Why another RB?
What am I missing? I know that we must have faith in the Trifeca, which I do; however, why draft a RB that is listed as a potential FA in one draft guide (Lindy's) and, in the Sporting News, he's not even listed as a FA. In Pro Football Weekly draft guide, he's not there. Secondary help or another LB, - how about a WR? Why draft someone that could be had AFTER the draft? Anyone?

If he's the best available, then you take him
Parcells has done this in the past, passing up higher rated players or players who were needed more, but he doesn’t think that they can make the team.
He took Patrick Crayton in the 7th round, a quarterback/receiver from tiny Northwest Oklahoma State, when he probably could have picked him up as an UDFA.
Turned out okay in this case, but there are misses as well as hits.
Parcells is not infallible. He does a great job finding UDFA that make the team and contribute on special teams, sometimes better than draft picks.
I think that he thinks Hilliard is a better fullback than Hillis.

I don't get it, either.
Even if DolphDallas is right that BP, etc., thought Hilliard would be a better FB than, say, Hillis, either one of them is still just a FB. Why burn a draft pick on a guy you can pick up in UDFA, who plays a position that has very little impact in the NFL, when there are WRs available, a position you need help at, who likely won’t still be available at the end of the draft?
The only thing I can think of is that they’re planning a very conservative, controlled, short passing game to complement a smash-mouth run-oriented offense. The problem with that is that for a passing game oriented more to the TE and backs than the WRs, Hillis would be the MUCH better FB, given his terrific hands.
Or maybe they’re just figuring that, whatever kind of passing game they try, they’re going to need blocking help in the backfield to keep their young QB alive while the new O-line gels. Hilliard probably is a better blocker than Hillis. He’s certainly bigger.
Really, the thing I don’t get isn’t that we took Hilliard; it’s that we took Hilliard AND Parmele. If we think we need a FB, pick one - ONE - to draft, and grab another in UDFA if you want some competition. As it is, we used TWO draft picks on guys who play the same low-profile position and both of whom probably would still be available in UDFA.

Agree totally on the FB issue
but I think Parmele will come in to be a RB not a FB. There was a highlight clip linked in one of the draft threads (cant remember which one) that shows his ability.. he reminds of a taller Maurice Jones-Drew, especially with the size of his legs and the power he generates. I’m beginning to think that he will compete for the #2 RB spot if he has a good camp and if he can handle it, Ricky may be dealt before the deadline… or maybe I’m way wrong and he’ll be a decent third back if Ricky or Ronnie goes down

I was pretty underwhelmed by that video.
There were only a few plays in which he ran through tackles. In all the others, he was primarily running away from people, which he’s just way too slow to do in the NFL. I’m not saying he won’t be a good power back. I’m just saying I didn’t see it in that video.

One further comment...
Peyton Hillis has had back issues, which is not a good thing as far as fullbacks go.
David Lee was his offensive coordinator at Arkansas and is now the Quarterback coach here in Miami.
If he didn’t object to Hilliard over Hillis, there’s probably a good reason why.
There is also a good probability of seeing a two RB split backfield offense, which would suit not only Ricky and Ronnie, but also Parmele and Hilliard.
Ever since Quincy Carter, Parcells won’t trust a pothead, so the Parmele pick makes a lot of sense from the Weed perspective.
Parcells likes running fullbacks.

Thank you all
for your input. With Hilliard being drafted at #204, I noticed that there were a handful of DB players that could have been developed – Josh Barrett, Arizona St went to Denver at 220; Caleb Campbell, 6-2, 230, Army went to Detroit at 218; Chris Horton, UCLA, went to Washington at 249. These were all good secondary men. I would pick one RB especially when there are 5 total on the roster now (including 2 FB – Mauia and Grigsby). Didn’t Parcells also pick up someone named “Crocker”? Isn’t he a RB / FB? Well, they know what they’re doing. Again, thank you all for your information. I did get to see both sides, which is good.

As I said before
These two backs don’t FUMBLE and with our new O-line we can use all the down hill runners we can get. Remember this is Ricky’s last year as a fin and Ronnie may not be fully ready at the start of the season.
