Chris Crocker Scouting Report From ESPN

2008 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 59 | Key
Alert: BT

Comment: Crocker is fast, tough and experienced. He has solid play strength and is at his best against the run. He has good intangibles. He communicates in the secondary and has tremendous value as a core special teams player. He reads his keys, reacts quickly and attacks downhill against the run. He has the speed to run the alleys while maintaining leverage on the ball. He can avoid trash and use his hands to ward off and shed blocks. He is a physical insert player who can be reckless with his body. He can cover a lot of ground quickly and has good range potential in coverage. He can pedal and open his hips. He has the ability to match up with backs and tight ends. But Crocker is inconsistent in coverage. His pattern recognition is questionable, and he sometimes seems uncomfortable in deep coverage. He is most natural in short zones. He doesn't always take proper angles to the ball. He sometimes fails to wrap up on tackles.

Crocker
I know there had been some questions about his strengths and weaknesses, hopefully this helps.

For the record...
Sparano said he was a great cover guy, that gets his hand on the ball. Maybe ESPN has that part wrong. Maybe I'm not helping with this...

Whatever his strengths and weaknesses are....
I'm sure he'll be an upgrade over Cameron Worrell and Renaldo Hill.  Did anyone else see the play last year where it looked like the two of them ran into each other and Randy Moss caught the ball in the end zone?

ahhhh
bad memories again..  Worrell falling on his keester while Moss one-arms it like hes playin wit the neighborhood kids at the park.  If he never sees the field again on a Dolphin D it'll be too soon

We knew
We knew what we were getting when we brought him in.. I think his upside outweighs his downside.
I believe that BP & TS are bringing in guys with raw talent that are fast and who for "what ever reason" are not playing up to their potential.
They really feel that under their management and guidance they can turn them into a better player.
We are being conservative, not paying alot of $$$ and most are signed to 1 yr deals.
I believe that when you play for someone like BP and his reputation you have no choice but to step up your game. His presence has a way of adding confidence and motivation to a borderline player.
I want to believe too! Prove me right..damn it!
Go Phins.

This sounds encouraging!

"Speaking of safeties, it's clear that the addition of safety Chris Crocker, who I'm told has superior ball skills to anyone else on the Dophins roster, means the Trifecta has lowered safety on its laundry list (and it is a laundry list) of the priority positions they will address in this draft. Damn, and I really wanted Notre Dame's Tom Zbikowski on this team."
