don’t rush him. Beck COULD be “the guy” and we can use McCown up till Henne is ready. Just my 2 cents anyhow. What do you think?

I believe Beck will start
this season at least. McCown is the buffer between Beck and Henne, so Henne can learn and absorb everything before he’s thrown into the fire. Beck will get a chance to show what he can do, and if he’s good, he continues starting. If he absolutely sucks, McCown steps in and holds the fort down until Henne can take over. In the next 3-4 years, we have 3 scenarios at QB. 1) Beck is a stud, Henne is a backup. 2) Beck is terrible, released, and Henne takes over. 3) Beck is solid, but unspectacular, and becomes Henne’s backup when Chad is ready. One way or another I see Henne being a starter in the future. McCown probably won’t be here once we find out what we have in Beck and Henne, unless of course his career takes off. I was against picking a QB on the first day before the draft, mainly because I figured it would have to be pick 32 at the latest. The fact that we got maybe the best QB out of the draft at pick 57, I can’t argue with that. And looking at the rest of the draft, we obviously weren’t looking to get anybody outside of the trenches or the running game.

That's reasonable Nicky...
My feeling here is that yes, there will be competition for sure. We all know McCown has a history in the NFL so he won’t get the benefit of the doubt as a ‘developing’ player or ‘protege’. The thing is, I don’t think Beck will get that status either. I think he’ll be judged the same as McCown – produce this season or look for another job.
Whereas Henne by being a 23 year old rookie and BP & Co’s chosen QB – gets much more time.

except for a few things
how can beck succeed when everyone knows he will only play as long as Henne isn’t ready(team mates included) and Henne will play once he’s ready (being BP’s pick). How can he take a leadership role and be taken seriouly by his teammates who know he’s just keeping Henne’s seat warm.
Knowing that he’ll be yanked at some point (kind of like last season) how can he feel confident enough to lead the team and make the passes needed to win, when he knows after some mistake he’ll have to turn over his spot to Henne.
2nd, why is Beck considered 'readier' then Henne, who was a 4 year starter at michigan...where as Beck takes a couple years off and then takes a couple years to have some good years at byu (hardly a big ten quality football program)
The sad part is, I like Beck. I liked the pick last year, and if you look up my posts from last season, I though he got a raw deal from Cam. Honestly, I think he’s getting a raw deal from BP right now. But the reality of the situation is he’s not BP’s guy and BP’s ego can’t have a muleron guy leading HIS team. It’s Best for Beck and Best for the team for him to go some place else now.

Will Beck get a chance to prove himself?
I am curious to see if John Beck even gets a chance to compete for the starting job. NFL history has proven that coaches and GMs always play the guys they drafted rather than a leftover player from a previous regime. In recent years we’ve seen this happen in Chicago, where top brass stubbornly played Cedric Benson over Thomas Jones. We’ve seen it years ago in Buffalo where the front office insisted on playing an ineffective Rob Johnson over a proven winner in Doug Flutie. Sure, the fins front office maky say they like Beck, that they scouted him last year in Dallas, etc… but this regime also said some great things about Lorenzo Booker, only to trade him weeks later.
Chad Henne seems like a good QB, and I’d obviously want our coahes to play the best guy, but I’ve also liked everything I’ve seen from John Beck, and I hope everyobdy gets an equal opportunity to prove their worth.

sorry to say
no – beck won’t get a fair shake and oddly enough that is how it should be… the triad made their choice at #57… you can’t have two QB’s of the future and they didn’t choose Beck…. So once Henne’s name was announce the focus of this coaching staff needs to be get Henne ready to assume the role of dolphins QB… something Cam was woefully inadequate at last season… and spending time energy on trying to get Beck ready to be QB will be at the expense of Henne’s development (kind of like giving cleo lemon snaps last season - what did that do to help the future of the dolphins?)
BTW – Ralph insisted on Rob over Flutie not the front office. but that is another story.

to be honest...
all you can say…is what the fudge….
I really want to say John Beck, but the way this front office is goin…it will be Henne…
In perspective it is liek parcells spent a 1st round overall pick on henne….he just doesnt take offensive players that high (especially not qb’s)...
its gonna be henne because it fits the system, but i am really hoping it is john beck….
Out of the 2….1 of them is going to be special…you can just feel it

don't worry, be happy
I remember when the Dolphins had a young athletic QB that lead them to the superbowl. Then they drafted another young QB. Many of my friends told me that the new guy would win the starting job, but I still liked the guy that took us to the big game. Well my friends were right, Marino won the job over Woodley and the rest is history. My point? Can’t we just happy that we have 3 potential starters and one or two might be good enough to lead us back to greatness?
