Dolphins regular season schedule announced; host Jets in opener

Incase you missed it, the 2008 regular season schedule is set to be released today at 2 pm eastern.  You can watch the release show on NFL Network, beginning at 2 pm.  ESPN, I believe, is also doing something for it.

Update [2008-4-15 14:2:49 by Matty I]: The Dolphins 2008 regular season schedule has been released. Here's how it looks:

Week 1: Jets at Dolphins 1 pm
Week 2: Dolphins at Cardinals 4:15 pm
Week 3: Dolphins at Patriots 1 pm
Week 4: BYE WEEK
Week 5: Chargers at Dolphins 1 pm
Week 6: Dolphins at Texans 1 pm
Week 7: Ravens at Dolphins 1 pm
Week 8: Bills at Dolphins 1 pm
Week 9: Dolphins at Broncos 4:05 pm
Week 10: Seahawks at Dolphins 1 pm
Week 11: Raiders at Dolphins 1 pm
Week 12: Patriots at Dolphins 1 pm
Week 13: Dolphins at Rams 1 pm
Week 14: Dolphins at Bills 4:05 pm (played in Toronto)
Week 15: 49ers at Dolphins 1 pm
Week 16: Dolphins at Chiefs 1 pm
Week 17: Dolphins at Jets 1 pm

Note: Beginning week 11, those times can change due to flex scheduling.

Note: The time for the Dolphins/Bills game in Toronto is in question. MiamiDolphins.com says the game is a 4:05 kickoff, while NFL.com has the game listed as a 1:00 kickoff.

Thoughts

-I love the fact that the Dolphins will open at home against the Jets. What a great way to kick off a new era! This is the first time the Dolphins will open with the Jets since 1995. The Fins won that game 52-14.

-Second season in a row that will feature the Dolphins playing outside of the United States. This time, however, they are not the "home" team, so that's good. And after thinking about it, it might be better to play the Bills in Toronto rather than in Buffalo. I don't think the environment will be as intimidating. And it won't be cold, as the game will be played in the Rogers Center (formerly the Sky Dome). Most likely, the roof will be closed. Good news for the Fins.

-Miami has a tough schedule in those final 8 games of the season. They got 3 in a row at home in mid-November, but two of those teams are playoff teams from a year ago (Pats and Seahawks). Then they close the season with 4 of their last 5 on the road, including cold weather stops in Kansas City and East Rutherford. Ugh!

-Not surprising that the Dolphins do not have any prime-time games in 2008 (unless a game gets flexed to a Sunday night game). It's only the 2nd time since 1970 that the Fins won't play a prime-time game.

There is a story about the Patriots' and Steelers' schedules.

It would seem that the Steelers have possibly the most difficult schedule in the NFL and the stinkin' Patriots have one of the easiest.

It kind of make you sick, you know?

by The Phinisher on Apr 15, 2008 1:21 PM EDT   0 recs

Patriots have one of the easiest.
Again?? I suppose having to play the Jets, Bills and Fins twice every year has a thing or three to do with that.

Denver Sucks!
Denver Sucks! That's one win!

Happy Schedule Day to ALL!

Too young to remember 72...not old enough to forget about ever other year since!

Great work Matty I
Right up to the minute info. Literally.

Thanks!
I was able to schedule my day around the announcement.  So I lucked out.

It looks like only week 17
will be played in cold weather.  St. Louis and Kansas City shouldn't be too bad.  The game versus Buffalo, though in Canada, is played in a dome!

My prediction
6-10, you read it here first.

by JLFins08 on Apr 15, 2008 2:18 PM EDT   0 recs

WoW
not even one prime time game? That sucks....By week 11 they will be begging us to go on Sunday night.

by jvw on Apr 15, 2008 2:20 PM EDT   0 recs

i agree
yeah baby!! begging!!!

A couple things:
4 of 5 last games are on the road.  Great way to prep for post season!

Beck has a great start against the Jets then goes home to Arizona for week two.  Get the momentum going early.

I'm an eternal optimist.  Keep thinking positive!

by Thruthickandt on Apr 15, 2008 2:28 PM EDT   0 recs

WELL
if you watched any foot-ball to years ago we won 6 games in a row alomost the last games, so we stand a good chance with this schedule, i mean if the pats have the easiest schedule we do too right

by dolfan702 on Apr 15, 2008 9:47 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

bookend with the Jets
We get the Jets first and last I like that. and starting in week 11, we get 5 teams that finished last season in the bottom 10.  Raiders, Rams, 49ers, Cheifs, and Jets. and Buffalo was just as bad as some of those.  The only good team we play in the final 7 is NE, and its at home.

Easy Schedule? Hard Schedule?
That's impossible to tell really, at least in April!

by Natalya on Apr 15, 2008 4:12 PM EDT   0 recs

Look at...
..Pittsburgh's schedule and tell me that isn't ridiculously tough.

I'm with you on easy though. No one would have thought the Texans, Redskins, Browns or Vikings would have been as strong as they were last year. Or the Jaguars or Bucs.

Or the Dolphins that bad.

:(

It is a tough schedule
as of the end of last season but obviously, things change quickly as you point out.

Baltimore was a 13-3 team in '06 and would have been expected to be Pittsburgh's toughest rival for the division crown. As it turns out, the only thing tough about the Ravens was watching them play on offense! Conversely the Browns came out of nowhere with Derek Anderson.

We saw the Saints go from playing the the NFC title game to being a .500 club. Lots of changes.

