THE FALCONS...

Just cut our favorite son Joey "underachieve" Harrington. Why is this news you may ask yourself? Well this leaves only Chris Redman on the roster at the QB position, and saved them 2.5mil against the cap. However this might just point to them actually taking a shot to get Matty Ice with the first pick. I know it has been mentioned on here about trading with Atl. our #1 for their #3 and Hall(or more picks) and I personally think this makes that a little more of a reality giving they only have Redman on the roster now. I realize that Harrington isnt much to lose but just a thought I guess.

If we draft Ryan
we really got them by the umm....b@lls. We should draft him if nothing else but to call thier bluff if they don't trade with us. All thier moves points to them drafting Ryan. If we get him we can do a trade like the Giants and Chargers did a few years ago. If they don't offer anything good, we just keep him. = Win, win.
"It all starts with the Dolphins," an executive with another team said Sunday, "and not a single person here has any idea what they're going to do."

unless of course
they call the bluff and they trade down (say dallas) and take brohm or falco at the end of the first round. Its a very interesting game of chicken since they know miami NEEDS a LT and the good ones will be gone before 32.

by W NY Fins Fan on Mar 5, 2008 6:29 PM EST up reply actions

That could work
If they back out of the deal we still need a QB and if they go for Falco he wont be ready to play for a couple of years. I like the way you think.

by jvw on Mar 5, 2008 11:57 PM EST up reply actions

that would be nice...
but for me personally i want one of the longs. but if we do draft ryan, im not gonna be upset by any means. i do believe that they are really into ryan so maybe the draft trade would work. and some say that is a risky strategy, and yes it is if we dont want ryan. on the other hand if we do want ryan and cant trade after we pick him then like you said WIN, WIN and you cant lose with a WIN, WIN option now can you

i'm all for it..
That would make for an interesting draft day, and at the same time be some funny sh!t.  If the front office has the grapefruits to do that, well i gues it would be one of the greatest draft strategies we have seen in some years.  Good Post!!!!
And with the first pick in the 2008 NFL Draft...The Miami Dolphins select...Glenn Dorsey-LSU

Falcons
I think they have Dj Shockley 2. Not that that's a good thing. How do they not trade with us? If we take Ryan they'll have to trade for him or move up in the draft to get Brohm. Unless they want to take a project to start for them.

yes, yes indeed
that would be excellent. draft ryan, trade with atlanta to get their 3rd pick and we are guaranteed one of the longs.

how about this dream scenario, take ryan. trade with atl for #3 pick, take mcfadden #3 and trade with cowboys for a whole bunch of stuff.

This
is EXACTLY what I've been saying for the past week, but with Harrington getting cut it's got more teeth!  This team is QB desparate right now.  It may still be a dream, but how nice would it be to pick up some extra picks, drop down to three and save some $, but still get one of the Long boys (whoever St Louis doesn't pick).  It would be a proud day fot we Miami Dolphin Fans...

If I had to bet...
based on recent draft history and other factors, I think we end up staying at #1. Sure there was the Eli Manning-Rivers trade in the top 4 a few years ago, but let's remember that Manning emphatically stated he didn't want to play in SD. No such scenario exists today.

And staying at #1, I think we take Ryan OR Chris Long.

The falcons would then pick Dorsey or Jake Long plus a QB in the 2nd round, or they can trade up to the late first round - all much less costly than trading up to our first pick overall.

we should take d hall
we have not made a move for anyone in our secondary yet in free agentsy so lets trade down to the 3rd spot and get d hall and maybe a 2nd or 3rd round pick
ronnie and ricky afc better watch there asses

There is a big, big reason why...
teams are scared of trading for Dante Hall.

Did you see Nate Clements contract last year? What about Asante Samuel's contract recently? You can be sure Dante Hall will at least as much money as Samuel and probably more. He's only got one year left on his current deal.

So do you trade for a player who you could potentially only have for one season? Because if you trade for him and can't sign him to a deal, then he's gone. Well, unless you are ready to give him what will likely be $10M+/season.

Which given Hall's level of play so far in the league, he's nowhere near worth $10M...

by Natalya on Mar 5, 2008 4:25 PM EST up reply actions

dante hall isnt worth 10 mill
i was talking about deangelo hall and it would be a trade with 2 yrs left on hus current contract and if he sucks dont resign him and we would not have to pay a arm and a leg for either longs

by phinsforever on Mar 5, 2008 5:19 PM EST reply actions

I was talking about
Deangelo Hall rather than Dante. So that's a typo on my part.

Everything else though still stands.

He's only got 1 year left on his deal. He is going to ask for $10M+ because the fans keep voting him into the pro bowl even though he's been an underachiever so far in his career.

So are you going to give him $10M after next season? Because if you don't, then he's gone and we'll have made a trade to basically rent Hall for a year.

by Natalya on Mar 5, 2008 5:32 PM EST up reply actions

BUT....
Thats not NECESSARILY a bad thing.  We could franchise the guy for at least a year if we wanted to, and the following year if we wanted to let him leave.  we would get a 3rd round compensatory pick for the guy anyways (provided we werent signing a bunch of free agents ourselves - which we wont be in 2 years)

sorry one year

I don't want to see us draft Chris Long
with the #1 pick.  I am thinking that both DE and OT are positions that are deep enough to grab a first day guy later on.  But if we had to choose one of the two, LT is the one we need most.  The D will shape up pretty good this year, with the guys we've got, and under Parcells.  Especially if we DO end up keeping JT.  All we really need to improve is the secondary, and that might just be 1 good corner away from being acceptable.

However, we have picked up only one O-lineman worth anything, and need another OG and a T (R or L at this point).  And Tackle is the hardest spot to fill in FA.  The only thing that bugs me is that there are quite a few guys that will probably end up being starting Tackles in the draft.

I trying to
figure out a senario where we can get both longs...Let me be Im just dreaming.

Who else needs a QB?
I wonder if anybody is willing to Jump Atlanta to try to snag Ryan?  Maybe Baltimore?  I think they're at 9?  So many possibilities, I hope Billy can work some magic!

by Gliddog on Mar 6, 2008 8:50 AM EST reply actions

hmmm
well.... i've heard KC, and i've heard St. louis might take ryan as bulger's replacement, but that's unlikely with the current admin on the hot seat... but pretty much everyone except for 6-8 teams needs a QB... heck I heard on espn last night oakland is worried about qb since russel may be 300+ right now.
