Chad Henne?
I was perplexed by this pick. I would have taken Patrick Lee or Justin King instead.
I think this is insurance in case John Beck doesn't work out, although I thought that was what Josh McCown was.
Parcells and Co. didn't try to trade up to the back of the first round to get Henne, he let him drop to him in the Miami #57 slot. He didn't waste the #32 pick on Henne.
Parcells and Co. got a first round QB for the price of a back of the second round pick. He can let him sit and develop without pressure to play early. He has an outstanding quarterback coach in David Lee. Miami will focus on a power running game while trying to develop its receivers and tight end. It is a pretty good environment for Henne to develop into a game manager quarterback a la Bob Griese.
If Beck works out, you have a solid back up quarterback who could start in case of injury. If Beck doesn't work out, at least you have an alternative in the pipeline already under development.
One thing I do like about the Trifecta: The Quarterback position is a priority and and will be addressed, one way or another.
Maybe they'll sign Nick Hill (Southern Illinois) as an UDFA and a small Illinois college QB can beat out a hyped michigan QB again like Tony Romo beat out Drew Henson.

We heard all along
That Parcells and Co liked Henne. They didn’t take him with the 1st pick in the 2nd rd and I don’t think Bill/Jeff/Tony was gonna make it a priority to get him. But when he just fell into their laps with the 2nd pick in rd 2 it was too much for them to pass by. I said it before, I’m glad they didn’t put all thier eggs in the Beck basket.

hmmm
would have rather they taken someone at a position with more of a need? CB or WR or OG with that pick and gone for more of a project for QB – say dixon or J Johnson (btw: I didn’t see where he went?)
I just think Beck should have gotten more of a shot to win the team… Now every bad game Beck has, if he survives camp, is going to be a question of when is Henne going in…. Not a good situation, it’ll most likely best if he’s cut in camp.

Maybe not the best situation
but he’ll face harder situations than that in the NFL. If he is the guy, he needs to man-up and show it.

Henne, on if any other teams than the St. Louis Rams were interested in him: “St. Louis, Baltimore was up there, Chicago talked about it a little bit, Seattle, Atlanta drafted early but they were also interested. There were a bunch of teams with need for quarterbacks who contacted me.”
Henne, on if the Dolphins told him he would be picked: “They pretty much said, ‘If you’re around in the second round, we’ll take you,’ It happened to be later, but it’s a good fit for me.”