And let's suppose the teams on the steelers schedule do play up to last year's billing - well, then it should be a tough schedule. The steelers won a division and played in the playoffs :)

ESPN SportsNation Poll
SportsNation voted Fins to go 7-9. I originally said 6-10, but I think that game in Toronto is winnable, so I agree with the Nation.

by JLFins08 on Apr 15, 2008 4:18 PM EDT   0 recs

6 or 7 wins seems reasonable
It would show that we've imoproved but I guess wins arent the most important thing this year, we should look at how this team develops.

by Patssuck456 on Apr 18, 2008 10:22 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I think even...
6-10 would be a pretty decent year. Most especially, if young players (Ginn, Beck, Jason Allen, draftees) are key and improve on the team.

by Natalya on Apr 15, 2008 4:22 PM EDT   0 recs

exactly
I'm not looking for a certain record.  What I am looking for is improvement from the young players.  I want to see guys like Beck, Ginn, Satele, LoBo, and whoever the Dolphins draft in less than 2 weeks play well and contribute.  And I want to see Ronnie return to the field and play well.  If the Fins still go 3-13, I'll live with it.

I'd say the most important thing, right now, will be for the Dolphins to figure out if John Beck can indeed be this team's quarterback from '08 and beyond.  Whether he has a great season or a dreadful season, this team really needs to see enough to make a decisive decision on his future.

13-3 Baby!
Trust in Big Bill!
(and Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano)

by DolphinDallas on Apr 15, 2008 4:24 PM EDT   0 recs

I guess....
....you hit the bottle kind of early today, huh?

In all seriousness, if they even went .500, I'd be totally ecstatic.

by Matty I on Apr 15, 2008 4:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

OK, hiccup,
Since no one pointed it out, hiccup, I swill.

You said, hiccup, that that the Jets, hiccup, will open up, hiccup, up agianst the Jets.

Well, oops I fell, hiccup, so how does a team, hiccup, team, play against idsellff.

Hiccup, I don't deserve to be, hiccup, conscience right now..........

I just couldn't resist, Matty1.  All in fun... keep up the great work an information flow!

by Alpha6 on Apr 15, 2008 6:53 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

good find
i guess i, too, should lay off the booze for now.

Oh, and the error has been corrected.

by Matty I on Apr 15, 2008 8:54 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It looks tough...
But then it always does.  The opener is key.  Heading out to Arizona then back east to face the Pats is pretty brutal.  Having a win in the back pocket before flying to the desert will help.  I like the Toronto game.  No outdoor Buf!  Think I might go to that and make it a trend since I went to Wembley last year.

by inisfree on Apr 15, 2008 7:37 PM EDT   0 recs

warm weather sched
other than KC and possibly Denver (week 9 though so might not be too bad), it looks toasty.

by inisfree on Apr 15, 2008 7:39 PM EDT   0 recs

oh missed the closer..
Finishing at the Meadowlands, f@ck!  Oh well.  Who knows what the record will be like then.  Man I'm ready for football.

by inisfree on Apr 15, 2008 7:41 PM EDT   0 recs

Toronto Game most likely to be moved to Primetime
Just saying.  Why wouldn't they put a game that is in Canada on national television?  (or does primetime mean something else)

by Beck4Mercy on Apr 15, 2008 8:58 PM EDT   0 recs

like the schedule
I still love the fact that san fran, san diego, and seattle, and oakland all have to travel all the way across the country to face us. that fact alone makes it a tough road game for them.

the jets will probably be playing for the number 1 pick in week 17 and probably will want to lose the game against us. jk.

by smirish on Apr 16, 2008 6:53 AM EDT   0 recs

Great schedule
As mentioned below, Love that all the west coast teams have to travel across country, that is harder than at St.Louis and at Toronto vs Buffalo, (both domed stadiums in December)

raining on the parade
~~~Miami has a tough schedule in those final 8 games of the season~~~
cough/cough the start of the season isn't exactly good either... i'll give you the 0-9 start possiblity...
Jets - when was the last time the fins won a division game??? Wanny??? ok yeah the won some under saban but its been a long time since they won some series and the jets are good at kick the fins @sses 0-1
new stadium home opener for the cards, will they be pumped up. you betcha 0-2
bills in canada - toronto fans are too nice, it'll be a nice escape .... more winable then in Rich.
pats 0-3
bye (whew)
chargers 0-4
texans - for the love of god, could someone explain to me why the fins CAN'T beat the texans, and now the texans likely have the better team . 0-5
Ravens - Billick gave Cam the game and it cost him his job, anyone think that'll happen again? 0-6
bills - see my jets comments FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE BEAT THE BILLS 2X (that's the only good thing I can say about the wanny era... anyways 0-7
broncos - not sure if they will be good or not, but if they are denver is a hard place to win 0-8
seahawks - oddly enough I think this is the fins most winnable game of the season so far. hawks really aren't great and they have to travel... but for worst case sake they may be the better team 0-9
After this the rest of the schedule looks a heck of a lot easier/better...
raiders - looking at them makes me feel better about being a fins fan.
pats - see the jets/bills/comments
Rams - 50/50 game ... the rams have more talent then last years record but then as BP says you are where you sleep....
49ers - cross country .... fins favored
@KC - my guess is the fins will be favored in this game (kc will be playing their drafted QB)
@jets ????
At least to me the fins have maybe 1 or 2 wins in their first 9 and then they could go 4-3/3-4 after that.... I really like the end of the season.
