The Phinsider Community Mock Draft: Pick #11 - Buffalo Bills

With the 10th pick in The Phinsider Community Mock Draft, the New Orleans Saints select Keith Rivers, LB, USC.

This was a tight race, with Rivers picking up 41% of the vote and Leodis McKelvin getting 32% of the vote.  Jeff Otah was third, with 10%.

So here's how the last 5 picks have gone:

  1. New York Jets - Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio St. (56%)
  2. New England Patriots - Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tenn St. (32%)
  3. Baltimore Ravens - Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU (41%)
  4. Cincinnati Bengals - Sedrick Ellis, DT, LSU (80%)
  5. New Orleans Saints - Keith Rivers, LB, USC (41%)

Up next, with pick #11, are the Buffalo Bills.  For the best Bills insight and analysis, head over to Buffalo Rumblings.  Below are their draft needs, courtesy of NFL Draft Countdown:

1. Wide Receiver: This is a team in desperate need of some size at wideout. Lee Evans, Roscoe Parrish and Josh Reed are all under six feet tall so it's probably time to add a big guy to complement them.
2. Tight End: Robert Royal is not going to strike fear in the hearts of many defenses, especially in the passing game, and a great way to improve a young offense that lacks explosiveness is to add a top TE
3. Cornerback: The Bills not only lost a shutdown corner when Nate Clements bolted as a free agent a year ago but their overall depth behind Terrence McGee also took a major hit so they could use help.

Bills
As much as I think the Bills will go with Malcom Kelly or Limas Sweed, with these corners on the board, how do you pass? I took Leodis McKelvin.

Interesting...
I actually chose Malcolm Kelly.

While the Bills could definitely use a replacement for Nate Clements, I think their biggest problem is in their offense.

They had trouble scoring points at times and let's face it, Lynch is their best offensive player right now. With a QB in place in Edwards, they need someone on the outside to give burner, Lee Evans, some room to run. Right now, teams can easily double Evans and take away the deep pass, making this bills offense a very conservative unit.

Kelly is a big guy at well over 6' & 220 lbs and is likely to run in the 4.4 to 4.5 range. A nice compliment to a speed guy like Evans (sounds a little like Miami here with Ginn, doesn't it?)

No one knows about Kelly
Apparently he's been avoiding workouts, and it may be hurting his stock. Still, if he's the real deal once he finally worksout I think the Bills have to take him.

kelly
i agree kelly is a logical fit for the bills, but i think their pick is too high for kelly, or any WR,,, so went with mckelvin

around here it's a given
the bills usually don't play fast ones...

they like kelly and i'd be pretty surprised if
they don't take him.

Kelly
It's gotta be Malcolm Kelly he opens up their offense in so many ways, taking players outta the box for Lynch, allowing Evans to work in single coverage, and giving Edwards a big strong target to work with in tight spaces.

FILE - In this Sept. 4, 2009 file photo, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Shaun Hill aims a pass downfield against the San Diego Chargers during the first quarter of an NFL preseason football game in San Diego. Hill earned the starting job for the 2009 season by beating out Alex Smith, who missed last season after re-injuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder. Head coach Mike Singletary largely chose Hill based on his play down the stretch last year: he went 5-3 over the final eight games and he also owns a 5-0 record at home in Candlestick Park.
